Title: Lags caused of high Ethernet usage

Version: 1_0_3

OS: Windows 8 Pro

Java Version: 1.7.0_21-b11

Description of Problem:

Everytime I do something on a server, like right-clicking on a chest, it takes a few seconds until the chest opens. The longer I stay on a server, the more it lags...

In the following there are three links to pictures of my ethernet connection. How can it be, that minecraft uses my whole connection.

Yeah, I know that my internet connection is worse than every normal human beings internet connection, but minecraft worked with much less, until the new tekkit launched.

Which mod sends those incredible big packets and why??

I have to confirm that! I am hosting a server for me and a friend of mine:

8 Core CPU

8 GB RAM (server started with Xms 2GB and Xmx 6GB)

50MBit up-/downstream

While playing the new tekkit, I noticed the huge amount of data downloading from the server.

I can play without any lags (quite good internet Connection), but my mate is very poor at this point.

Before the new Tekkit, we played Tekkit Lite a lot without any kind of lags on the same server hardware.

Here is my connection speed without a server connection...

I also noticed (with active debug mode on [/debug start]) those errors:

As mentioned... the server has lots of power, so the connection.

We haven't noticed lag, never before!

Do you need any kind of log file? People with around 1 MBit internet speed seems to be not able to play lag-free...

One last Thing before someone asks: Java 1.7 Update 21 is installed on my pc, the server and on my mates pc!

Okay, this appears to be in the same situation as a thread I was working on before. I'd instructed him to back up his map and then remove mods individually- beginning with galacticraft, until either the lag stops or you run out of mods. We need to determine whether this is an issue with a particular mod, or with minecraft 1.5.

I also took a log for the second picture. Although from what I see I don't see any major problems in the log output but this could just be me and my noobishness.

Also forgot to mention this is after I updated the jdk and normal java file to 7_21 from what CanVox suggested in my other thread. This also includes the 2 friends that tried to get on. One was on a Mac(Obelmont) and the other was on Windows(Paradox_cpu)

@CanVox I just tried removing the galacticmod and after doing so my connection is how it used to be with Tekkit Classic and Tekkit Lite. My only hope is that if it is really the cause of the issue that it is due to inefficient coding that can easily be fixed. If it isn't though then its likely Tekkit 1.5.1 will only be reserved for people with a outstanding internet connection.

youeatp00: can you confirm that you're on java 1.7_21? There is a known issue that gcraft chokes up networking on versions before that, but upgrading tends to give good results.

I removed Galactacraft from my server and client and I'm still experiencing high latency. I'm connected by LAN and a friend is connected by WAN. We have a consistent upload between 2.5 - 3.0 mbs.

Tat's really interesting- can you remove additional mods until you identify the culprit?

tekkit has to load a few more worlds because of galacticraft. that may be the problem

No, unless you're in the worlds they are not loaded, plus the client wouldn't be causing this many packets either.

i've tried redownloading the entire pack. and started a new world without galactacraft. It went well for about 15 mins then lagged out again. i've started going through the different mods but have not had any significant improvement. its getting late. i will continue troubleshooting tomorrow.

This is really weird. I've actually tried loading it again with the galacticmod added back in and its totally fine now. I have not changed anything other than that.

Micdoodle also did an experiment tonight in which a user who had been encountering trouble on another server joined a Galacticraft-only server and didn't experience trouble.

I found the culprit. in my case it was buildcraft that was causing the issue. I also had to remove aditionalpipes in order to get the server to load. I have all mods except buildcraft and additional pipes running and my server is running lag free again. What do I need to do to get these mods back in the game. They are highly used by my users.

We're investigating at the moment... stay tuned, mod by mod is flying to trash.

After trying just to remove buildcraft (and additional pipes), we can play lag-free! No more 1 MBit/s downloadspeed, just around 50 kbit/s!

We (ONeill87 and me) tested around a little and I have to confirm gr8wolff...

After removing BC and additionalpipes it works fine, without lagging even with my bad internet connection.

We tested to play around with some values in the buildcraft.conf:

# delay between full client sync packets, increasing it saves bandwidth, decreasing makes for better client syncronization.

I:network.stateRefreshPeriod=100

 

# increasing this number will decrease network update frequency, useful for overloaded servers

I:network.updateFactor=100

Nothing helped. Removing the mod (and with it also all items from the world...) and putting the mod back in the server, there was no lag - and also no BC Items in the whole world!

We mentioned that without any BC items and an active BC mod - there is no lag!

But it starts with the first crafted item (eg. a redstone Engine).

Nope, just with no BC items and / or the removed mod the Bandwith is very small :/
