  1. Oh dear...
  2. I don't think Skyrims combat system is deep. I do think it's more immersive. Part of the reason could be the first person camera, and hence a direct view of the action. But also a few other things are smoothed out. Take the hud. In WoW you see your inventory, your spells, etc, right on screen. Those things are tucked in menu's with Skyrim. You also see things like spell cool downs as a timer on a spell, whereas other games show things like that with sounds or motions. Same with buffs and debuffs.
  3. Yep. Personally, WoW combat isn't immersive or engaging in the slightest, and immersion is a big reason I enjoy video games, and especially Bethesda games. In many other aspects too. In Skyrim, or Oblivion, I would just wonder off into the wilds, looking for some interesting ruins, or etc. In many mmo's, you're often limited to areas of your level. If they adopted something similar to the radiant quest system in Skyrim, that could definitely help. But that's ambitious for an mmo. So, I do think this game could be somewhat fun, but I have a feeling it's going to be because it's inside TES universe, rather than the fact that it's an Elder Scrolls game.
  4. Make sure the 'change vanilla spawns' is set to yes, but like Torezu said it probably only affects natural spawning. You'll just have to switch to peaceful and destroy the spawners, or collect the loot.
  5. Re: Esder scrolls MMO Runescape is definitely horrible, but what he said can still apply to other mmo's to a certain extent. You've got to admit that many mmo's focus more on leveling, than a singleplayer rpg does. The reason I personally don't have high hopes for this game is because it will probably end up sacrificing the depth and detail of skyrim, for the scope and size an mmo will require.
  6. It is 100% accurate, but I'm not sure it actually despawns any existing monsters. I would switch to peaceful, then set monster spawn rates to zero, then switch back to hard, or whatever difficulty you want.
  7. If you go into Mo'creatures settings, you should be able to set the spawn rate of monsters to zero. It's found in the 'global mods settings' in the pause menu.
  8. Biggest facepalm of my life... I think they've just raised the bar for incompetence.
  9. Jeb has mentioned an idea of completely removing (or altering) ssp -basically switching over to a game mode similar to smp, where you simply invite friends over to your personal world. Maybe that's why they are ignoring the client side? I have no idea how I feel about that, nor how that would affect ssp mods, or future modding, but it could be interesting, and hopefully if we're lucky, it could actually turn out to be beneficial. :S
  10. I used to play on an rp server, and I ended up making a few character skins. They were fun little projects.
  11. Isn't that pretty much impossible without teleporting yourself there? I would think you'd be spending a few months walking there at least.
  12. A simple way you could raise some money to pay for server costs, would be livestreaming. I've seen a lot of youtubers do special 24 hour livestreams, where the fans and viewers will donate. I know you guys aren't exactly youtubers, but you have to know about a lot of the mods in the technic pack, and besides a technic lp, you could do some mod tutorials, or even visits to tekkit servers. Even livestreaming some art skills would bring in donations. If you do it that way, you're taking donations not only for all the hard work you put into technic and the forums, but also for the entertainment you're bringing with the livestream.
  13. You should just post the challenges here. Others might like to see them too.
  14. YouTube isn't making people stupid, it just makes it more apparent that there are a lot of stupid people. With that said, I just want to point out that evolution, and the passing of traits etc, is a bit more complex than 'stupid people die, giving rise to new smarter generation' with humans.
  15. I've played Minecraft since about August 2010, which seems crazy to think that was nearly two years ago. But, it was about one or two updates before Notch added the Nether, and then a month or two later, Minecraft went into Beta. It's fun to reminisce though, because I was a pretty huge noob for almost a year. I didn't really become informed, competent at the game, or even begin building things until I started playing SMP. In fact, I didn't even know there was SMP until I saw a video on YouTube. I'd experimented early on with multiplayer servers, but back then I think they only had Classic version, which was interesting, but not my thing yet. I also played the "That's what I call Minecraft" pack, although it was for a very brief period, and I don't remember much about it. I then of course tried the yogbox, and technic (probably for minecraft 1.8, or 1.7.3), but I was much more focused in SMP so they weren't really developed experiences. I didn't really get into technic, and start figuring out all the mods, until a month or so ago with the version before 6. Vanilla minecraft has changed enormously since I first started playing, but the main reason I'm playing technic is because it adds so much to the game. It isn't quite the same as playing vanilla for the first time, but the feeling you get when you finally start to understand and master something is a big part of the fun technic brings for me.
  16. I like it too. It has a technic feel, but it's still similar to regular minecraft. Sadly I'm no artist either.
  17. Is that possible? Suckers huge. But if it is, than I know I'd like to see a blueprint too. Editing it in isn't as much fun.
  18. If you're still in need of funds after implementing ads, maybe you could consider a 24 hour livestreaming fundraiser. I've seen a few youtubers do this, where they livestream playing minecraft for 24 hours and fans donate. I think you guys could pull if off; a technic lp, answering questions, and even showing off some art skills. The users are simply donating for the entertainment you're providing right then. You could probably even cap it at a certain amount, or donate a percent to the modders, although imo you guys deserve some extra pocket money for all the effort you've put in and entertainment you've brought users already.
  19. The names are just a coincidence. But anyway, it's probably your ad blocker because there are definitely ads on the forums. They mentioned adding them to help with server costs in a post awhile ago, but I can't find it.
  20. I wouldn't mind. That huge white space actually irks me, so unless it slows down start up a lot, I think it's an effortless way to support the pack. Especially if they're the same ads around the forums, as those are semi-relevant and occasionally interesting.
  21. I think he's talking about the skin showing on the technic launcher. It displays a white square instead of the head, but the rest of the skin is shown just fine. No idea why it does it, but this happened to me with the Spout launcher as well. Perhaps it's just a coding bug.
  22. Re: Metropolis Blog Good luck with the dwarf fortress. I've only discovered a forest dungeon right now, but I'm terrible with it. Must've died close to 20 times now. :-[ :P
