Here's a picture of what pm'ing a book to the face would look like (couldn't find one on the internet, so I snapped a picture of s picture in a book, and cropped that. Kudos to you if you can tell me what book it's from!)

Are there any rules about trying to keep on topic? Isn't this supposed to be forum about technical problems, and not about taking the piss out of somebody, who if I understand it correctly, has lost the right of reply?

The OP hasn't lost the right of reply... He can post as much as he wants

HE lost the right to reply by being a douchebag. There are no rules about trolling and insulting. In fact, it is encouraged that you troll idiots who don't bother to take the time to read the rules. When I say insulting is allowed though, I don't mean going "Go die! You're a faggot!" which is what this guy did. He also broke several other rules.

these forums are entirely about taking the piss out of people who deserve it. worthless threads are recycled into at least amusing ones in this manner.

Oh sorry, I thought they were entirely (in the technical sections) about seeking and offering help with technical problems.

Nope you were wrong.

mostly that is the point. however, when people do stupid things, like the OP, they get made fun of wherever they happen to be.

Me, Jorcer, and Ashzification, with some help from Freakachu, Munas, and assorted others, dealt with it. I'll make sure to invite you too the party (read: incredibly humorous thread) next time.

Seriously? You could spell the bride's name but not mine?

Glad you have proven in this very thread that you are in fact the sole person who is kitty jail worthy. Your defiance of the MANDATORY READING (ie. RULES) is absolutely staggering. I am floored by your lack of common sense and politeness. Also, if in the future I am ever in s cursing contest with a sailor, I will be sure to post a fraudulent bug report directed at gaining your help and advice. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

Not one to share the same feelings the OP had about you. But you do give a certain vibe to backseating mods, bride.

Just a friendly reminder, breath... take it slow. I know you like helping people, I know the feeling you get when someone sends a "thanx!" (actually I dont, Im a troll after all).

I will praise the day when/if you will become a mod, then you and me can be like Tom 'n' Jerry. Me smashing rules and you chasing me :)

Well I'm not going to defend the offensive language of the banned Chubs, but when a noobie joins with a problem, they seem to get quite aggressive responses from established members here. I would imagine its putting off people from joining, and quite intimidating. That can't be good for the overall health of the community or the "product".

No, we are only aggresive when they refuse to read the rules. Especially since the rules are at the top of the page in the MANDATORY READING board, which has the caption "Read the rules or Get Bent. Whichever." They chose to get bent.

Ummm I would argue the contrary, it keeps the people who don't take time to learn the rules and how things work out and those that do (the ones we want) get to stay.

I can honestly say that I have never joined a board Like this where people mainly become members (I would imagine) because they need help, but are made to feel so unwelcome if they stray less than inch off the rules.

The way I see it, most people get "ticked" off when being told - you posted on wrong thread - you didn't submit enough info - we dont understand your problem, what is this "vinnila" you speak of?

These people believe that you can simply post and get instant help without taking the time to read stickies and older threads.

Some have said they originate from MCF, I don't know if that is true. Never had the chance to put a cow bell on those banned users and listened where they gone to...

For some kellers, posting a thread that took about 10-20 mins equals hard work, and therefore they cant stand being criticized for it.

These are impatient users, this forum will blossom very happily without them (and sometimes, with them)

there's a certain kind of attitude we want people to have here. it's not that mistakes are the end of your existence and if you break a single rule you will be banned. breaking a rule results in merely a warning, and for most things it takes multiple warnings for anything at all to happen to you (i.e. kellering). the key is in how you react to being warned. if the user says, "oh man, you're right I'll stop doing x" where x is whatever was the problem, they will get along just fine around here.

if a user responds with "OMG WHY IS THAT A RULE I'M NOT AT FAULT FOR BREAKING THE CLEARLY STATED RULES THAT I DON'T LIKE YOU SHOULD BE BANNED/FUCK OFF/WHATEVER!", then they get ridicule and more warnings. the way I like to describe it is that who you are doesn't matter, it's what you say and the ideas you bring that count here. ego has little place here.

But I matter more than at least one person right?

Maybe due to my age, I am used the old-fashioned ways of gently encouraging people to modify their behaviour, and politely suggesting that they haven't noticed some of the ground rules, seeing the value of nurturing any new members to my community, instead of immediately getting on their case and treating them like retards.

But hey this isn't my community, and I'm trying hard to follow the rules. But they do seem rather unusual and aggressive when people who join are seeking help, and thus implicitly admitting that they already have a problem!
