  1. Just out of curiosity, try replacing your conductive stone pipes with conductive gold. I can't for the life of me remember what it was but I had something which refused to work without gold pipes and I've never had a problem with them. I've said that before and entirely agree. "Use redstone conduits" isn't realistic advice for someone trying to power their first pulveriser/furnace setup.
  2. I noticed this yesterday on my 1.0.6 server,it wouldn't let me till soil blocks which were directly in front of the floodlight. Turning it off, tilling the blocks and then turning the light back on again worked fine though. Not sure why you couldn't put things where the light was, it works fine in 1.0.6 when the light is off and the 1.1.5 changelog doesn't list an update for it.
  3. Their machines would need the Tekkit files anyway, the question is when and how they're downloaded. One thing I have wondered though is why Minecraft can't take cues from the server. In older versions of Counterstrike (I'd guess the newer ones too) if a server ran any mods and an unmodded client tried to join the client would automatically download the mod files from the server whilst trying to join. That meant the server admin was solely responsible for handling the mod files and that clients didn't need to worry about getting the right versions, updating their files, etc. because they'd all be downloaded/updated when they joined the server. At a wild guess I'd say MC has to preload some mod files at launch so it can't download and use mod files without a restart, but it would be handy if it could.
  4. You can build range upgrades to increase the area that the machines will work on.
  5. The World Edit wiki says it is destructive, which I take it means it would regenerate the chunk and remove any buildings you have.
  6. You can do it manually with a bit of fiddling around in a world editor like MCEdit. MCEdit has an option in the chunk control tool to repopulate ores, althought last time I tried it it would crash if I used it on too many chunks at a time. Worst comes to worst you can either delete all chunks which haven't been built in so that when they regenerate they'll spawn new ores or, if your buildings aren't too spread out, you can copy your constructions, deleted the entire world, generate a new world with the same seed and then paste your buildings back in. Make plenty of backups though, it's easy to mess this up or forget something.
  7. Oh I know what it can do, but adding an entire new block and UI seems a bit over the top for it. Most of these things could have been done in the normal crafting grid, and the fancypants magic ink mechanic could have been done in the writing desk. Right now if you want to do pretty much anything you have to go to the ink mixer, craft a few linkpanels, go to the writing desk, copy a few symbol pages and then go to the binder just to stick them all together. You're also going to go through a hell of a lot more ink now that you need a full ink bottle to just make the linking page. I'm not saying it's a major problem with the mod, it just seems a little pointless.
  8. So he did. The ink mixer seems a little pointless at the moment, but the new customisable crystal ages sound interesting.
  9. Off the top of my head there's a new way to do things using an ink mixer. I've not moved to 1.1.15 yet but the impression I get from the Mystcraft Wiki is that you've to add ink and paper to the ink mixer to make linking panels, and use thelinking panels in the writing desk/book binder the way you used to use paper.
  10. You can't do anything to fix it: they're bugged. I think they're sorted in the next patch but until then you're stuck with tesseracts.
  11. Nope, but somebody is working on a replacement. No idea what kind of timescale it'll be on though.
  12. Like Jono said they're bugged at the moment: if you unload the chunk they're in and then come back the pipes don't seem to properly transfer power. Breaking them and replacing them will fix that until the chunk unloads again. If you're early stage and the server admin allows it you could try putting down a dimensional anchor so that they won't unload. Otherwise make a beeline for the more expensive redstone conduits or hope that the next update fixes this.
  13. There's some new mechanic with an ink mixer block. I think you've to add ink and paper to it to get unlinked pages and use one of those with leather to make a linking book. They seem to have changed a fair bit of Mystcraft in this update.
  14. But but but...they're not coloured! Thanks, I'll plonk stained glass in front of them
  15. It has been updated: that's what Tekkit is. Tekkit Classic as you know it isn't being updated anymore because some of the core features of it aren't being updated anymore. You can't update those when there's no official update available to apply. By the way, does anyone know if there's a replacement or one in the works for the lamps and inverted lamps? Stained glass doesn't quite cover it.
  16. Not quite everything was replaced though. Frames, nuclear reactors, solar, low-tier energy storage and maybe one or two other things haven't yet been replaced. Yet. Yes, I know many of these things are in the process of being replaced but they aren't in the game right now. We're still better off without mods which aren't updating though, and I wouldn't say Tekkit without them "sucks".
  17. In the launcher to the left where the icon for the type of game you're launching is there should be a little cog icon. Click on that and there should be an option to choose your build there.
  18. Just to add to what Dash said, MFR sludge can look deceptively like oil. Pick some up in a bucket and it'll tell you whether it's real oil or just sludge.
  19. They're bugged at the moment, you could use tesseracts instead or wait for the next patch.
  20. Yeah I can see a lot of potential in it, it's probably just going to take a while for me to learn LUA. I've too many other IRL and in-game things to do at the moment!
  21. I didn't ever really get to grips with CC, I'll have to have another go when I get the time. A city-wide power system is exactly the kind of thing I'd love though! From the BigReactors page it does both MJ and UE
  22. You haven't lived. I never did get around to hooking my basic machines up to 512EU/t, but the speed they did things at 128EU/t with as many overclocker upgrades as they'd take was beautiful.
  23. The Nuclear Control Pack and wireless redstone were my best friends for things like that! I guess this depends on what you play the game for. I can entirely see what you're saying, but on the server I ran this didn't bother many people: power was a means to an end, and an infinite power block meant they could spend more time exploring and building than tinkering with a machine they made ages ago. Personally I always made a beeline for nuclear because I thought it was more fun, but also because I knew that at the end of that effort if I just wanted to get on with a building project I wouldn't need to even consider whether or not I'd have the necessary power. Tekkit only has two difficulty settings: creative and survival. There's no "grind" slider, and I guess you and I would just be at different ends of that if there was one. You think there's a problem with place and forget energy, I'm not so bothered. At the end of the day you've just got to play it the way you prefer.
  24. Out of curiosity, did you consider the nuclear reactors to have the same problem? They may have been multi-block, but after a lot of investment and setup they provided huge amounts of power for something as simple as swapping uranium cells in and out once every 3 hours or so.
  25. Unfortunately not, but the Destruction Catalyst was Equivalent Exchange 2. Tekkit has EE 3 which is still under heavy development, and in the MinecraftForum thread the author says that Dark Matter tools will make a comeback at some point and that they'll have the equivalent function.
