I cant make a nether portal

I'm on a server of a few people and non of us ca find out how to make the nether portal work, whenever we try to light it it wont work.

They don't work.  You don't go to the nether in this pack.

To get Nether stuff follow the geologist and scout quest line, they suggest places to get the required ores

So until I reach that quest I cant go to the nether?

Again, there is no Nether.

But, if you follow those quests, you'll reach an area that will have those materials.
