I run a server, and it would be a pain to have to explain to people why half of their factory dispears, because tekkit decided not to include it in this release.

So my idea, was too run Tekkit with minimal mods and if tekkit updates started causing problems we could switch to installing all our mods onto the client itself.

Does this work, will a tekkit world that only has a few mods convert to a normal client that is modded with the same mods?

I hope that made sence.

AFAIK the only mod that is definitely disappearing when 3.0 is properly released is forestry and that's because the mod owner REALLY doesn't want his mod in tekkit as standard. You can probably add forestry back into a server but you'll have to be careful that none of the block IDs it origionally used have been moved over to another mod. If they have and you use a 2.1 map then just give forestry new empty IDs then there's a good chance the server will crash and burn when you try and run it.

Basically, it could be pretty tricky to keep a 2.1 server going when 3.0 comes out.

Running a new Tekkit release with Forestry requires the following steps:

1) Either start a new map, or manually alter item and block IDs to give Forestry back the ones it expects and reallocate the ones Forestry needs that other mods are using. Starting a new map is preferred, anyway, because of so many mod changes.

2) Getting all your users to manually download and install Forestry, and also to insall the .cfg files you provide them so their local item and block IDs match the server's.

All in all, a headache. Possible, certainly, but a headache. Feasible on a small server between friends; Ridiculous on an open server with a bunch of strangers.

You forgot:

3) check every line of code to ensure that Sengir hasn't included any more malicious shit to fuck you over.

He's established he's willing to do it already, I'm never going to trust another line of code the man produces again.

Truth. That's why I'm trying to get a Java security manager working with Minecraft, and...failing. :-( I'm hoping someone smarter or craftier than me can help break through this brick wall I've just faceplanted.

He removed the DRM for the Technic launcher about a week after the shitstorm died down, he accepted that the Technic team would not include it in the pack (it seems).

Yeah, but he's still proven he's willing to include malicious code.

If I ordered a burger and the frycook took a shit in it, I wouldn't be particularly willing to order burgers from that frycook any more.

True. However, some people still want to install forestry despite what happened.

People know what happened so let's stop continually bringing it up.

Just FYI this wasn't about forestry, it was just in case something happened to a mod that we gave a shit about :)

Forestry was useless in my opinon, farming was possible with the other mods, making shit ton easy is overkill
