  1. Yep the giant ones Mynd. That's what I assumed you meant from the start. The server I play on is down at the moment but I live next to a jungle full of them. And the land was generated that way. Edit: in fact i have a mine that uses the trunk of one of them as an entrance. Being 3x3 they are great to hollow out. Think I will try your patient method of growing one. Because until now I thought you couldn't grow them.
  2. Really ? Iv'e seen jungles full of red power trees. All over the place. Never seen an IC2 rubber tree in a jungle though.
  3. As the server has been down for some time I am guessing someone has PM'ed KS. Can we establish a set of actions pls. If you pm KS about server being offline pls make a quick post saying so. Otherwise he either ends up getting the message 20 times or not at all. btw I just I mailed KS... " But I thought you called an ambulance " !
  4. Oh god, was making loads of base materials for stock items in shop :(
  5. ok, well thx for the info. If you are on the case and you are confident you have solid leads as to the problems then there's no more need for the "imo, I think" posts. I leave it in the teams hands Gonna go play some ssp and try to learn more about turtles Just one more thing. if server goes up can someone post the news. As I have it set up to ping me of new posts. thx.
  6. imo screw giving people notice. Turn all tethers, anchors etc to dirt. Then see if it has any noticable effect. It's either ghost players land being loaded 24/7 or a ghost players build dropping items all over the place. Either way if their land is not loaded it can't drop stuff. Might wanna check how many pedestals are in game too. Could set one up in a mine with a full chest and have hundreds of items flying around the full chest with a void ring on pedestal. Tht of course would be a deliberate act of sabotage.
  7. ok could of sworn it was up later than that but your prob' right. all the downtime is just merging into one in my memory now:) BTW, noticing that it seems to crash when it reaches around 14 players. anyone else notice anything similar ? It crashed today when 3-4 people joined within a few minutes of each other.
  8. Down again ! same time as yesterday as well was it not ? Do you by any chance have any scheduled tasks on your system at that time ?
  9. No one answered my question yesterday regarding automated restarts at set intervals.... I see this in other game servers all the time, normally a server restarts about every four hours or so. Mainly to clear loose entities, memory leaks and lag etc. But I have no idea if it's possible to do with minecraft. I'm not suggesting this as a full time thing but if possible it would help us get through the present set of problems with less downtime if the server could be set to restart several times in a 24 hour period. There may not even be n option for this... I don't know, that's why I'm throwing it out there. Edit: found this with a quick google. But I will be honest I don't understand it Or know if it's compatible with tekkit. But I can't believe there isn't something out there. http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/admn-remotetoolkit-r10-a13-restarts-crash-detection-auto-saves-remote-console-1-3-1.674/ Found more stuff I don't understand... http://plugins.bukkit.org/#ti=restart&ta=all&au=&subm=false&pno=0 BTW I like the idea of a plugin that restricts what new players can build. If they can't go a week or 2 without being able to make a MkII etc then they are in the server for the wrong reasons. The right people will realise they have hit upon a server that is about community and will stick out any probationary term. Too many new players are dropping tethers and then never return but leaving their lands loaded for evermore.
  10. Never knew that. Sounds good that you can assign a limit to a player. Maybe players only get use of it after they have shown they are active then you don't get the chunks loaded by ghost players. And is there such a thing as a plugin that will monitor where the cpu is being used on the map or what items are using it etc ? Only as a temporary instalment obviously just to diagnose some of the issues. Otherwise we may end up calling for items to be restricted when they have no effect on the problem. Chunk loading items obviously need no proof of impact. Everyone knows more chunks loaded = more work for server. Also if you do go down the route of restricting tethers etc. please use the block ID to change the existing ones to dirt first. then start laying down fresh ones. that way you clear all the unaccounted ones of the map.
  11. Regarding banning items. I see your point but that's punishing good players when we only need to get rid of the bad or selfish imo. As for tethers. I suggested a while back every one gets given 2 when joining server and crafting is disabled. That way you can still use your tp pipes etc. But you can't bog down the server by having a tether next to any, and every sodding thing you build. Also I think you would have to blind, stupid, or both to not realise duping is going on. It's too easy to go down the route of banning items. People will still find ways around things. You need to ban selfish players instead of items. When we have a core of players who play regularly and the online player count reaches it's max. Maybe it would be time to prune the whitelist. Because I think people join, put down a crapton of tethers and machines and then dont log in anymore. So as a result the server is supporting much more than than the actual players who are active. (ghost players) who although not active still use the servers cpu etc.
