Aurrin Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The wiki now has a guide for players familiar with IndustrialCraft and RedPower to quickly come up to speed on the replacement functionality in Minefactory Reloaded, Thermal Expansion, and other mods. Since many people come here looking specifically for that info, thought I should plant a signpost. Quote
swyrl Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 yes, this should be stickied! please sticky this admins! lots of people post threads about how to do things, this is very useful! Quote
Terminator2906 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Agreed, this thread needs to be stickied so people stop bitching about IC2 and Redpower being the only mods able to do XYZ Quote
Aurrin Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Thank you! I'm glad it's helpful. I'd be honored if it was stickied. Quote
diamondeye83 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Thanks for the help, i was lost on the new wiring until now! Quote
iPSY Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Oh thank you very much ! All the videos i've seen with tutorials only teach the IC2 stuff :c Quote
BinaryMan Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I started playing MC again and went straight for tekkit, and of course everything has changed since I used to play what is now called Classic. Then I kept reading and IC2 + RP gone ... doh. I spent a few hours looking for a video, a guide, SOMETHING that wasn't outdated (I guess even the wikis are not updated yet, well it is a different wiki now?). It was very frustrating but this has helped a lot. There is still a lot of re-learning to do. I really wish there was a tutorial series for the new tekkit setup but I am just learning about each mod as I go. Well at least I have found the working wiki for "modern" tekkit. I am used to powering everything IC2 with solar panels and most of my time was spent making compressed solar panel arrays, but I am OK with having the new BC generators/energy system and I heard more generators are coming. I watched the video on TE and it does look to replace most of the core machines in IC2 with some nice interface changes like programmable input/output. I guess the powered suit will replace stuff like the electric drill ? There are a couple things I have to re-learn how to accomplish. Pneumatic tubes + filters I used heavily in factories instead of the BC pipes because I had a lot of problems with BC pipes spitting out blocks when machines halt or overflow and sorting stuff. I need to check if additional pipes still includes teleport + diamond sorting, but I think the ME network replaces a lot of the logistical stuff now ? Totally new to me. It probably solves the issue of overflow. I really want a good logistics management system. One thing I really miss is : http://thetekkit.wikia.com/wiki/Miner . There is a BC miner (http://minecraftbuildcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Mining_Well) but reading about it it only does 1x1 area and doesn't fill in after or recover the pipe (?). I guess that is like the starter mining device. The IC2 miner had up to 9x9 area but doesn't leave a big hole, it has a "cleaner" approach. The BC Quarry I saw the video on and has perhaps a better capability to define the area to mine, but then it leaves a huge hole. That is the only problem I have with it but it still seems damn convenient for strip mining (any way to cover it up easily?). Auto-crafting is also more developed so I look forward to playing with the ME mod. I resisted the urge to just go back to Classic because all the cool stuff moving forward is going to be on modern tekkit. I just wish I had an overall guide or something. Quote

I'm very glad you've found it helpful. I've been toying with writing a 'getting started' guide as well, if I have time I may do that. I guess the powered suit will replace stuff like the electric drill ? Yes, the main difference being that the powered glove can have all of the tools on it simultaneously. And then some. It frees up a lot of inventory space. The only downside is that it's a bit more expensive to get started, though not by much. Make a powered glove and a tinker table, and look through the tool modules when you bring up the tinker table's GUI. You should be able to install pickaxes, axes, and shovels with a few iron, copper, and silver. ME networks do indeed take care of the higher-tier logistics, and neatly solve all overflow problems. It's also much more convenient than a room full of chests. Teleport pipes are being phased out (pardon the pun) in favor of item/liquid/power tessaracts, which do much the same thing. I need to add that to the replacement guide, come to think of it. One thing I really miss is : http://thetekkit.wikia.com/wiki/Miner . Auto-crafting is also more developed so I look forward to playing with the ME mod. There is a filler machine that can be used to fill back up the holes that the quarry makes, and you could use the Igneous Extruder machine to make an infinite supply of cobblestone. I haven't tried that, so I don't know how well it works, but it's an option at least. I resisted the urge to just go back to Classic because all the cool stuff moving forward is going to be on modern tekkit. I just wish I had an overall guide or something. Agreed. It's definitely needed. Quote
