Small Server looking for European player (British?)
Buttneck replied to Buttneck's topic in Big Dig Servers
You don't have to be British to be on the server lol...I am just looking for someone in the right time zone so my buddy has someone to play with. We are mostly American, and the server is actually hosted in Arizona. On to the next point: I DID say message me in my original post, so if you are in fact still interested in playing on my server (AND live in a European time zone...please indicate that in your message lol) then we can talk. If that's too much to ask, then no...application denied. Sorry to be a douchebag about it, but not being able to follow instructions is a bad sign in my experience. The last thing I need is someone who doesn't pay attention. Thank you. Buttneck -
Honestly, if I were looking to make the armor "less OP," I would have just made the weight restriction ramp up significantly until it cooled down...catching on fire when you aren't near water (and haven't had the foresight to carry a bucket with you, etc.) is a bit annoying; that said, I haven't really tried the suggestions in this thread, as I kind of want to wait until Tekkit updates to include more stuff. I'm a bit addicte to Forestry in Big Dig at the moment lol.

Hi there. I run a small 6 slot server that currently has 3 active players, soon to be 4. One of the guys is European (German) and although I keep odd hours, he is usually on alone. He expressed to me that he would love to have a Brit on the server just so he had someone to play with. I would prefer someone who is 18+ and mature, so I don't have to babysit. I am 43 and the other "main" guy is 39, so adults are preferred. We are running Big Dig 1.2.2 at the moment but the discussion is always open if we want to change modpacks. Big Dig is my current favorite, though. (Beekeeping is soooo addictive.) Anyway, message me if you want to try my server out. It's basic Big Dig 1.2.2 with no addons or extra mods. Please tell me a bit about yourself. It doesn't have to be a biography, just enough to show me your maturity level lol.

Well, I'm not mad about anything. I was just looking for a way to not catch on fire lol.

I like the seed "dirtblock" that I am currently using. Village with a blacksmith, who has some decent starting stuff in his chest, A great big hole with lots of dungeons before you get to the village, and a ravine with the ender portal fort. All real close to spawn. I can't take credit for finding it, though. I got it off a Youtube video.

Heh, well it may not be an issue to you, but it does seem like the heat mechanic needs some balancing. I certainly don't want to seem like an ungrateful whiner. (I love Minecraft and am grateful for the access to the huge amount of content the Technic Launcher brings to the game. I realize the whole pack can only get better, and will of course. I also understand the tradeoff mechanic is what makes the power suit mod kind of cool. I don't know if I am willing to tweak it that much though lol. I guess I am just lazy. It does seem weird that you actually have to put on armor to cool it down, and only one piece at that. Still, I guess I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth lol.

It's really weird...I had the heat sinks etc. installed at first, but I uninstalled them, as well as the kinetic generator. I have EVERY slider all the way to the left on all the components on every piece of armor, and if I put even one on and just stand there, I catch on fire in less than 30 seconds. All pieces do this except the claw. I guess I just have to use creative mode. :: I have half a mind to just go back to Lite until this issue is addressed, but I really like Galacticraft, as unfinished as it is. Grrrr....

Thanks for the quick reply. I do have the kinetic thing installed on the legs. I did just check it, and I actually have the kinetic generator turned all the way down. (Heat generation = 5) Maybe it is something else. I'll need to go over each piece. Also, I found it odd that I caught on fire when the stuff wasn't even equipped. My Tekkit was acting a little glitchy anyway yesterday, (Half blocks not rendering, etc.) I restarted it and it seems to be running fine. Who knows, maybe this is related to something else...like the game still "thought" I had the armor on or something. I'll test further later today, since I don't really have the time at the moment. Again, thanks for the prompt (and polite!) reply.

I have been testing out the power armor by spawning in the pieces in creative mode and adding the upgrades at a tinker table. I pretty much followed Duncan's recommendations for the settings and upgrades, and while I am still sort of messing around with it, it has been pretty much working except for one thing: Apparently it overheats or something, because I will be in midair and suddenly I will be on fire! I used the heat sink upgrades where they are available, but they don't seem to make much difference. I don't even have to have the pieces equipped. If they are just in my inventory, I still ignite. I have tried googling "Power Armor catching on fire Tekkit" and various permutations thereof, and I can't seem to find anything. I run a small server, and I like to build BIG projects. I would like to get away from relying on creative mode for flying, and the power armor seems to be the only available source of flight at the moment. However, if I have to worry about catching on fire in midair all the time, it doesn't seem like a very viable option. Does anyone have any insight here? If the heat is something I have to monitor, how do I do it?

