Ysharma Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 eating lunch om nom nom. who's cj and why does he not like you
nedned2k Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Here's the issue. I'm already on CJ's bad side, and when I start telling modders about use, we'll have to take out mods. When we don't, the DRM gets shoveled on us. Aka, NO. And if we don't tell people? What happens when someone who's a little overprotective about their mod finds out that it's being used in a pack that doesn't care about modders? This isn't a matter of having permission, I could care less if some arrogant modder thought we shouldn't use their mod. This is a matter of being kind. The whole issue of permission arose because people didn't communicate, and listen to what each other wanted, and it became this whole ragefest that I'm sure nobody misses. I'm not saying that we should cater to every modder's whim, I'm saying that we should be considerate towards the ones that haven't pissed anyone off, and at least give all modders a chance to have a good relationship with us, rather than leave them in the dark.
Mooseman9 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Who said we never cared? Just because andrew doesn't want to go through the dumb process to get stupid permissions, doesn't mean that we won't care about the mods.
andrewdonshik Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 So, essentially it's a lose-lose situation. Except it takes longer for one of the loses to kick in. Guess which one it is.
Mooseman9 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 The pack is severely buggy. I can't even log into the server, as it crashes the whole game when I try to log in. Checked the logs, appears to be Crossbow Mod that's causing the problem. Any way to fix it, or can we remove it?
Mooseman9 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Wow, I forgot to do that when I updated to the official launcher release. I thought it would carry over from the beta. EDIT: Works like a charm. Thanks Ysharma.
nedned2k Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Who said we never cared? Just because andrew doesn't want to go through the dumb process to get stupid permissions, doesn't mean that we won't care about the mods. We may care about the modders, but unless we acknowledge them, and tell them we like their mod so much, we're using it in their pack, they won't know. In fact, I think it sounds a little selfish when you use something someone's spent the majority of their free time on for no money whatsoever, and then not even let them know you're using it. We should be thanking these modders because there are nice people in the modding community, despite what the minority of big and arrogant modders might show. And again, I'm not saying we should go through the insane process of getting permission, I'm saying we should start off on the right foot, so we don't need to worry about permission. While looking through forum posts for information for the wiki, the vast majority of those I've seen so far only require that you let them know you're using the mod for it to be in a pack. We can't rely on other people to not instantly jump to bad conclusions when they find out we're using their mod without their knowledge, and assume we don't care.
Mooseman9 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Have you ever been in a different game's modding community ever?
nedned2k Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 TL;DR of my previous rantposts: I could care less about permissions, but we should let people know we're using their mods because, even though it may lead to a little conflict in the beginning, if we do it right, it will lead to a more healthy player-modder relationship in the long run, and that will benefit all.
Mooseman9 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 There's one other issue, when I log out of the server, the whole game crashes.
nedned2k Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 If you don't want to talk about contacting the modders any more, I'll drop it, but please think my ideas through before dismissing them. On another note, did you/are you going to enable http?
