Many thanks folks, that is a superb help.

Do you have any links to good instructions please? I simplified the situation in my explanation. If i paint the unpainted, then that removes any overflow pipe, because that pipe will then be painted. I'll have to add another pipe for overflow, which will need to be at least three, possibly four long, etc., etc., and I'm in a confined space. If I had a good understanding of the modes, perhaps I can pick one more suited to what I'm trying to do.

Hi Folks, I'm trying to find a half-decent tutorial that explains the sorting machine modes properly, and I can't. What I'm trying to achieve is mode 4, but I'm having problems. The tubes out of the sorting machine in order are ... red, green, yellow, unpainted. However, when something is not assigned a colour, instead of going down the unpainted tube, it goes down the red tube. The only way I can think of around this, is to have a colour assigned for unmatched items, and then add a separate pipe for overflow if any of the chests are full. Can anyone help me out please? Many thanks, Michelle.

hi Folks, I've got a server with a number of chunk loading blocks. For the most part, it works but I have a hunch about a lag issue that is happening after people have been off the server for a while. The automatic sorting system dumps unwanted blocks in lava. On logging in on experiencing this lag, I happened to be in the area. I heard a lot of blocks being killed in lava and after a while, the lag cleared up. The question is this ... when a chunk has a chunk loading block in it ... and there is no one on the server ... does the server still process blocks which hit lava, or are they left "spawned" until the system clears them up? I went back to 2.0 after this lag situation happened in 2.1.1 - but I might have to remove all the chunk loading blocks and let the system stop completely when there is no one on the game. Many thanks for any opinions on this.

Wow! You know ... I knew that iron pipes were directional, but all this time I've just been using wood pipes thinking that they knew which was the output on a device. Now you mention it, I can see that the wood pipes are directional. Superb! Many thanks for this.

Hi Folks, As usual, I'm pushing the boundaries (it's where I get my kicks) and am having a problem. This is in single player creative mode. This video shows the issue - http://youtu.be/GMBJCulZN1Y - but the long story short is that the mascerated items aren't being shunted from most of the rotary macerators to the furnaces beneath; only the one at the end is working. Since the video was shot, I've tried a number of things including raising the redstone so that it wasn't adjacent to the wood pipes, and also positioning the redstone engines on the side, so there is nothing between the different macerator/furnace set ups ... and still no joy. Anyone have any ideas please? Michelle. Mod Note: Don't sign your posts.

Wow, I didn't know about that feature. Many thanks.

Cool! Many thanks. I'll use that wiki from now on.

Hi Folks, I'm running off various tutorials and I'm getting things wrong. If someone could help me get some things straightened out, I'd be grateful. Server is 2.1.1 1) recipes for the MFE transmitter... http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/IndustrialCraft/Energy#MFE_Transmitter ... and the battery pack ... http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/IndustrialCraft/Components#Battery_Pack ... don't want to work. I can make the batteries individually, charge them, discharge them, but I can't make the packs. 2) I'm making the packs because it seems that direct solar connection isn't working. I've made about four solar collectors and have cabled them down to a range of devices, but I've obviously missed something because, if I use something in an electric furnace, once the charge is spent, it doesn't seem to pick up any charge from the collectors. Something tells me that a direct connection isn't working, so I must need some form of battery or collector between the solar collectors and the devices to be powered ... as powering from a standard generator, using coal, seems to work. I'm using the standard copper cable, which seems to automatically attach to all devices it is placed next to; so I'm assuming that I'm using the right cable for the job. If anyone can help me out on this, that would be superb. Many thanks, Michelle.

All things being unequal, here's the video - http://youtu.be/WJYewPj2VVs Incidentally, there are a number of basic tutorial/experience videos on my channel that might be of help to someone, particularly number 3 which is an hour long video showing how to get started in the game. Might be useful for newcomers asking the usual questions. There are some basic starters on wafers and bluetricity going up now; just designed to get people a foothold on the technology really. I've read some posts about threads where people can ask for tutorials, but not really any where people can make their tutorials available. Having said that, mine are only very basic and probably not worth listing anywhere. I'll likely do a summation of the basic starting technology and the sorting engine once YouTube removes the 15 minute limit on my account ... again!

Yes, definately leave more room for pipe. Covers don't seem to be working as segregation between pipe and chests.
-
Thanks ! I've got to the root of the other problem as well. Video filmed and will be uploaded and link supplied shortly. Basically, any "uncoloured" ejection pipe needs to be three long, otherwise blocks of the preceding pipe's colour, will miss their alloted pipe and go straight out the eject pipe.

