  1. Good advice. That's mostly what I was doing. Even the teleport pipe was directly connected to the quarry and still managed to produce a large spill. I had a large spread of a home with teleport pipes used quite a bit. I know they can do a one to many but can they do a many to one? I was thinking that if I accidentally had a many to one, then could that have produced the spill? I've re-jigged it, moved to a new tree home and the teleport pipes are a definite one to one now. So far, so good, even though the new home is further away from the quarry than the first.
  2. Thanks for all this. Apologies for the delay in responding; I was in hospital. I'm running 64x64 quarries at about nearly 1km from where the new home is. The odd thing is that the quarry is a little over 300 metres from the old home and everything worked fine. But going this extra distance seems to have mucked things up. (the character always being in the game.) I honestly didn't think that the game loaded that many chunks around the player. Ah well. I'm actually using all the waste to drive an energy condenser, so even the zombie flesh has a purpose! I'm going to back up the server and then run some tests with the advice given here, and see what works best for me. Many thanks for all the help.
  3. I thought "transposer" because it handles stacks of objects at a time in pneumatics. How fast would obsidian pipes connect/shift objects?
  4. The problem I'm facing is that when I'm away from the area, the pipes leak stuff all over the place, resulting in lag that kills the server so bad that I can't get to the area to clear it up myself. My thinking is, if I have the transport pipe directly attached to the quarry, then the leaked stuff will be all in one block area ... ideal to be picked up by a transposer and sorted out. In other words, the transposer won't be doing any day-to-day sorting ... it'll be clearing up the mess after a large item leak.
  5. Hi Folks, Because I don't get that much time to actually do things, I just leave things running while away, I've got a problem with quarries that overrun and drop items in the world which chokes the server. I need peoples input on the following please... 1) Does anyone know whether it will be days, weeks, months or never, that a solution to the chunk loader function issue will be solved by the replacement railway block? 2) If I put a transposer directly beneath the transport pipe that is attached to the quarry, power it with a 1 second timer and connect it to an alchemy chest, with a filter in the middle which feeds cobblestone and earth to a lava pit ... then when the chunk loaded, would that start processing things and sort stuff out ... or would that be a colossal waste of time? 3) ... your idea here.
  6. Ah. Barbed by birth.
  7. I did, which is how I landed on her blog. And wow, you're in an insulting mood today. Step out of the wrong side of bed on to a cactus? And I'm not asking her to talk with me, just read a suggestion. I'm not actually asking her to co-write a minecraft war and peace on my behalf.
  8. I can't find a forum to contact her. Anyone got any contact details or redpower forum location please?
  9. Ah. Oh well, I bunged a little bit to a number of devs yesterday and I think redpower was one of them, so I'll check it out when I get home. Thanks for the heads up.
  10. I've registered with the IC2 forum but I've got to wait until I get home to confirm the account. I actually dropped them a small donation the other day so maybe they'll entertain my suggestion for making those trees respond to a deliberate growth agent, such as bone meal. I know it's a long shot but it's all I've got!
  11. Yes, I'm trying the Rubber Wood Trees as I'm trying to put a few together to make a nice tree house with a reasonable bit of floor space. That information definately helps; many thanks. If you're really bored, you can see the old one here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4NcKtnVCW0 - when I came across a load of trees that has been generated in a circle pattern and decided to make a home out of it to see where the design went. I've actually got passages that go down the centre of the trunks to machine installations in the floor, protected by Advanced Stone in case any creepers come a-calling around the base. I've even got another secret one (not in the video) where the automatic floor steps are hidden in the branches below. I'm really coming to love building tree houses, but having to wait such a considerable amount of time (human days) is seriously holding up the build. My character was waiting on the island for 11 hours (which was what caused the chunk loader spill that toasted the server yesterday because I was so far away from the quarry; I ended up having to revert to backup because I lost so much deep material) and only three trees grew in that time, and too far apart to be of any use. If I could find the rules to these trees growth, then I could plant them better, but information on their behaviour is very hard to find.
  12. Hi Folks, I'm trying to speed up rubber tree growth as I know they don't respond to bone meal. There is little around in the way of information about their behavior. The question is this ... is there an evaluation taken out at the start of every day, or is it just a continuous thing. Basically, if I sleep through the nights will I help anything or have no effect? As my character will be in-game, what kind of effect will I have on the chunks; do I affect the same chunks as a chunk loader, for example, the + pattern, or do I affect everything I see on the mini map? TIA for any info.
  13. After reading up some posts and doing some messing around with F9 ... ...if I read this correct, the pattern is a + sign, but it loads all the chunks in the entire column from the top of the sky to the bedrock. Is that right?
