I can't answer the other questions, but the BigReactors page currently has it at playtest version 0.0.2, so probably a while.

I really liked IC2 and I do miss it. I agree that while other mods might replicate the functionality there still seems to be something lacking, even though IC2 wasn't perfect. However, I also totally agree with the decision to remove it: other updated mods have awesome content and as much as I miss IC2 it is better to have a bunch of stuff which is updating. In saying that: Part of me isn't sure about this. Even if IC2 updated tomorrow, can we be sure the author will keep it that way long-term? They've gone stale once, they could easily do it again in the short to mid-term and leave us in exactly the same lurch.

Derp, so it is. At least I go the machine's name right

Phased conductives are apparently bugged at the moment and don't work. As for the NASA bench, you should be able to make all dusts using the MFR Pulveriser rather than with a macerator.

This topic has been done to death in threads like this one. In short, they're not being updated and have fallen waaay behind with regards to the latest version of Minecraft, so they've been taken out.

From the MFR page on the MC forums it mines "underneath" the bedrock, so effectively it produces ores for MJ. There's an upgrade to increase the odds of a particular ore type you want. It's essentially an enormous energy sink which spawns ore in return.

Score! I was starting to get frustrated with how messy my AE brewing setup was. Fingers crossed it won't be too long before an official Tekkit release.

Yeah, so if Magister is right and the problem is dimensions which won't unload then pruning old DimDoor dimensions might remove any which are problematic. Worst comes to worst Vas will just lose a load of old dungeons they havent visited in a while.
-
I have a funny feeling that the last time I was flicking through the /help menu on my server there was a command from DimDoors called something like "prune dimensions". If the problem is DimDoors and if that command does what it sounds like it might be worth a try? Just make sure you've got a backup...

Moon bases and Space stations are useless now because
Shoe replied to Spoonman's topic in Tekkit Discussion
Atomic Science, which people have suggested should be added to Tekkit, handles nuclear reactor radiation and has HAZMAT gear. Could be interesting to see the mechanic transferred over. At the same time you're going to want some sort of payoff for all that difficulty and resource expenditure. It'd be easy to have a single dangerous ore-rich planet but you'd need some sort of variety for the rest. -
Somebody seems to have removed the link at the bottom of that page. The guide is here.

I don't think it has an official release yet, it is still early stage: the Github page is here.

The general recommendation is never hook an engine directly up to what it is charging, because if the thing you're charging stops using power the engines will go kaboom. Connect the engines to a redstone conduit and connect the conduit to the energy cube: that way they'll never explode.

Something like the sentry turrets in Voltz maybe? Aliens movie recreation optional!

Giant iron golem with laserbeam eyes? It'd be like a friendly skeleton but reskinned.

Fair enough, I can see why the rapid transport would be handy. As for the machine room comment I prefer to have a factory floor setup in my house rather than hide it away. Each to their own I guess. AE can craft but it can't convert one material into the other, so it's no good for turning massive stockpiles of iron into copper or anything like that. I've only just started using AE but so far apart from saving you from having to stack chests everywhere and run between them it seems to be a much more intelligent and tidy albeit expensive version of the autocrafting table/pipes/pumps/chests setup you used to have to build to mass craft things.

On top of that, while EE3 might not fit in with Tekkit's other mods it fits in well with standard minecraft features: potion brewing, weapon and armour enchanting, etc. Plus dimensional doors aren't necessarily a technical achievement. The one reason I loved EE2 was because it allowed me to turn a massive surplus of iron into something useful like copper which can be hard to find. The collectors and rings and so on were massively overpowered so I can understand why they're gone, but I don't see anything wrong with the Minium stone. Especially not when it wears out. I've never mucked about with DimDoors to be honest, wandering through the dungeons can be fun but why hang around in a pocket dimension? I don't think it's that different to building it in the Overworld.

Trying to make a 3x3 door Using Rednet cable
Shoe replied to TokiWartooth's topic in Tekkit Discussion
Programmable Rednet Controller I think. This is something I'd love to get working at some point, I tried to do it ages ago and didn't quite get there. EDIT: Derp, beaten to it. -
From what I've heard a few people have made unofficial 1.5.1-compatible IC2 releases, but there's no guarantee they'll stick with it for the long term or that they'll balance it, make it play nice with other mods, etc. On top of that some of the general criticisms of IC2 were pretty valid to be honest. I'll miss IC2 but I'm hoping most of the features will be replaced in newer versions of other mods. Now these are things I'll look forwards to, and this is why it's better to stick with updating mods than with a well-liked but stagnant one.

I would add Tier II machines to that list, I really miss upgrading my factories to mass-process materials much faster even if it did take a hell of a lot of energy. Still, the point is that for all the flaws it has new Tekkit is still being updated and can have this stuff added in future, whereas IC2 Tekkit won't because everyone has moved on from developing for 1.4.7.
-
The short answer is that IC2 hasn't been updated since...1.4.7? The original modder has apparently lost interest in it and there doesn't seem to be an official replacement modder/team, so there isn't an official version compatible with the latest version of Minecraft. Rather than let Tekkit stall until (if?) it eventually got updated it was dropped and replaced with other machines which perform more or less the same jobs. As far as I've been able to gather, anyway. Yeah, the IC2 gap hasn't been completely filled, but there is still time for that to happen. It's a bit harder and more of a grind yeah, but I wouldn't say it's a waste of time. At any rate at least it is still being updated with new content, whereas if we stuck with IC2 we'd still be on old-Minecraft and probably the 1.4.7 version of a lot of the other mods too.

You'll need a system which moves biomaterial into a Bioreactor. This makes a purple liquid which, when pumped into a Biofuel Generator, makes MJ. The biomaterials seem to be a bit funny. Tree saplings, raw potatoes (not baked), carrots, and seeds definitely work. I've heard that apples and cactus green (but not cactus itself) work, Wheat, meat of any kind and slimeballs doon't seem to work. It's really a case of trial and error. Use the MFR machines: one popular version is a patch of dirt with a planter underneath it. Fill the planter with oak saplings: when powered it'll plant them in the dirt automatically. If you then plonk a harvester beside this dirt patch it'll automatically cut down any trees which grow and pump them into a pipe. You then need a pipe system which sends some of the saplings to the planter for replanting and some to the bioreactor. You can do what you like with the wood and apples (send the apples to the reactor as well maybe?). There are a few good youtube videos showing these, take a look and see if they're worth the effort. EDIT: Beaten to it.

I think they're called Dimensional Anchors in NEI. I'm not totally sure what the MJ/t output of biofuel is, some people seem to reckon it is ~15MJ/t at full pace, compared to 4MJ/t for a magmatic engine. The tradeoff is the automated farm you'll need to power it, but then again you'll need a lava pump for magmatics. I'm not totally sure which would be better. (I've a funny feeling magmatics produce more power in new Tekkit though, but the New Tekkit Wiki doesn't seem to have this kind of info yet.)

Golden conductive pipes do work, but if you unload the chunk they're in you have to break and replace them before they'll start working again. I haven't tried placing a world anchor beside them though, I wonder if they would continue to work with one of those around? I agree that redstone conduits are a bit pricey for what they do but apart from the bugged conductive pipes I don't think there's an alternative. I'm not sure about increasing the output of your cells besides just adding extra cells to the system. It might be better to upgrade from Steam engines to something like fuel or biofuel, if I'm reading the wiki right 15 Steam engines only output 30 MJ/t, which isn't a lot for all of your machines plus a few quarries.

Pictures of your setup would be really useful here.
