I've been lucky enough to not have been through any of that. I've mostly played on private servers, and I'm a mod on the only public server I really play a lot on.
Try starting small with some vanilla Minigames servers to get back into playing with S(tranger)MP.
Mac is not an operating system.
Be more specific with you java version. 7.what?
Launcher version 1.1.8? Do you mean Tekkit version 1.1.8?
Try allocating more RAM.
Ehh... no. Optifine hurts in most cases.
Personally, my startup times are increased and my FPS stay the same.
Optifine is not a requirement for Shaders.
Download the shadersmod and put it in your mods folder.
Create a folder in the same place as the mods folder and call it shaderpacks. (Or something like that.)
Download shaders packs and put them in your shaderpacks folder.
My bad. I doubt there's much difference between 7 and 8, but there seems to be a big difference between MC 1.2.5 and 1.4.7.
Ahh, of course. The Multiplayer-Singleplayer merge of 1.3. Yeah, I don't know where you'd find it. Sorry.

I agree. But to hear him tell it, he has the right to crash your game depending on what program you use to start your game.
If nobody mentions G***T*** any more, maybe Greg won't notice and won't make game crash if your mod is installed as well. Who's Greg?
My guess is it's a simple if statement.
if ( whateverwayofcheckingconfigs )
{
hardModeStuff()
}
Of course, just a guess. My java skills are not up there.