...says the person with 5 posts to this page of the thread alone. Whatever.

Honestly...Tekkit Lite is a new modpack. Condensors, collectors, and everything else in EE2 weren't actually removed. They were not included in the first place. If you want EE2, play Tekkit Classic. It's still available and there are still servers out there running it for the people who want EE2. I relied on collectors/condensors to a great extent in Tekkit before Lite came out, and when my friend switched his server over to Tekkit Lite, I was apprehensive. However, after exploring some of the "new" mods added to Lite, we were able to generate PLENTY of materials using a flat Mystcraft world with multiple quarries, adjustable electric engines with teleport pipes to power them, and ender chests. The excess cobble and dirt gets fed into a mass fabricator to make UU-matter. We now have 1024 stacks of UU-matter, and had to shut off the mass fabs because the upgraded barrel was overflowing. I think the real problem with including something "OP" like condensors/collectors with a modpack is that it makes generating blocks so easy that you have no reason to explore the other 60 or so mods included in the pack. I swear, all I hear is "Waaaaaaaah." This "issue" is over. It is resolved. Move on.

Wow...I am not sure how you might have thought that avatar was in any way appropriate. I have a pretty good sense of humor, but that's just not funny. -
Yep, getting the same error for Tekkit and Vanilla, both on the servers that use Tekkit 3.1.3 and 3.1.2. If I restart my pc, I (sometimes) can log in to a server, but eventually I get booted, and when I try to log back in I get the error

Many, many people hate on the Yogscast.
-
So much hate for Yogscast...Personally, I think it's a little misplaced. Sure, the millions of little kid "Yognauts" can be annoying, (Simon and Lewis allude to this themselves in roundabout ways,) but I enjoy their content, and yes, watching Yogscast is what originally drew me to Minecraft, and later, Tekkit. I think that hating on Yogscast must be a cool teenage thing to do. I like their "incompetence." It's entertaining and presented well. I find videos of "uber gamers" really boring, to be honest. I find the Yogscast's self-deprecation charming. As far as "the other mod pack," I don't know...I think the lack of EE will turn a lot of people off, despite the Portal guns and whatnot. I tried it for a bit, but it is hard to judge something like that without extensive playtime. I don't think that the release of a competing modpack is going to be the thing that "kills" Tekkit, though. I doubt I will be moving completely away from Tekkit, but I will probably play other mod packs as well. I will continue to watch Yogscast regardless of what Minecraft mod pack they use. Hating something just because it has become popular is very high school.

Small Scale Recruitment Thread
Buttneck replied to The Merchant of Menace's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
I am 43 and looking for a nice, lag-free Tekkit home. I have played on many different-sized servers from 4 players all the way up to 150 slot mega public servers (ugh.) I have been playing Minecraft for about a year and Tekkit for about 6 months. I won't bother you with details about my experiences, as I am sure most of you have experienced the heartbreak of lag, annoying kids who are just plain lazy beggars, servers being down for hours on end at the times you want to play, (all the time for me heehee,) and the general unpleasantness that seems to come from the combination of the internet+anonymity. Someone please take me in! I have built some slightly mind-blowing stuff, enjoy tinkering around, and have a great sense of humor. I am in the pacific time zone, and due to being unemployed, play pretty much at all hours of the day, especially when I have a project under construction. I don't grief, steal, or any of that other nasty stuff. I can even keep my swearing in check if that's an issue. (I am a former cab driver.) I am decent at tekkit, and always willing to learn and collaborate if I am playing with non-idiots. (This may sound harsh, but playing Tekkit does require a modicum of intelligence and ability to use critical thinking.) I have been playing online games for, well, since they were invented lol. Someone please take pity on my poor soul and let me join your server! -
Yes...It has been that way since last night when Ion told me he would reset the server several times to try and fix the lag. Apparently the server has been resetting itself all night. I offered to donate the 50 bucks that he still needs to upgrade from 4 gB to 32 (!), but I recently lost my wallet and won't have my new cards till sometime this week. (I hope.) It would be sweet if someone else would donate at least part of that to soften the blow to me. Like I said, I would do it right now if I could, but it won't be for at least another couple of days. Ion, I tried to run a small private Tekkit server myself, so I sympathize. I constantly had issues. Hopefully it gets ironed out soon. I am not so nive to think that the memory upgrade will solve all the problems, but I am sure it will help a great deal.
