No, I don't think he's old enough to smoke yet.

"Gay" is not a noun.

That error looks like the call is failing not when you issue it but when it's passed from ModLoader to Minecraft. Are you sure you're using the correct version of ModLoader for your version of Minecraft and MCP?

You could have a block that froze/unfroze all water in a pattern, but not one that remembered exactly which blocks were frozen or thawed beforehand. (It would be possible to store such information in the NBT compound, but the block would have no reliable way to track changes to water/ice other than when the redstone state changes.) Also, you would have to come up with some way to control block facing (like Redpower's screwdriver) or otherwise add a UI, to deterine in which direction the block acts.

I guess part of my lack of ability to relate to the position is that I am a loner with strong self-confidence and self-reliance, and I prefer to arrange my world so that I get other people in limited, controlled doses, and not otherwise, so to me, a lack of in-depth personal interaction is a benefit rather than a detriment. That may be too much of a personal bias to overcome.

I don't use that joke as a "women on the Internet don't exist" statement. My experience is that it is difficult to find females on the Internet partly for the reasons pixelkitty states, but also partly because so many "females" on the Internet actually are males, masquerading for one reason or another. And what's the point in caring, anyway? The American military (and Starfleet below the rank of admiral, if you prefer a nerdy reference) uses "sir" gender-neutrally, because it's just not an important distinction. Part of the continued prevalence of sexism is the emphasis on the differences, like how some people get pissed at you if you say "postman" to refer to a female instead of "postwoman" (or even go so far as to want you to say "postperson"), and yet completely neutral words without "man" in them (like "actor" v. "actress") they still get pissed at you for not using. Not that I care who gets pissed at me: I say postman, and I say actor, no matter the gender. If the distinction is important for the conversation, I'll say "female actor" or "male actor", and otherwise I just say "actor" because who the fuck cares. Honestly, I'm surprised when any females -do- make an effort to make others aware of their gender, because I don't see that it serves any purpose. The Internet would be a lot easier to deal with if everyone were a faceless genderless entity and we all dealt with each other based on our beliefs and opinions rather than who we might happen to be (or pretend to be). Everyone has a right to assert their gender if they feel the need, but I just don't personally see the point.

Again, no shit. The problem here is capitalism and greed: For the most part, people are unthinking sheep, and if major market forces and media outlets chose to send a message that it's not optimal to be hormonal drooling twats, then over time, people would change. Hell, even our language is affected by widespread media, causing the elision and erosion of accents nationwide. But it won't happen, for the reason you say. News programs eschew timely and responsible notification for dramatic revelations and ratings. Video games are (for the most part) marketed toward either the hormonal 18-24 male or a stereotypical cutsey-wootsey all-in-pink giggly image of a female. Any game that manages to do something wholly-legitimate and marketed toward what people -could- be, instead of what they are, is to be treasured.

Don't give me that tired old argument of "games aren't realistic so armor shouldn't be realistic either". No shit. I'm not saying armor should be realistic: I'm saying it should be sensical, not fucking farcical. If you have some leather-strapped succubus demon flinging fireballs around, that's one thing, and I approve, but if you have a female paladin with a seven foot sword, a two inch waist, and one square foot of plate metal to spread across her body, it is so jarring and stupid that I don't even enjoy playing or interacting with the character. It is difficult to play games that feel more like fraternity partygames. And "women on the Internet" will continue to be a widespread joke at least as long as major game developers continue to act like little boys who just discovered tits.

Well, there really aren't any issues of compatibility. And it can in fact be done with only one block ID, but it's non-trivial coding. Most of the coding is algorithms and data structures, though, and not actually dealing with Minecraft's classes at all other than the actual rendering and a few data-storage bits, so it's a very doable project, if the lighting issue is ignored as unimportant. If I ever feel like modding again, I'll certainly give it a shot, but if in the mean time somebody else reliable and ambitious decides they want to try, I could make a lengthy and detailed forum posting with all of what I've discovered so far, and they can take it from there.

Apparently, the switch in forum software cured me of my sociopathy and deviance. If only all of the world's problems were so easily corrected.

Are you both talking to me or somebody else? It hadn't occurred to me before, but I wonder how many people assume I'm female because of my avatar. Or assume I'm gay, or six years old. (I'm none of the three, by the way.)

ChickenBones: Least mature/complete, most complex, requires additional exectuables instead of just modifying the .jar, most robust, can basically do anything to anything, potential to eliminate most baseclass-altering mod incompatibilities. Risugami: Most mature/complete, least complex, smallest footprint, the bread-and-butter of modding. Forge: Newest, partially still an idea, middling complexity, potential to remove an installation step if it merges with Risugami's as well as bring Forge into more peoples' .jars if successful. MCP: Very specialized solution, still in partial development, designed to be a whole different way to create mods if the ML+Forge method is too difficult for you or you just don't lke it, more of a development library or even IDE than ML+Forge (which are just APIs).
-
ChickenBones, Risugami, Forge, and MCP all have semi-competitive modloaders that overlap but still serve different purposes and needs. It's not really as simple as one dropping in or out.
-
Good luck with that, champ. If we can't even get every Minecraft mod-user to install Forge (or even ModLoader, for pity's sake), I'd love to see how many people you convince to install and use your lighting system+API (not to mention getting modders to support it). No way in hell would you ever be able to rewrite Minecraft lighting in such a way that it wouldn't break existing mods, unless you kept your changes so small as to be irrelevant.
-
Actually, no, that's idiotic. "Armorkinis" piss me off because they're so blatant and useless; If you want plate-metal pasties, go download some porn and get your dick out of my video games. I forgive it a bit more for spellcasters, because robes actually are not ideal unless you are standing still, but even then something like a leather bodysuit would be much more realistic for maximum protection from both damage and weather while still not hindering flexibility, mobility, visibility, or concentration.

Always be skeptical of a female on the Internet until you see his profile picture.

For the love of god, use punctuation. I could not make it halfway through your post before feeling dizzy, so I stopped and don't care.

Gibbycraft Mod / Aragami Mod (waiting for 1.6 to come out)
jakj replied to Gibbynator's topic in Modders Metropolis
What an...informative and useful posting. We now know that you are making a mod; Congratulations. I guess? (Give me a second, here: I'm working my enthusiasm level up for something that I don't know anything about and does not exist yet.) -
True enough, I'll admit. Especially considering what happened between her and Tom while they were...um, under the influence.
-
I didn't like her because she acted like a stern and uppity old grandmother a lot of the time. Which I'm sure is how she actually felt, and pretty much how she needed to act to keep that wandering daycare from exploding any day, but still. Sometimes, she just sounded a little too enthusiastic about expressing just how much pressure she was under and how much responsibility she was forced to endure, almost as if she were bragging about being so miserable. It's a pity, because you saw such a more relaxed Janeway without her layers of admiralty captaincy, when she thought she was indefinitely quarantined with Chakotay. I liked her, then.

(How do you shrink images now? The width= argument to the IMG tag doesn't work.

The beefucker doesn't use adf.ly either. The modders who use adf.ly but bitch about Technic are not actually the ones causing trouble, and their mods are still in. So far, the only shitnadoes that have occurred have all been by pure ego.
