Lothos Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I really want to give this an honest go this time and do it right without the need to manually bucket the lava. First off, to pump lava you need the BC pump right? The one upgraded from the mining well. Second, is it easier logistically to pump the lava up waterproof pipes to a surface generator or really waste alot on expensive cables to run the power up? We're talking 80 blocks give or take from my desired location. if I pump the lava up, do I store it in tanks like oil? Quote
DanielJin Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 1. Yes 2. Pump the lava straight up would be a lot easier. 3. Yes, you store them in tanks. I think you can just pump lava straight into the generator, too. Quote
milcondoin Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 There are two advantages to make the transition lava->EU as late as possible: 1) pipes are cheaper than cables and don't have inherent losses 2) you can use teleport waterproof pipes Quote
Lothos Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 ok, so with this fresh start I did 4 watermills initially and now geothermal. with 12 tanks and a 100 block long pipe now full and my batbox full this is nice I'm going to assume at some point I'll need to move the pump though even though the lake I chose was massive. BuccaneerRex Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Depending on your feelings about EE, a condenser targeting lava cells is a cheap and easy way to get free EU from geothermals. Quote
Lothos Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 right now I have 2 geo units hooked to 2 stacks of 24 tanks both full, batbox full, pipe from layer 12 to 66 full, and much more lava below still. whats interesting is when it first started it sucked the lava lake down 1 block fully and since then has not "drained" it lower at all. Infinite source found? Quote
Industrial Miner Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 You can also pump the lava from the surface directly into a geothermal generator or some tanks. You don't need to spend lots of pipes and/or wires. And if it is a big lavalakw, it starts to pump the source blocks at somewhere else than the point where the pump hits the lava. Try pumping lava in the nether and you'll see how the BC pump works. Quote
Lothos Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 I'm planning to since my gate generated right on the nether lavalake shore. It's an interesting map so far that it gave me. I rode around in a boat around my tiny landmass and didn't see any other land for 300+ blocks in all directions. My island has maybe 2k square blocks of area at best. Only downside was no volcano :/ Quote
Industrial Miner Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 The best seed would be for me where I have a 20x20 chunk Plains island in the sea with small 2x2 chunk islands with every other biome. Now only if a RP volcano wouldn't spawn on these islands, but in the sea aswell. Quote
Lothos Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 i had thought plains myself, but am leaning more towards desert isles. I was also told rumor held it desert biomes had higher mineral spawn numbers. Quote
