overload Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 So yesterday I got inspired by some awesome videos on youtube to try out voltz modpack and it's great. Afterwards I had an idea to start up my own server perhaps and...I clicked on multiplayer tab. NOTE: It was first time I played voltz and I did not add any servers. And what I see there is like 5 servers from which 2 are most popular ones out there, now I am wondering how is anyone supposed to get a successful server when all the players that install modpack already have those servers added which leads to the fact that they will most likely not search for others. Can anyone explain me the reasoning behind this? Quote

Get off your high horse, plenty of servers that aren't on by default are popular. Quote

It would remain fair if they were in server list 1st spot as they have to try to hold that position and not like it is now, at the moment they have no need to try to remain in top as that spot is GUARANTEED for them. Seriously guys, this is bull&@% Quote
Maxis010 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 So what? Voltz doesn't go "You have joined X server, now blocking all other servers, enjoy your choice." If someone wants to go on an Official server then they shall, if someone does not, they won't, it's that simple But hey, lets just go tell the owners of all these servers http://forums.technicpack.net/forums/voltz-servers.71/ that because they aren't official then no one is going to take a second glace at them, after all, it's clearly just a ruse to make us think that we have a choice about what servers we connect to, that's why this topic [Link] has over 200 replies, most of which seem to be applications to join, and it's only 25 slots, all of those appicants must have started up voltz, gone to join then be hypnotised by the officials, you know, that list that requires the modpack version to change so it gets redownloaded they want to update it Quote
overload Posted April 28, 2013 Author Posted April 28, 2013 They still have unfair advantage with which I do not agree. Quote
miniboxer Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 They still have unfair advantage with which I do not agree. Then make a server for another pack. Stop whining about something that you get for free. Quote
PeggleFrank Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 They probably pay a fee or something to that guy who manages the Ampz modpack, though I doubt it. Might be some of his friends hosting servers or something that want recognition. Also, not sure if this means anything, but I just tested the Voltz modpack with the FTB launcher. It has those servers up there too automatically. Btw, the owner of that server gets payed to run it. Probably via donations or some kind of interesting carrot-on-the-stick technique to make you upvote/send money to the server. So it is slightly unfair. But, the more people you have on a server the more laggy it's going to be and generally the lower quality the community is going to be. Quote
Clawx207 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I total agree with you here :/ My server company Jwl has made a voltz server recently and its really hard to get players due to the fact that a couple of servers, may i mention 2 owned by the same people , are smack dab on the recommended list. What was wrong with the system of looking on the forums to find a server? Just antagonizing smaller companies like mine. Quote

pixlepix Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 My server, without being recommended, had more online players than some of the recommended servers. It's possible. Not easy, but possible. Quote
