Lothos Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 So, i have a new bug I want to fiddle with on another map and the closest I had come to doing it had been the zeppelin mod. Essentially I want to be able to operate from a mobile airship base. This is technic as well, just a heads up. Now, I've gotten some idea of the hiccups with technic and the zeppelin mod itself. Something about pipes not working and things. I'm wondering if maybe quarrying in mystcraft ages and transporting the loot back would work from the airship. Like if the mod is friendly with blocks from mystcraft and thaumcraft for that matter. If I can't get what i want from that mod, maybe the train mod I hear about. i wondered if you could build good sized train cars like a real train instead. Same thought process though in the end. I envision a MC ocean world where you power a nuclear submarine around as your base :)
Industrial Miner Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Now if you can put items into the Trains storage wagons with the Railcraft loader, yeah, you can then drive the whole train through a big enough Mystcraft Portal just like Direwolf20 does on his age on Pahicraft. But I'm not so sure about linked-together trains going through the mystcraft portal. So maybe a storage cart/wagon powered using boosting rails? But then you'd need to do this on a server because of the worlds unloading.
Lothos Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 well, from a train standpoint i wouldn't necessarily want the train going into the ages. I'd just use it as transport on the overworld. I'd have a book car though with writing desk and link book stands in it. So far for me, the mystcraft ages are like the holodeck from star trek :)
danidas Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Their is a problem with a mystcraft train car or other wise mobile room as link books store the x,y,z cords of where they were created. In other words they will always send you to the exact same location no matter what. So you may be able to leave your train/airship via the mystcraft books from anywhere but returning would not be possible unless your train/airship was in the exact spot where you made the books. Just thought I would save you from a hilarious fall to your death by trying to return airship from a mystcraft age.
Lothos Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 hmm, thats a downright bummer. although i guess not too bad if you're not intent on keeping any particular ages and only use them while the base is stopped.
warpspeed10 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Redpower frames convert everything that is a tile entity into a temporary block (looks like a crate) and then restores that tile entity after the move. This is why tubes, pipes, and machines work on frame ships. Zeplin mod converts the entire craft into one big moving entity. This allows it to rotate and go through portals (a bit buggy). However, since the entire ship is an entity, machines and tubes will not work while you are moving.
Lothos Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 i dont know if i'd be interested in doing anything actively while the base was in motion. i'd picture it more of a move, exploit area, move again kind of approach.

One of the new tracks he showed was the 'linking track'. When two or more carts pass over it close enough together the track will link them. So you could have a linking track near the entry point of the carts and have them link together. Of course interage activity like that is currently limited to SMP.

I haven't actually tried, but would it be possible in theory to to drive a frame machine through a portal?
