(Hint: Mine are the ones that say Cheap Shot) I'm an amature artist and I do all the graphical work for the technic pack. My main job right now is drawing comics for the yogscast. It's a huge learning experience for me, and I'm not really a writer so it's difficult to come up with comics. I'd be happy to answer any questions about art or comics or yogscast or whatever. hindos Posted February 22, 2012 Share Posted February 22, 2012 I had lots of fun yesterday going through all your comics (yeah kinda sad that I can go through all your work in one day while it must have taken you months to complete them-but that's normal). I find them all very humuruos which is epic, I particularily enjoyed the skyrim dragon speaking in an ancient language one. Your production rate is also astonishly fast, you make something like 10 comics in one month! I've tried making computer art but it's a dreadfully slow and detailed process so good job on overcoming that drawback . I think that you could be well on your way to becoming a professional artist, I'd love to see your drawings on my cereal packet in the morning . My only 'criticism' is that it has too much 'boobies' and such... Do you accept suggestions for comics? Cheap Shot Posted February 22, 2012 Author Share Posted February 22, 2012 Thank you. Sorry my humor is a little crude sometimes. I occasionally forget the yogs target audience is on the young side. But yeah, putting out two comics a week is very time consuming. If I could afford to I'd move to just one a week, but I don't have a lot of other paying work going on right now. I usually spend 10+ hours drawing each comic and I can already feel it burning me out. I would gladly accept joke ideas for my comics as long as no one is upset if I don't use them. Not much has been going on in the minecraft world lately that I haven't already made fun of so I find myself struggling come up with ideas. I was reading notches blog and twitter looking for material, but he literally hasn't done anything lately. I went in saying "What minecraft stuff has be talked about recently?" and I find a post about him talking about the number of holes in his clothes and some dumb game dev party he wants to host. ... hindos Posted February 22, 2012 Share Posted February 22, 2012 I suggest besides making jokes about news and updates you make some jokes about the little funny things you have in a normal minecraft play, or jokes targeted at specific game elements(i.e. creeper=fail pig). I know alot of fun experiences I had on a server and singleplayer(god i hate when a creeper falls down from above...) Also notch develops scrolls now so check jeb's log instead , that might be something to do with it. Also not all your comics were targeted at minecraft so which exact subjects do you want covered(im an infobug). I'll think about some jokes... still thinking.... wow this is hard... i got one! I once asked one of my server comrades to help me build a luuuuv room. Which basicly was a 2 by 3 bed (total of 6 beds) on a herat shaped surface with hearts all along the walls. Then i had squidwads as hookers and trapped people in the room with iron doors . I had loads of fun tricking people to teleport to me and saying 'come up in the bed' . This may be a bit unsutable... Ah another one I once trapped several of my comrades in glass and jailed em(can't destroy stuff) then charged people to visit them and 'examine' the various 'animals'. I like how you don't necessarily always do so, and tend to incorporate what they've done in recent videos (at least, I think you released your Skyrim comics when they did some Skyrim videos). A good reason to keep people coming back to the comics is to have a certain theme (whether its a joke style, character style, theme, etc) which is going to be difficult if it isn't necessarily coupled with "Simon and Lewis". Some ideas (featuring Simon & Lewis): [li]Keep the "Hey Simon/Hey Lewis" at the computer theme going strong[/li] [li]"What Yogbox would look like as a Broadway production" (spiders crawling on the audience, anyone?)[/li] [li]Play off the Dethklok "Gear" helper theme, make up stories about what happens to the people "recording" the MC videos they make/made. (To clarify - there's a lot of death in Dethklok's audience/stagehands in morbid but dark-humor ways)[/li] [li]What would happen if the Yogscast's house were to be a museum and fans came to visit.[/li] [li]Simon and Lewis trying to be famous in the real world. (Honeydew whips out some flint and steel in a grocery aisle to remind them, Lewis does his half snort laugh for half a year.)[/li] Some ideas (featuring not Simon & Lewis) [li]What the "support characters" of the Israphel videos do during "off-season" (Israphel trying to do community service, Fumblemore getting sued for copyright infringement from JK Rowling)[/li] [li]"Average Steve" and his adventures (highlight the supidly happenings/adventures of the average MC user)[/li] [li]"DIY Channel", where people try to show you how to build/hunt/craft/milk cows/cook (think Martha Stewart) but using minecraft recipes instead (stack a 2m wide by 3m tall by 1m thick of lumber and call it a door, anyone?)[/li] [li]"Real world meets minecraft limits", where catastrophes happen like planes de-materialize after 128m high (ceiling limit in MC), thirsty people digging for water underneath them destroy the "block" underneath them and fall into a lava pit, or just hit bedrock, etc.[/li] More random ideas. [li]What would have happened in the minecraft (or real, for that matter) world if <insert famous/historical figure> played minecraft?[/li] [li]I can't think of any more [/li] Please steal these ideas, no credit wanted. They probably just think you're weird. Unless you were looking at the logo AND porn. Then they're probably deciding what kind of camps or programs they can send you to. You'd have to convince kakermix not to use that logo anymore and it's his favorite one. The yogscast like it too. Also, there's some new comics up. Kid and Dad are having a dramatic experience. I agree I find myself strangely attached to the two, the last two comics with them in it were hilarious . But I still don't get the bread joke, please explain... Perhaps you can look to minecraft boats for ideas and inspirations, and build on how it looks like a grown man splashing around in an infants bathtub? All in all, I've yet to see a comic of yours I didn't at least chuckle at. You seem to have a good balance of dirty jokes and clean ones. And while some may be against the crude humor part, I rather like it. Its rare to find a comic that can use sexual content without it leading to a Japanese schoolgirl making friends with a Tentacruel. Keep up the good work! It's been my hope to direct the main focus of my comic into a storyline about them. If you want to know more it means I'm doing something right.
