Eric Davies Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Don't worry, this at least gives me an opportunity to build a spawn area for the server.
Haskar Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 · Hidden Hidden After some research I found out zipline mod 1.2.5 COULD be compatible with 1.5, could someone check that out?
lukeb28 Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 Got back to find my cpu was hijacked and all my data for the month used up. I can't do anything till May 1st so all outstanding packs will have to wait for me.

Haskar Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 · Hidden Hidden 2 bad I have all the time in the world so no pressure ;)
lukeb28 Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Sorry to hear that. Always bad when that happens. And I still have to purge the bastard. Better go back my mod library up. I can reinstall everything else I use safely but downloading all those mods, somthing probably piggybacked a file so redownloading them all is out of the question. I also have to get a better AV. Not caring about price (Ok under 150$), anyone know an exceptionally good one?
Eric Davies Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden One thing to do is to try all you can to avoid adfly, it's just adware waiting to happen.
Lethosos Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden And run Firefox with NoScript. It a hassle sometimes, but you have full control over what sources you allow to run scripts on your computer.
lukeb28 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden I use an add block so I thought that I needent worry about addfly. Well thats what I get for my ignorance.
SXScarecrow Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden The best free active antivirus out there is Avast! hands down. Also, for passive scanning, Malwarebytes is exceptional, and its free too!
Lawrence86 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Here's to hoping I'm posting this in the right spot. I am loving the technic modpacks and have grown fond of some select mods however as I have kids and the like it is extremely difficult to try and find the time to figure out how to put these mods together myself(not to mention I possess zero skill or knowledge on putting mods together and having them work). I would love to see a modpack with all the universal electricity mods including galacticraft, buildcraft, computercraft, rei minimap, redpower, nei, Steve's carts 2 and/or Railcraft and biomesxl (I would like minefactory reloaded but could do without it) . Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and would greatly appreciate anyone who feels generous enough to make this pack happen for me.

Haskar Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Luke, a friend tells me Modpacks are illegal. Do you take care of licencing?
SXScarecrow Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Luke, a friend tells me Modpacks are illegal. Do you take care of licencing? No, we don't. Licences for modpacks really aren't required at all. The legality of modding Minecraft in the first place is questionable, and no one is going to sue you anyway. Ask any decent lawyer. Our time is spent with RL stuff and making the actual modpack, we haven't got time to sort out permissions that are redundant anyway. If you have anymore questions about it, go and check out the latest PAINS match, where luke won his shiny belt. Also, tell your ignorant friend to STFU.
nedned2k Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Luke, a friend tells me Modpacks are illegal. You should be very careful with that here, the modding community has had some bad experiences with that debate. I'll just say that most people pretty much agree that the whole "modpacks are illegal" is just beating a dead horse.

nedned2k Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Thank you. He told me Technic Launcher is going to get sued very soon I would say that, most likely, your friend doesn't see both sides of the story, but here's a basic rundown on the permissions shitfest. 1. The Technicpack is made and becomes increasingly popular, including many people's most favorite mods at a fraction of the difficulty to put together. 2. The modmakers find out about this, and while most are fine, some are significantly less-than-fine with this idea. 3. Stuff happens, words fly about, malicious code is put in, etc... 4. Slowpoke comes out with FTB, striving to get past this by asking permission from all of the modmakers, which inadvertently caused the major part of the shitfest, with people from both sides acting like total idiots. 5. Technic gets permission from all of the modders, and removes all mods without permission, but ignorant people keep fighting about legality over a modified game of blocks. And now, things have (for the most part) cooled down.
Lethosos Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Just for clarification's sake, the public modpacks have permissions granted. The private modpacks don't need permissions at all. FTB has far more stringent rules for modpacks, given that they personally host the packs themselves. The Platform only hosts a database to external packs.
Haskar Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Looking forward to tell him that...
Lawrence86 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 · Hidden Hidden Legally anyone who owns the game (this applies to all games) has the right to install and play any user created (aka Unofficial) mods for said game and are not allowed to charge people who own the game for their mods (unless permission has otherwise been granted by the license holder, i.e Mojang) for that reason. This is because user created mods are unofficial modifications to already existing and licensed code.

With that, this discussion is done in this thread.
