Can't moves items to inventory!

I recently started playing Hexxit on my imac.  

 

A couple relevant facts:

 

java version 1.6.0_65

Mac OS 10.8.5

 

16 GB of memory.

 

For some reason I can't move items to my inventory.  I have tried disabling touchscreen and it just doesn't seem to help despite what I've read about this particular fix online.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm a total noob and would like to play this game with my two boys.
