You can't update to 1.7. Mods depend on the Minecraft version, so when all the mods are compatible with the next version of Minecraft the modpack will update.

I'm sorry, I assumed if you were looking for rubber trees you could tap you hadn't read up on MFR trees, and were therefore looking for IC2 trees. 9 times out of 10, these kinds of questions come from people who didn't realize they weren't playing Tekkit Classic. For future reference, there's a link to the official wiki at the top of this page. As far as Tekkit goes, it has documentation only for the the 1.5 "Tekkit" tekkit, and I believe it's in pretty good shape.

You didn't look at the mod list for Tekkit before you started, did you? IndustrialCraft 2 is not in Tekkit, and the macerator and electric furnace alternatives (pulverizer and powered furnace) do not require rubber. Have you tried WorldEdit? It makes it easier to construct impressive buildings.

I meant to just ignore them. It's totally up to you if you want to use them, they aren't integral to the tech tree or anything. You never know, you may just decide to get into Atomic Science at some point!

I don't think you should downgrade. You don't have to use the mods that were added since 1.0.6, but the mods that were in that version are more up to date.

Delete everything you have, it's easier to start fresh. Next look up how to run a normal Minecraft server on a OSX, I use windows so I can't tell you exactly what to do. You will likely have some sort of command or script to run, and in that you need change it like this: blah blah blah java blah blah minecraft_server.jar blah blah blah blah blah blah java blah blah Tekkit.jar blah blah blah I expect that would work.

Oh, you are the host? In that case there is no reason why you should not be able to use launch.bat. Redownload the server and try again.

Really? Not even with Winrar or 7zip? Then you are out of luck. Maybe you could ask your host for some help, or suggest Technic server support.

I assume you can't use launch.bat because of your server host? That's how you are supposed to do it, but if you copy the contents of Tekkit.jar into minecraft_server.jar it should work.

By 'Tekkit' I mean Tekkit, not Tekkit Classic. You know, the 1.5 one.

Tekkit lite probably has a very outdated version of mystcraft. Tekkit has ink mixers, you can play that. If you aren't ready to upgrade yet though you should know that you don't need linking pages to make linking books in very old versions of the mod- look it up in NEI to be sure but I believe you just put a regular book in your crafting bench.
