bmxfelon420 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Hey, I just wanted to double check something. On my personal server, i use Tekkit lite. In addition I have added a few other things that I like to it, and made it into my own modpack. I have set this to hidden on the Technic page, so I'm assuming this means it wont show up in the index? This pack is only for play on my server, and I wont give out the server folder. Unless someone makes their own server using all the mods mine has, i cant imagine it being used. The point being, I dont plan on ever getting permissions from any author for my pack. I am using the very excellent functionality provided by tekkit lite and the tekkit launcher to simplify installation and updates for myself and my players. This is for all intents and purposes a small, invite only private server. (mostly limited by fear of griefing and limited server resources) Will there be any problems with this in regards to Tekkit Lite or any of the additional mods authors?
theprolo Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I can't think of any mod authors that actually disallow private packs (it would be pointless if they did - nobody would be able to play their mods on their own - they would have to use another modpack which would be pointless), so as long as it's hidden mod authors are generally fine with it.
Kommunističeskiĭ Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 <rant> No offense to mod authors, but I don't give a rat's ass about permission. If I wanted to make a public modpack with every mod in the gallery, I would. I don't see why other people care so much. They can't sue for it. They probably won't protest. The Forestry trojan was an isolated incident and is unlikely to happen again. What I'm trying to say is this is the internet, and everyone knows that once you post something here, it will stay here forever and people will do unthinkable things with it. Check out the Mo' Creatures guy, for example. I'm pretty sure this is why his mod is not on Tekkit. Q.: Can I include your mod in my modpack? A.: I'm sorry, but no. Please do not PM me about it. The answer is still no. </rant>

Maxis010 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Well if he has a problem with Mo'creatures in modpacks then what my community is running is not a pack, it's just 12 people modifying their clients in the exact same fashion to connect to our server TOTALLY not a pack >.> But still, the team won't moderate the packs for their content and if it's a private pack then they can't find it without a link so a mod author does chase me down and ask for his/her mod to be removed then I'll do i purely to commend their dedication because I haven't received permissions for any of the mods that you have to explicitly ask for
lukeb28 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I have to agree with commie on this. I have not asked a single modder (Sides Greenwolf and that was for S and G) for permition. They way I see it is that the packs are making their mods more popluar and well known which I think is what satisfys people the most. If I were a modder and people started to distribute my mod I would be thrilled no matter how it was done.
