I have everything needed for downloading any of the mods, but when i try to play nothing happens

so whenever I download a mod and press play nothing happens, I have java downloaded, a premium Minecraft account, and a brand new windows 8 computer. Whats the problem?

Issues with downloading Technic packs (Tekkit / Lite / Classic, Hexxit, Attack of the B-team) belongs on the Tracker. Read the Tracker Rules before submitting your report

 

Issues with downloading custom packs (anything you found on the Platform) belongs to the modpack author, contact them.

 

Cafe Lame is the wrong place for either, this gets locked.
