  1. Actually could you please explain that? I run the game with 8GB dedicated and it runs beautifully, my massive logistic system required it. but then again I am running at top end alienware with java 64bit so it can probably can handle it better, but I would be very interested to read your take on this

    Thanks

the reason has to do with garbage collection and how java handles memory. when memory is allocated, it stays that way until a certain amount of time has passed, or an upper limit of allocated memory is reached. at that point, the garbage collector does what it does best, collect garbage. it goes through all available memory and frees any that is no longer in use so it can be made available to the application once again. this all happens seamlessly in the background. once you get over a few gigs of memory, that process starts taking longer and longer as it has more and more memory to clean. unless you're running a large server with many players and/or loaded chunks, 8gb is overkill on a massive scale no matter the size of your logic system.

  2. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade the macbook Pro yet. I still have somethings I need to be able to access for work that are not mavericks compatible. :( So I need at least one computer that is still on 10.8 until that gets remedied.

Currently SOME mods are working through tekkit. Neither OS seems to like Tekkit much because most mods are NOT working. So I think tekkit is not the answer for us, even when I AM able to upgrade the laptop to Mavericks. makes me wonder why there even IS a mac download for it.

I'm Computer Seciency enough that I understand how things work.I've tried to install the mods manually. I believe I have everything in the correct Library folders, but the game doesn't recognize them. If anyone could help me get that ironed out it would be a good solution for us too.

whoops, didn't read the OP carefully enough apparently. in that case, the only recourse is simply fullscreening the window using fn+f11 on most laptops. sometime it's overridden to simply maximize the window and not fullscreen it, which may need to be disabled first. edit: once you get in-game, you can go into options and toggle fullscreen to on, that should cause it to fullscreen automatically once it reaches the main menu. depending on your laptop, that may take several minutes.

as for some mods not working or showing up, could you expound on that a bit? do you mean not appearing in the launcher, or in game? which mods? all of them should work, even on mountain lion. I've done it personally.

lastly, the reason there's a mac download is because the game is compatible with macs, as are all the mods in it. the window issue you're having is not actually a problem with tekkit, it's a problem with older macOS java VMs and LWJGL, a library that minecraft uses. there's not much we can do to change it on our end, unfortunately.

  3. JUST installed java last night. So I assume that it's the latest version.

It IS working on the computer running Mavericks. NOT working on the one running Mountain Lion.

the issue is the version of macOS. that's why it works on the mavericks mac, while not on the mountain lion one. update macOS.

edit: and don't max out your ram usage, it will cause more issues than it solves. 2-2.5GB MAX is more than you should need allocated to the game, even for a pack like big dig with tons of mods. increasing it past that will actually slow the game down due to how java works. I'd go into more detail but it's complicated and very computer sciencey no matter how you slice it.

  4. this is the wrong place for help with launcher problems. try the launcher bug board for that, I hear that's what it's for.

also, make sure you disable your firewall (or exempt java, if you know how) and if you have a program installed called "relevantKnowledge" remove it.

alternatively, minecraft's servers could have been getting hammered over christmas.

  5. Without admin intervention, no. And you aren't the first person to ask, I know they refused the last guy

well, the last guy I remember did get a name change. it just wasn't what he really wanted....

  6. for the most part, criticism that is deserved isn't a problem. the only times it is is when the person doing the criticizing is like "HEY MAN, FUCK YOU YA DICKBAG! HOW ABOUT YOU GO EAT A BAG OF DICKS WHILE REREADING THE SERVER POST RULES, NUBCAKE! SNAP! EPIC BURN!"

you get what I mean. you can tell someone they're out of line without resorting to overly inflammatory invective.

  7. Thumbs up. and this also means...That they can take mods That they personally like and incorporate it into their game willing.

So...possibly more reliable "mods" which wont be "mods" anymore cuz they would be part of core minecraft. meaning more support

they've always had this power. see pistons, hoppers, and to a lesser extent horses.

can't wait for this to sink in for the internet lawyer modder's rights "mah copyrights!" types. the butthurt will be massive I think.

  8. Any tools you write for the Game from scratch belong to you. . Modifications to the Game ("Mods") (including pre-run Mods and in-memory Mods) and plugins for the Game also belong to you and you can do whatever you want with them, as long as you don‘t sell them for money / try to make money from them. We have the final say on what constitutes a tool/mod/plugin and what doesn‘t.

I think that's the part that applies to mods. the content bit seems to be talking about posts and whatnot like the game is some kind of message board or facebook or something. not sure what that's supposed to be about.

the good news is that at least adfly is basically forbidden now. so that's a step in the right direction.

  9. Well i need a admin because i realised mods can't edit or ban in most servers, forums.

So... A mod can't really help in this situation. So i need a admin >.> .

if you're looking for some kind of support for something that happened on a tekkit server somewhere, you are barking up the wrong tree completely. no one on the technic team has the ability to mess with servers run by other people, and technic doesn't run any "official" servers. that means if you are looking to, say, get unbanned or get someone else banned from a minecraft server you are out of luck.

if you're looking to get something done on the forums themselves. specifically THESE forums, then a mod like myself can handle it. we're not limited to what sections we can moderate here.

  10. the trick for using them with technic is to stop the launcher from relaunching itself and clearing your command line stuff. in order to stop this, you have to first create a directory in the .techniclauncher folder called "rtemp", then run the launcher with your desired proxy options.

this trick no longer works on the current launcher. there will be some functionality added to pass command line args like this to minecraft when launched, but there's no ETA on that currently.

  11. Its actually not really optional, it is part of the rules to not ask when updates might come. But like Freak said, its basically been replaced as a pack.

indeed. the older packs like tekkit lite or tekkit classic are kept around for legacy reasons. fun fact: tekkit classic is still super popular even today. we're not into taking things that people are enjoying away from them when we can avoid it.

  12. People know McDonalds because of their shitty burgers, Fazer because of their delicious chocolate, Nokia because of their boots, clothing brands because of their clothing and so on. I know that none of their products could exist without other peoples' inventions, but "Technic" is a pack that consists almost entirely of other peoples work. It's not a case of "x wouldn't exist without y which x didn't create", it's a case of "x IS y, and x didn't create it".

And I just wanna make it clear: I'm not trying to downplay the amazing work done with the packs and the launcher and the site and the platform etc., I just wanna eloborate on my reasoning behind the stance.

technic is more than just the mods in the packs. it is the work put into selecting, configuring, and massaging them to create a superior minecraft experience. it is the time spent creating tool like the launcher and platform to make playing modded MC as simple and straightforward as possible. it is the hosting, servers, and other infrastructure that runs behind the scenes to keep that experience as problem free as possible. hell, some of the mods in technic packs are literally made by technic team members. (an obsidian plate and simple energy storage in tekkit, some of the hexxit mods as well)

when technic was just a rar file on mediafire or whatever, you might have had more of a point. it's so much more than that now.
