This thread still going huh. As pointed out comparing the 2 different styles is pointless. But that said, the op asked the question so I will answer. Direwolf20 for all the reasons mentioned in previous posts for me. I used to watch Simon n Lewis but tbh I don't anymore. It's not because they are getting stale, it's because I find they have changed from their early days. There is an undertone now that they are somehow crucial to Minecraft and very important. At least that's what I take away from their vids these days. To me it seems like they equate the number of subscribers to some kind of real world currency that gives them some perceived ownership of "Minecraft". You may not see it this way, as I said, that's what I take away from their vids these days. In comparison, Direwolf20 plays with Devs modders and other well known youtubers. And as a result arguably has much more influence than the yogs, and yet he displays no arrogance or any sign of inflated ego. Add to this I find his vids more rewarding, then for me it's an easy choice.

He won't be Twelve forever At least he has a chance, and will get older. Some "adults" though will remain morons. As for pay to play. I don't think that's any guarantee whatsoever as people who are in it for the love are far more likely to provide a better environment and care about what happens on their server.

On a related note, maybe try and encourage your players to set their quarrys up under ground. 10 blocks below the surface is more than enough. You only need clear a small 3x3 for the quarry to be placed and then x2 corridors of from that point to set down your landmarks. The quarry will then clear it's own operating space and there is no visible sign of anything industrial on the surface leaving the landscape as it was.

Just a side note on drowning... Charm of vigor which is part of Thaumcraft prevents drowning. You have to research the item though before you are able to craft it. It takes damage over time but can be repaired using talisman of repair or with Covalence dust. Charm of vigor is very useful indeed when working in submerged areas and making bases such as the one you are planning. It also sustains the body, meaning you never need to take on food again.
