Help! Engine Not Working!

Ok for starters I'm new to this forum so please don't have a go at me if I accidentally posted this in the wrong topic

 

So I've tried powering a an engine from the buildcraft mod and the are red particles coming from it when I've given it a redstone signal but the engine will not power anything or move it just heats up.

How do I fix this problem??

May I ask what it is trying to power and what engine it is?