Oh, in starting to do things, stuff like sand is used in electronics. I have a large mine and just need unattended operation while I keep the oil topped up. I'll go for the unpainted pipe solution I think .... however I'm fearful of the original issue that I started with, misfiling items! Also, cobblestone is used for bricks and also wafers. Do you think a "jam colour" could be a useful suggestion?
-
It seems that if the chest on the end of the pipe is full, then that also jams the sorting machine. Anyone know how to get around this please?
-
I think I've learned a lesson here - switch the sorter off while programming it, or it risks jamming. - which is perfectly reasonable. However, the sorter has a history of working for a while and then jamming, so I'll keep the video around. There is still the issue of the pipe sorting, so what I'll do is this... *) Keep running the system for a while and, if it jams again while I'm not adjusting it, then I'll post the video. *) If it keeps running fine, I'll re-create the sorting pipe issue in creative and make a new video on that. I should have more of a clue in about 24 hours testing.

OK - I'll do a video - it does look like it is an issue with the colour at the end of the pipe. It'll be tomorrow when I do it, as it is gone 1am here now! I'm having another problem with it, though. Now, the sorter isn't picking up items from the chest. Just stopped. Can't think of why it stopped working. Will take another look when I'm fresh and record a video tomorrow ... or later today!
-
In fact - in addition to this, in case it makes a difference, there is no colour on the pipe that leads to the chest ... the chest is simply tagged on to the end of the pneumatic tube.

Hi Folks, I've got an odd problem. I'm running 2.1.1 server. The sorting machine is set to mode 5, to assign a colour to an item that is not matched. In fact, that is working. Whether an item is assigned its colour by the not-matched or the matched, the same thing happens ... The pipe is about 20 long. There are various spurs down from it. It terminates in a chest which is at the back of another sorter. The colour sequence of the drop pipes is ... green, red, orange, blue, yellow, cyan, lime ... then the chest. If the item comes out marked cyan, then it goes down the cyan pipe, no problem. If the item comes out lime, then it misses the lime drop pipe and continues on to the chest. I've already tried changing the colours around and that makes no difference. I've also tried increasing the distance from the lime drop pipe and the receiving chest, and that makes no difference either. Does anyone have any advice please? Many thanks, Michelle.

Ah! Thanks very much. I'll update the notes I'm working from. Very kind of you to help.

Hi Folks, I'm running a server I downloaded from here a few days ago, and the tekkit launcher 0.5.4.4 set to dev builds. The server is loading mod_RedPowerLighting 2.0pr4d - the client just says "Minecraft 1.1" The problem is that following the recipe for a battery pack on a project table, or a crafting table, it doesn't register. Recipe used... Battery - Planks - Battery Battery - Tin - Battery Tin - Blue Ingot - Tin ... but nothing shows in the output. I'm relatively new to this, so am unsure where any version numbers are that people might need, are located. The client joins with... joined with mod_ModLoaderMp 1.1v4, mod_MinecraftForge 1.3.3.12, mod_NotEnoughItems 1.1.1, mod_CCTurtle 1.3, mod_ComputerCraft 1.3, mod_DoorFix 1.1.0, mod_EE EE2 v1.0.0, mod_InvTweaks 1.38 (1.1), mod_MAtmos_forModLoader r10 for 1.1.x, mod_NetherOres 1.1.0R1.1.2, mod_Railcraft 3.4.2, mod_ReiMinimap v3.0_01 [1.1], mod_RedPowerArray 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerCore 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerLighting 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerLogic 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerMachine 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerWiring 2.0pr4d, mod_RedPowerWorld 2.0pr4d, mod_BuildCraftCore 2.2.12, mod_BuildCraftBuilders 2.2.12, mod_BuildCraftEnergy 2.2.12, mod_BuildCraftFactory 2.2.12, mod_BuildCraftTransport 2.2.12, mod_IC2 v1.71, mod_PowerConverters 1.1.0R1.3.1, mod_IC2AdvancedMachines v3.6, mod_Clevercraft 1.6.2, mod_ItemDescriptions 1.3, mod_EnderChest 1.0.1, mod_zAdditionalPipes Rev32.3, mod_Forestry 1.2.6.5, mod_IC2_ChargingBench 1.71-1, mod_CompactSolars 1.2 Thanks in advance for any help.