  12. Can't reach server. Sorry I should of refreshed b4 posting. Also been doing a lot of reading up. Most people agree that a big cause of lag can be misuse of BC pipes. The spills obviously we know about, but also just the huge amount of items passing through them when you get a bunch of people on a server all using quarry's etc can cause a huge load. Not a problem in itself but when they all run 24/7 it is. Was also reading about EE farms in general. These seem to have a weak spot and that's the condenser part of the build. I guess it has a ton of calculations to do and when you get dozens of them going...... If you have a field of condensers running 24/7 that's a crap load of calculations every second. Just be reasonable when building and realise any server has limited resources. No one wants anything banned. But we need to restrict ourselves a little. And as people get richer they just seem to expand and expand on their original build. Most likely wasting my time, as it only takes a few inconsiderate selfish people to monopolise all the server cpu power for themselves and screw everyone else attitude to make the whole system unworkable. Sorry for rant but even with all the downtime and rants some people just still don't get it. Either that or they don't have the maturity to play on an unrestricted server. Also is there anyway to automate a server restart every 4 hours or so ? Restarts can help refresh a server and also might help at the moment while we have issues.
  13. Can I suggest a temp' MOTD when loging into the server directing people to the first page rules update. A lot of people don't visit the forum often. And it will avoid any "I didn't know" .
  14. other servers were up during that time and our server was unreachable.
  15. Same place your fps took a dive last night. Something in, or near the chunks of the forcefield farms. West. I saw something in chat today about a badly designed power system somewhere there. Causing loops. No idea though if that has any relevance.
  16. There's an area of the map that as soon as you get near it your fps drops. In one of the houses nearby is something that causes that. It's like it has it's own sodding event horizon. Sucking in all resources until the universe implodes. OK own up ! who made a tekkit black hole in their basement ? :p
  17. Yep, what Cloneco said. A few of us were looking at the chunk from hell. A few minutes later the server gave up.
  18. You can always look at the dynamap where Milworkz will tell what a wonderful lag free time he is having with the server all to himself. Such a pity you can't nuke from orbit.
  19. There is nothing wrong with home servers. We would have these issues even if it were a paid for host because something is sucking up the resources, and it wouldn't matter if you had the most powerful server going. All it would mean is it would take longer to get to the point where it couldn't cope. And anyway we are getting ahead of ourselves as those are personal decisions. We play on a server as invited guests by someone who does what we can't be arsed to do, or afford to do, or maybe both. The remote starting app sounds ideal but yeah the prices of some of those apps are insulting. Being able to do restarts would be cool. But in the short term the underlying problem needs to be found. Getting rid of those anchors is a good start imo otherwise the new hardware KS is willing to buy will go to waste if the problems can't be found. I think we are going to have to admit to ourselves that some in game sacrifices are needed. Even if a couple of items were removed as far as I can see this server would still have more freedom than anything else out there. There are some things that cause problems that the fun they give in return can't be justified. I for one know I would much prefer to be online with a few missing items rather than posting crap on a forum.
  20. Just a note on TWOFT. Whenever someone does use one, apart from the obvious dangers time never seems to get back to normal again afterwards for a long time. The sun / moon stutters across the sky, taking the occasional step backwards. I'm not the only person to have noticed this. This is different behaviour from the normal smp quirks associated with the movement of the heavens.
  21. Regarding Anchors. It is possible that there could be any unknown number still out there on the map for several reason. Lot's of players who may have placed several each and no longer log on. But mostly because of the poor particle effect they use to locate them is next to useless unless you happen to be standing on one. These need to be kept in game for several reasons. But maybe change the id and revert them all to dirt blocks then do a map save. Then re launch and with crafting disabled the admin can place down those that are needed in the places needed. I think that's the only way your going to clear up the anchors because manual removal is not practical for reasons stated. This will of course need a scheduled downtime to achieve. Just remembered also. There was some talk in chat about someone using the watch of flowing time. I didn't see any evidence of this though while I was online. Edit: Just thought if it was an issue like undetected anchors, would the problems not be showing themselves all the time ? We have an issue that seems to grow with time untill eventually the server can no longer cope. If it was too many chunks loaded there would be lag and issues the moment it starts up no ? Is the server generating Error reports when it crashes ?
  22. Yep i thought exactly the same that maybe someone who only plays at weekends has a build that unintentionally causes issues. An hour or 2 before server went down lag began to affect several people at different times. But there seemed to be no pattern. People began to have issues where the actual launcher would close on them which is pretty odd. Not sure how many this happened to but I saw it a few times in chat. There were a good a mount of people online, around 14 I think. Apart from the build up of lag there was no real warning or indication of problems when the server gave up. Edit: to Tub, I started using that pic on a forum when I played Dayz. (zombie apoc' survival game) I kinda just kept using it. But that's the reason for it :)
  23. Anyone else not able to reach server ? Edit: Post above appeared while I was posting. Sigh, Server down again :(
