Stevolution Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Is there any way to boost the light output/spread from a lamp block? I have a ceiling full of them, and the light barely reaches the floor. Torches are still far better, but not very tech!

If you have a tall room, you pretty much have to go with sunlight for even lighting.
Dodge34 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 This is a limitation of the way Minecraft is coded, believe me there I've searched for a long time about that, there's absolutely no way and no mods would even be able to change the light level emitted by any kind of blocks and the distance covered by a light is always the same (I think its 4-5 blocks max so if your ceiling is higher than that, there's nothing you can do about it except place lights in your floor or get worldguard and prevent mob from spawning in your place)
Neowulf Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I haven't tested, do RP2 panels/covers block light? If not, you could put the lamps in your floor carpet your place with them.
Dodge34 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 You can use hollow covers of anykind you like and the RP2 lamps will emit light from the hole in it, make a pretty nice type of light too. Be aware that since lamps are taking the full block space the cover will stick out of your floor if you don't put the lamp 1 block below your floor first, or you can still cover the whole floor with covers but you won't be able to place chests or anything on your floor correctly, they will be like floating in the air somehow.
Neowulf Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Or you break the cover where you want to place stuff.
Dodge34 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Or you break the cover where you want to place stuff. Yup, never tough about that, good idea, wonder why it didn't cross my mind since the stuff we usually place on the floor will take the space anyway...
Stevolution Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Oh well... I will take down those 64 lamp then! Look good, but don't do anything. I also noticed that lamps are pretty laggy (or is that my pants laptop) If I connect a timer to a lamp block, 50% of the time, it won't light
Dodge34 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 why would you want a timer on lamps exactly, pretty useless, only perhaps need a light switch but beware of the mob spawning inside if you turn off the lights and come back later, a creeper is waiting for you unless you use some kind of protection plugins that allow you to prevent mob spawning in your base (I really enjoy worldguard, quick and easy to install and use and it works really well for that purpose, even if we are a friends/family private server.
Watchful11 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Not that its in tekkit, but there is actually a bukkit ported mod for this. http://www.cosc.canterbury.ac.nz/greg.ewing/minecraft/mods/GregsLighting/ Maybe the'll add it in the future.
Stevolution Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Well I don't just have random flashing lights... I built some very tall wind turbine towers, and in the name of 'adding stuff for the sake of it', I had a red lamp on the top with a timer to flash it every few seconds. Except, it didn't flash with any regularity at all. Is that down to my laptops crap graphics capability? Same goes for frames.... they disappear when operated and jump across the screen - only appearing for a moment until they reach their end position.