  14. OK - got it. When I asked the server for help, it didn't have a remove command, so I kept trying with the client until I got it done. over 16,000 items were hanging around. Not sure how; do teleport pipes overload? Like you say, these chunks loaders don't do what I thought they did. I have had trouble learning about them but while at work I came across this post - http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php?topic=10602.0 - which was very informative. My character is normally around the area but this time was a good way away, standing in an area to prompt giant rubber trees to grow; that's probably when the quarry went ape. A lot of my playing is done by setting things up and then going to work, or going to sleep, and letting them do their thing. I set up quarries further away from base because they make the immediate area look awful. Looks like my Tekkit playing is going to be heavily curtailed until these rail blocks come in. Many thanks to all for the help in sorting this out.
  15. Well that's the problem. I don't actually know what's causing the trouble. How do I "MCEdit" the items away? Do you have a link to a tutorial please, because I haven't used it before. Not only that, but I'm not certain what I'm editing; presumably if entering the remove command at the server console didn't have an effect then I presume I'm trying to get at whatever is in teleport pipe number 1?
  16. remove items -1 ..didn't work at the server console. I'm still having the same trouble. The client doesn't stay in long enough/responds enough, to even give me the prompt. Something is seriously stuffed here, but nothing is appearing in the logs. It is seriously puzzling. Something is going on in a chunk in that area which I can't pin down.
  17. I'm going to have to do something. I can't keep things stable. I restart the server, get logged in and I don't get the chance to move. After a minute the client times out and drops, and then the server becomes unresponsive. Nothing in the server.log. Eventually manage to get the server restarted and the situation just repeats.
  18. Many thanks. I'll give that a try when I get home tonight. The server has broken down becuase the processor went from 30% to choking, but hopefully your suggestion for the client setting will enable me to get closer, quicker. BTW - is there any way of telling when a quarry is spent, short of just looking at nothing coming out? I ask because I usually flood the surface with water so that any lava comes straight out as obsidian without causing trouble, so I can never see how deep the drill has gone.

If there has been a later server downloaded, I haven't got it. The situation is ... Two quarries in close proximity. Each quarry is powered by two electrical engines, each engine is powered by two bat boxes and two low voltage solar arrays, so these things can keep going all day and all night. The game is crawling when I enter those chunks, but with the amount of time I've been crawling towards the quarries, I would have expected any stray blocks to have de-spawned by now. My mind is working towards two outcomes... 1) The teleport pipe has become jammed. 2) The quarry is spent and, still being powered by two engines, is causing a problem. ..but that is just guess work as I'm still 70m away from it. Is there any advice as to how to rescue this situation without losing the world please?
  20. Hi Folks, Decided to move to Xubuntu Precise, 64 bit. Killed the previous .techniclauncher. Got hold of 64 bit Java 7. Program runs but gives... 21. Cool. I'll wait for the update and test it again. It also seems that the filters aren't filtering markers either.
  22. hi Folks, I'm setting up a filtering system so I can come back to base, throw everything in the ingestion chest and it sorts it out. All is going well except for tools. I have alchemy chests set up, with talismans of repair. However, even though there are healthy tools in the filter, non-healthy ones pass straight by it. Any advice please?
  23. Hi Folks, We're having bad weather and I've had a number of occasions where I've lost an inventory full of mining progress when the power gets cut without warning (they're probably continuing to work on the lines) Is there an easy way of forcing character saves at regular intervals without having to disconnect/reconnect every 5 or 10 mins please?
  24. In fact, I think I'm going to need to make a suggestion ... that a colour can be assigned to the exhaust; so that if a chest/receiver is full, it just sends it on the line just like it does the exception tag in mode 5. That'll save a chunk of extra pipework. Anyone happen to know where I make this suggestion please?
  25. Hi Folks, Apologies for such a noob question, but there seem to be three copper and two iron ores. As my sorting behemoth is still under construction and testing, I can't be sure, but I believe I've quarried at least two different types of copper ore from the ground so far. (I'm running the 2.1.1 server) They all seem to macerate down tot he same dust, though; it's just extra slots used in the sorting machines, and extra maceration units to ensure the different ores don't collide in the same machines. There are three different copper and two different iron ores showing in the lists. Probably the result of mods, but I'm not sure why, or more importantly what the impact is on sorting logic. Also, this is probably going to be another dumb question but I'm going slightly nuts ... does it make any difference which side of an electric furnace, that you take the product out of? I ask because I seem to have ingots flying around the system. Not many, just the odd one, but it is causing me to scratch my head again! Many thanks for any enlightenment, Michelle. MOD EDIT: Don't do this
