  1. thanks for the info. one thing though, there is actually a download link for the launcher on the front page. obviously that's not what you were seeing there with the ad and such, but it does exist
  2. seems like there's still some issues with the rendering code. try this one last thing: reinstall tekkit completely, then copy the forge files you have into the modpack.jar, replacing everything. see if that works.
  3. basically, yeah. it's rather depressing to me, but it's how it is. this is a client configuration problem more than a server problem. sometimes, people will have gotten .jar associated with an archiving program, like winrar or 7zip by accident. jar files really are rar files with java stuff in them, nothing more, so this is why that happens.
  4. ooooh, I see what's going on here. I was kinda hoping this wouldn't happen =/ ok so here is the problem: optifine and forge have a bit of overlap, and those overlaps are merged together normally. removing the optifine files also removed some of forge, which breaks things. in order to fix that, you will need to get the specific build tekkit uses of forge (not super difficult, they archive them all), and replace the files that are now gone because of optifine. this will be made a little easier by the fact that you can simply throw all the forge files into modpack.jar and tell winrar to not replace existing files. hopefully that should fix what's broken.
  5. I'm going to let you in on a sad, sad reality: the vast majority of people on any given minecraft forum are anywhere from 11-17 years old and act like they are 5. parenting basically doesn't exist for them and if you try to be nice about things, you will end up with the MCF. we hate the MCF and how they are run. this is a community for those who wish to be able to talk to others in a real and intelligent way. people stay here because the children are not allowed to run roughshod over everything. because of how the internet is, we are forced to take a really, really hard line lest the line simply evaporate. it's even more important when you consider the demographic this forum attracts.
  6. it should, optifine is not required per-se. can you post your logs after it has done this? preferably using pastebin or similar? edit: also, I'm going to be leaving here shortly, so I won't be able to respond as quickly after I do.
  7. there's a certain kind of attitude we want people to have here. it's not that mistakes are the end of your existence and if you break a single rule you will be banned. breaking a rule results in merely a warning, and for most things it takes multiple warnings for anything at all to happen to you (i.e. kellering). the key is in how you react to being warned. if the user says, "oh man, you're right I'll stop doing x" where x is whatever was the problem, they will get along just fine around here. if a user responds with "OMG WHY IS THAT A RULE I'M NOT AT FAULT FOR BREAKING THE CLEARLY STATED RULES THAT I DON'T LIKE YOU SHOULD BE BANNED/FUCK OFF/WHATEVER!", then they get ridicule and more warnings. the way I like to describe it is that who you are doesn't matter, it's what you say and the ideas you bring that count here. ego has little place here.
  8. yes, that will do it.
  9. mostly that is the point. however, when people do stupid things, like the OP, they get made fun of wherever they happen to be.
  10. these forums are entirely about taking the piss out of people who deserve it. worthless threads are recycled into at least amusing ones in this manner.
  11. hmm are you using the correct optifine version? by that I mean the one for version 1.2.5 of minecraft. I haven't checked to see if optifine for 1.3 is out, but I would guess that it is. be sure you're using the right one. if that does not work, removing it would be the next thing to try. in order to remove the mod, you would have to look at the files contained in the optifine archive (it's important that you have the 1.2.5 version of optifine for this as well) and then remove the files that have the same name from modpack.jar. the names will be nonsense like aax.class, bdw.class, etc.
  12. you need to extract the files, then put them into the .jar with something like winrar. the .jar file you are going to be putting them in is called "modpack.jar", be sure you put them in this file and not minecraft.jar or it will not work.
  13. screenshot probably not needed if it's optifine, so don't worry about it too much for now. for reference, I think the f2 key takes a screenshot. moving on to optifine, you can find the modpack.jar here: %appdata%\.techniclauncher\tekkit\bin I believe. I'm not at a computer with technic installed currently, but if the "bin" folder doesn't have it, it's either just in the tekkit folder or somewhere in there. are you familiar with adding files to a .jar?
  14. ironically, by posting in the correct place he's actually getting the help he is seeking over there.
  15. what a tweeeeeest!
  16. ok, how about CPU load? could you post a screenshot of the f3 screen when it's in the middle of slowing down? you don't mention any AV programs in the OP, do you have any? edit: removing or perhaps using a different optifine may be a solution. IIRC tekkit ships with the S (or smooth) variant of optifine which causes issues on some setups. since removing optifine is harder than replacing it, try installing the vanilla version of optifine into your modpack.jar additional edit: now that you mention the optifine, I recall having similar issues myself at one point which made me need to use the normal version.
  17. I don't have the links offhand, but I'll work with you in your thread.
  18. alright, so this only happens in multiplayer. if you're already operating on 512MB, was it doing the same with 1 gig as well? also, did you change anything about your computer around the time this started happening? like adding a firewall, changing network cards, etc? oh also, hit f3 when in game and see what the memory usage is doing when the slowdown starts to happen
  19. for the record, I've answered that question personally at least 5 times that I can think of off the top of my head. I just did so again. you're welcome.
  20. how much RAM do you have and how much are you allocating to MC? I see that you're on a 32-bit OS, so try lowering the amount allocated. yes, I know it doesn't sound intuitive that it would help, but it often does
  21. yes. it's no different than normal minecraft. your account should not be able to go from premium to non premium. last I checked this was a buy once, own forever type proposition. if this really happened, email mojang about it.
  22. pretty much this. despite having a special form that asks for all the relevant info people still don't provide it. additionally, many questions are answered in the stickies.
  23. yes. it does the same login check that the vanilla launcher does.
  24. I've warned you multiple times for signing your posts. we don't have signatures here for a reason. that reason isn't so that people can manually write one every time.
  25. not only will using java 6 cause even more problems, you should really not sign your name. the fact that it is so long that to forum software doesn't even display it all should give you a some hint that maybe you should look into coming up with a better one. OP, something is blocking your connection to minecraft.net somehow from the looks of things. make sure any firewalls, proxies, and/or web filters are disabled.
