An Old Fashioned RedPower Computer
Mercalyn replied to BestFleetAdmiral's topic in Avant Garde Arena
Judging by the pictures of the interior, I'd say everything is in binary only. You would have to convert it to decimal first, which requires more math than most simple math operations, then translate that to numbers on a screen. ..Or you could just use binary coded decimal as previously mentioned ^^ -
An Old Fashioned RedPower Computer
Mercalyn replied to BestFleetAdmiral's topic in Avant Garde Arena
That's very impressive. People have made logic units entirely from vanilla redstone, but I think it's more dealing with the intricacies of vanilla redstone rather than the pure theory of it. I'll bet it took you a while to math up all of your cable lengths huh? Or did you just estimate them? I'm in the process of designing my own theory-computer right now. I'm a little stuck at the ALU controller, but I'll get past it eventually. I really like your work. I respect your decision to not share it, but I'd certainly download it if you did EDIT: And I TOTALLY agree with your statement about taking computers for granted. I hate it when a computer breaks down or freezes and the owner of it starts cussing at it like it is at fault. In reality, we should realize that a modern computer is nothing less than miraculous, and took billions of man-hours to achieve what we have today. I don't think I'd ever make my computer in Tekkit, so I commend you for doing so. I'm planning on having a direct hardware interpreter(using a language like FORTH or something). EDIT2: How much memory(bits) does the program memory have? I'm guessing the program memory is like the BIOS that starts up when you turn it on? Also, I don't think you mentioned the memory you can store in the RAM? I'm also curious, did you make a way to script things to happen(i.e: program it to add 3+4 on a specific program load?), or is it manual inputs the whole way? In addition to this, have you ever heard of Binary Coded Decimal? -
Discovered: method of making any YouTube video hilarious!

Wow I never knew Youtube's caption service was that bad. -
It's interesting to me that however important Covert thought this thread was, he hasn't posted back here once. Regardless of the permissions fiasco, I like Railcraft and would hate to see it go.
-
It's no longer in the Technic packs? Arg. I guess I'm indifferent; I liked CC as much as RPC and the redpower logic. But now I feel bad for the rest of you >.< EDIT: I guess I never realized how much I missed CC(while playing Lite) XD. Maybe the OP should start a petition list.
-
If that doesn't work then the problem is beyond me.
-
This could be a refreshing change. Tekkit Classic still has CC. I know a lot of the Tekkit servers manually go in and get rid of CC, so maybe it's a load off of them? The loss of CC may be regrettable, but we still have RPC(redpower control). It's not as user friendly, but still works as a computer-type thing.

Sorry, off topic a lil' there. You've tried the obvious things right? Adv OpenGL ON, Smooth lighting OFF, Render distance: Normal, Performance: Max FPS & Graphics: Fast?
-
Yeah, I load it with a lot of games and programs. All with the knowledge that it'll be all okay in 6 months :D
-
I reload my OS every 6 months or so(it can't stay status quo forever!) Anyways, do the lag spikes happen on SSP too?
-
Then try Linux.
-
I'm out of ideas then! Can you run vanilla Minecraft at normal FPS?
-
It could very well be that you're 2 operating systems behind. I don't like Windows at all, so I don't vouch for it. On the other hand, Linux has problems with ATI. You could look up how to use Java with more memory. In Win7 you would go to Control panel, Java, Java, view, user, in runtime parameters click ADD and put in "-Xms1024M -Xmx2048M" I would double the default amount, I tripled mine. You can also do -Xms2G -Xmx3G

Do you like circuits / redstone / computer stuff? That's right up my alley. I had an idea to build a starship in the sky, everything will be controlled by a central mainframe(individual lights in hallways/rooms, doors to places, virtual "flight.") using CC. Say your cabin door is locked and you want access to it, you enter your credentials into the console next to your room, and you send the command to open your room door. The mainframe acknowledges that you are the right user to open this door, so it sends back the verified command to open your door. Or if you are a guest, the mainframe sees this and then sends the request("Can I come in?") to inside the room, if the user is not inside their room, it sends the request to wherever that user is "logged in." Or if the commander says there is an intruder, s/he can then send the command to lockdown all private quarters until further notice, or if there is a air leak somewhere, you could send the 'lock everything down' command. Lots of fun things can do. I might add the option to hack systems and gain entry to otherwise restricted areas. ("Would you like to Brute force this console?") or, (inject code into line). Extremely complex, but that is, of course, the fun of it. Then again, if you don't go for this computer type stuff, this would be hell.

I never worry about it. As long as you can connect to your server(or if you just play SSP that's fine), it can't matter too much. Everyone I know gets that message.
-
You're probably right, I've actually gotten it wrong before haha. All I know is that it is the highest reactor setup with 2030 EU. I like to have ridiculous amounts more, so I normally make 2 or 4 of those reactors. All contained in a plant that looks strikingly familiar to Chernobyl. :D
-
No matter what method you use, I would still use pneumatic tubes. A lot of problems on servers involve buildcraft, and they seem to lag the server sometimes. Not only this, pneu-tubes go much faster!
-
I don't think so, but thanks for your appreciation :D

Issues with people connecting with my server.

^ agree with Wendy, firewalls are often a cause of problems. And sometimes Hamachi just doesn't want to work with you. In either case, port forwarding is a good solution. In multiplayer troubleshooting in any game, someone will ask "Did you port forward?" -
As long as everything is connected directly or via ribbon cable, you can: shift click any of the components with a screwdriver(CPU, Monitor, IO Extender, Drive) to see its ID. In the CPU you have to match the ID, so if it says "Console :1", all monitors connected to it should have an ID of 1.

Nothing, just split the pipe and be sure both paths are an equal distance to the nearest chest/device. Not always will items split perfectly 50/50, but its generally pretty close.

The most effective reactor setup is to have every single reactor cell(using 6 chambers) with a uranium cell, minus 7 slots at the bottom. Make sure the 2 uranium cells on the bottom row don't touch, or the power will exceed 2048(EV), the most an HV cable can hold. Those 7 centered slots on the bottom are for ice. I generally use EE, but apparently you found a good non-EE ice production. The total output of this reactor is 2030EU, the allotted EU you can have without blowing up cables. For every 300EU/t production, you take 1 ice /t(20 ice / second). So this reactor setup effectively uses a little over 2 stacks of ice per second. Re-enriched uranium cells come from a Breeder reactor. These are reactors designed to re-enrich uranium cells that are depleted. They don't output any EU, and should be kept at around 9000 temperature for max efficiency. You heat a reactor up by uranium cells, and stop them with thermal monitors connected to the reactor.

Help with Tekkit Server Set-up

Alternatively, you could change the level-seed and just change the level-name and play on the new name without deleting anything. -
ComputerCraft: Searching for RedPowerWorld
Mercalyn replied to killerinthenite's topic in Tekkit Classic Discussion
Earlier in the console you probably got: Loading ComputerCraft v1.46 (rev 782) ComputerCraft: Searching for RedPowerLib... ComputerCraft: RedPowerLib not found. It searched for it once, then failed. Continued to load everything else, then attempted to load it again, and failed. CC interfaces with the RedPower library, and for whatever reason it can't find it. I would try to load a new map and see if you have the same problem. If it persists, then(knowing that a re-install doesn't help) you could try to manually re-install just the CC mod. < If that doesn't work, then try to manually install Redpower(core + everything) -
What version is your current server? I think the most recent version of Tekkit server is for 3.1.3, which translates to Minecraft version 1.2.5
