Bagon Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I think a nice mod for tekkit would be mystcraft, it would help servers for keeping the overworld nice and clean looking, and it would help anti-griefing. Why? For someone to grief you theyd have to hunt down the descriptive book then find your house. Quote
Bagon Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 Ive seen it on a bukkit server wit hall the same mods but advanced machines and ironchests(may have had iron chests) Quote
Jay? Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Are you sure you saw it on a bukkit server and not just a regular server? google turns up a bunch of requests for a bukkit port, but no bukkit port. Quote
Bagon Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Hmm thought it was, maybe not. Ill look into it EDIT: Doesnt look like there is, feel free to lock this thread now Quote
Hadokuen! Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 i know a vid with mystcraft on a sever and with some other mods (like IC2 EE2 Bc Etc.) but mayby not with bukkit Quote
DoctorFedora Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Apparently a third party (as in not the original developer) made a bukkit port for MystCraft. It seems to work, but I am extremely interested in getting it to work in Tekkit. So far the only problem I've encountered is descriptive books freeze the game in singleplayer. Quote
Dodge34 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I would never ever want that on my server, except if you have a 32gb ram dedicated server, it will eat all your memory for each world created in mystcraft, would be a total nightmare for lag. Quote
DoctorFedora Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Not sure about 32gbram, but the server I run is fully dedicated to running Tekkit. I've heard that the lag problem. Might be stopped if I disable decay, and that would be a small price to pay for the worlds I've seen in Mystcraft. I'd love to get it to work on my server. Quote
Dodge34 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Problem with Mystcraft is that its made for SSP, like buildcraft was made, on your own computer in SSP mode once a mystcraft age is loaded the other age you were or the main overworld is unloaded since its not needed cause you're not there anymore, but on a server with more players, the overworld will be kept loaded in memory along with each mystcraft age with a player in them. Unless the author of Mystcraft find a way to avoid taking memory for each world (or age) loaded, this will cause lag on lets say 90% of current tekkit servers most of them don't have more than 8gb of ram. DoctorFedora Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Shame. I was under the impression that there was an option in the con figs somewhere that disabled spawn chunk loading for worlds without players. I may be wrong, though. Quote
Dodge34 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I'M not exactly sure how it could unload a spawn area because if someone want to connect and the spawn isn't loaded, they will fall through void here, but maybe I'm wrong with that, I'm not a pro about bukkit servers (tekkit is bukkit with the most awesome mods of all) I know a lot and try to share my knowledge but I learn a lot also from reading the forums here. Quote
DoctorFedora Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Well, from my understanding, if a player tries to spawn in an unloaded chunk (like reconnecting after a while or teleporting), instead of dropping the player to their death, the server attempts to "hold" them at the same position they were at when they joined until the chunk loads. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work, and sometimes they plummet into the void anyway. Quote
Phuriousgeorge Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 True enough, but what if there are 10 players online and all 10 are in different worlds? Even without the individual spawns loaded, you'd still have however many worlds loaded because the players would be in them. Quote

Even without the individual spawns loaded, you'd still have however many worlds loaded because the players would be in them. Exactly, that would be equivalent of loading 10 world for 10 people, there's not any server that would be able to keep up under 1000$ by month for this. Great mod, great porting idea, but unless Mojang find a way to decrease the memory used by each chunk loaded, this would never work on a SMP server sadly. Quote
Phuriousgeorge Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Yup. I love the idea, but hate that I'd be forced to delete the mod if it was included. DAMNIT MOJANG - Rewrite and optimize your game :@ Quote
