I'm at work right now, but I'll read through these posts as soon as I get home and make sure the server is back up ASAP. I've also looked into dimensional anchors myself, and I can tell you that I'm considering switch to them exclusively. Likewise, I may get a permissions plugin installed soon to limit the types of items new players can build (specifically anchors, tethers, and the MkII/ MkIII collectors). FYI, if you guys need to get a hold of me, I get email alerts when I get PM's, so feel free to contact me that way, I should be able to respond pretty quickly that way.

I can tell you right now, I definitely won't be switching to a hosting service. As far as controlling it remotely, I actually already use LogMeIn to access my home server, but I haven't purchased the Android app for it yet (it's overpriced ). I may consider doing that soon though so that I can restart it remotely (the browser version is virtually impossible to use on my phone). I can tell you that I'm strongly considering banning some of the more troublesome items, and I probably will use MCEdit to remove existing world anchors in the near future. I am also definitely going to be building a new server soon, although I have yet to decide if it will be now or if I will wait until Black Friday. I'll update with a little more info when I get home.

As of right now, there are none, but I may decide to implement some since we've been having issues with both lag and players getting killed and not being able to retrieve their items. Also, the server is back up. APPARENTLY someone ran a program in ComputerCraft that wasn't coded correctly, and it locked up the server...

I noticed people putting up force fields in the last two days, so that may be a large part of the issue. I can tell you world generation is NOT the issue. Exploring and generating new chunks DOES eat up processing power, but it's not much compared to how much the machines/ anchors use. I've been at work, but I'll take a look at the server when I get back home.

Your name got removed when I rolled the server back, but I readded you earlier today. You should be able to log on fine now . I added a couple more people that applied, but I should warn anyone that has applied or is thinking about applying, if you just give me one short sentence about why you want to join, you PROBABLY aren't going to get whitelisted.

Right now, we've basically got things back to normal. Epyon, Garret and I are going to be working on getting rid of some of the major sources of lag (we already found and fixed a few big issues involving item overflows with Buildcraft pipes), so we're going to keep the current world. I already disabled the crafting of nukes and world anchors, so hopefully we won't have any more issues with either of those. For those of you building on the server, PLEASE try to avoid building lag heavy machines - try to use RP tubes as much as possible, avoid overflow with Buildcraft pipes, and put a toggle lever on redstone circuitry so that you can turn it off while you're offline. Edit: I also whitelisted a few new people.

So a couple of people have brought up the idea of starting a new world due to the amount of problems that we've been having with the current world (world anchors that haven't been removed, nukes having to be patched up, clusterf**k of a spawn area). I would be willing to do it, but only if the majority of the people who have been here a while are ok with it. It seems like most of the newer players are ok with the idea, but I don't want to do anything before getting opinions from the veterans. I can give players some of their stuff back or even transfer over inventories if people would like, but once again, I want to get some more feedback before doing anything. It's definitely a map issue, I tried starting 2 fresh worlds and there were absolutely NO issues. As far as people running around bored and doing random stuff, that's half the reason I'm tempted to disable Energy Collectors beyond Mk1. Once you can basically spawn yourself tons of Red Matter, the game basically goes into creative mode, and the less creative minds start running around doing annoying crap because they can't think of anything else to do. Granted, it comes down to the individual players more than anything, which is why I haven't done it yet. The World Anchors may just be due to the fact that a lot of the people that have placed them aren't on that often and haven't gotten around to removing theirs yet (either that, or they just don't WANT to remove them).

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing a few people's bases last night with tons of items overflowing out of pipes and stuff, I wonder if that could be part of the problem. Either way, I'm testing earlier backups right now to see if they work. EDIT: I found a working backup from last night right before I logged off. It looks like something must have happened right after I got off, because all of the other backups aren't working.

I've already reset the server, the router, the computer, and removed and reenabled the port forwarding. I'm starting to think it's an issue with the server itself, especially since the server is taking an ABNORMALLY long time to stop when I try to stop it. Does anyone know what time the server crashed at? I can try reverting to the last backup before it crashed and see what happens.

The server is back up, and it should be up for the foreseeable future . I worked out the kinks in my router, and I think I have everything fixed with the server itself. Once again, I apologize for the downtime, I didn't expect to run into all of these issues . I'll finally be going through any applications that have been posted in the last 2 days or so, I've been slightly preoccupied with getting the server back up and running . Edit: I whitelisted a bunch of people that applied over the last 2-3 days, so please check again to see if you have been whitelisted. Sorry about the delayed response to the applications, I've been busy dealing with some server issues.
