  1. I thought better java support was supposed to be added in the last major version? Or was that referring to the egg incubating issues that used to happen when you poured coffee into the coolant reservoir? Either way, the new corn kernal is proving effective at keeping my duckintosh from being starved of RAM like it used to be. Thanks for the update!
  2. For initially loading up your windows install, portableapps is a great thing to have. I just run it all from a folder on my desktop. Auto-updating, good free stuff, super easy to manage too. Ninite is also great for initial setup. (But you probably already knew about both of those.) Other than that, nothing really comes to mind for setting up a new machine. Have fun with that beauty of a box!
  3. Yeah. RAID is a really really really good idea for whichever drive you decide to use to store most of your stuff. Of course, I see no reason, (other than a possible lack of drive slots), why you couldn't get another disk and have RAID drives for 2 of the disks, or just have 2 RAID drives for a disk partitioned to have all three OSes on it (given your system supports that kind of RAID-partitioning shenanigans), or a RAID disk for 2 disks and have 1 OS on one and 2 on the other... etc. Lot of options here, but you should use RAID for anything you really don't want to lose and need quick constant access to.
  4. Not necessarily, unless you feel crunched for space. It's not like you're running them all at once. Personally, I'd set up whatever your primary OS is on it's own disk, (The one you'll be storing everything on), put the other 2 OSes in their own partitions on the second disk, and run a RAID1 disk of the first disk on the third. Mostly because the average TTF, (time to failure), is unknown for the 2 disks you got for cheap. Unless they were new in-package, of course.
  5. Oh. Well, buildcraft is the obvious suspect, seeing as it's the only mod I see mentioned in this log. This line; at buildcraft.silicon.TileLaser.findTable(TileLaser.java:160) makes me guess that for some reason all of the lasers in your world are brute-force-style searching through your worlds for tables to connect to when you start. Are any of the lasers/laser tables doing anything funky? If it would be okay to do so, you could try deleting them all either from within minecraft starts or with an external tool. Does the rest of the log look exactly like this? If not, could you post more?
  6. Alright, I'll look through those for you when I get the time.
  7. So.. nothing bad is happening? No lag or anything?
  8. If it's an eSATA connection, yes. USB; no on windows, yes on Linux/fedora, OSX; I don't think so.

  10. 3; Hexxit is a lot more CPU heavy, (especially with the worldgen), but the fact that your processor is even an i7 tells me enough to tell you that you should be totally fine.
  11. So, as it turns out, blood is really, really hard to get out of a keyboard. Like, really hard. Just FYI.

That must be one epic facedesk.

Er... yeah. That's what it was. A facedesk. Totally. I'll just be over here, washing my hands for no reason.

  12. You mean partitions, right? You couldn't possibly have.... 3 drives in that thing... heh. ...right? Other than that, you're totally set. It will do all those things easily. You'd probably be harder pressed to find things that laptop cannot do. ... And I am very jealous.
  13. Could you please try disabling MAB? It may not be blocking it directly, but it might be doing something more subtle that causes the launcher to freak out and die. I know it sounds stupid, but I've seen far dumber things make the launcher spazz out. Other than that, I'm not really coming up with much, other than to nuke your .technic folder, re-download the launcher, and try everything again from scratch. All I can see, (In the second chunk of the log. The first one contains even less useful information), is that the launcher starts, you hit play for the voltz pack, and it goes to download, gets a few mods and hashes them successfully, starts getting powercrystals stuff, and dies without a trace. Maybe I'm just missing something here, (If someone else can see what I'm missing, by all means, enlighten me!) but that's what I see. If you want to try to get another log in the hopes that this one will be more useful, I'll be happy to look at it though.
  14. So, I'm assuming you've tried disabling all of your antivirus programs and then running it, right? That often causes problems. The log file is odd though, it doesn't show anything bad happening as far as I can tell, it just stops downloading a mod suddenly, (after successfully getting others), and dies without a sound. My best guess based on the evidence you've given is that something external is killing the launcher.
  15. But on the other hand, any information he does include on redpower will be relatively useless/outdated... Nevermind, nothing intelligent to see here. Move along.
  16. So, uh, this is interesting. http://arstechnica.com/science/2013/11/counting-photons-without-destroying-them/ Thoughts?
  17. Has this been happening for a while? What was the last thing you did concerning any kind of drivers or anything before this started happening? Also, more than half of these look like network time-outs.
  18. Full stop. Books, as in, published books? Or more like an online collection of guides? Regardless, there are a lot of ways that you could approach this. You could write a wiki-style reference, or more of a guide-type material, or an analysis of common and different aspects of different mods.
  19. Do correct me if I am wrong, but I believe your answer is already there. Just have your startup program run whatever is needed to do one more block of mining. It moves, gets reset, and mines another block, sending it to storage before moving again. And so on and so forth.
