Guff Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Hello everyone. I have come across a couple of mod packs that are using my mods without my permission. They are posting their packs on the Technic Platform. I don't know of any way of reporting these mod packs to have them removed, because I do not like people using my mods without requesting permission first. If there is any way I can report a pack for this or ask someone to remove it from the Platform, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)
Lethosos Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 At least tell us what mod it is? The mods really can't make any solid decisions without any real information.
Guff Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 This is the mod pack. The mods in question are Minor Alchemy and Flight Ring.
Melfice Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Hi. I have 193 active posts on the MCF. Is that a high enough post count to ask for permission? Would 100 be enough? 50? Regardless of your answer, I would probably still not ask for permission if I ever wanted to add your mods to a public pack, because going by post count is absolutely, hilariously ridiculous. Might be a thing for future consideration.

Will this site make or host modpacks for me? No. You will have to create the modpack on your end and find reliable hosting yourself. The Platform does not and will not host any modpacks. It simply points to the location where you host it. If you have a problem with a modpack you should take it up with the user who compiled it and the host where it is located.
Maxis010 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Fairly sure you want this guy http://forums.technicpack.net/members/rutibexrut.2198/ Good luck with that btw, please do not start complaining if you or your requests are ignored as it is ultimately your problem, not ours, no-one here polices the modpacks, it's all on you as the mod author P.S You approve or deny based of of post count on the MCF? Well I'm boned if I want your permission because my MCF post count = 0 P.S.S The guy I linked has been inactive on these forums since march
Guff Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 I don't approve or deny solely based on posts; I use post count as a basis of how active the person is in the MCF community. There really is nothing I can do on my own because he won't remove it. He laughs at the fact that some mod owners require permissions. If you read his pack's Permissions section, it simply says "lol." Why allow users to post mod packs without permission if mod creators can't police and report those packs when their mods are being used against their will?
SimpleGuy Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Why allow users to post mod packs without permission if mod creators can't police and report those packs when their mods are being used against their will? Because in this instance the people providing a service are not wasting effort into policing how it is used. Imagine if Bit Torrent, Inc. had to police the entire internet's usage of BitTorrent. Here's a more solid example: Microsoft doesn't police how people use their products like Visual Studio, as programmers are using it as a service to program more efficiently. You could be using it for crazy sketchy hacking things. However, they will and do police a person having a copy of the software and punish them if it is unlicensed. Another example is how in my state, you have to have a license to own a gun. You don't have to pay nor tell anyone when you use it in the firing range... or in more malicious situations. This isn't meant to start down the path of intellectual property rights. Just trying to clarify actual products versus services for ya. The bottom line is: If it is your mod, you're taking on as much responsibility and control as you want. Some actions will win fans, some won't.
Mooseman9 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Why allow users to post mod packs without permission if mod creators can't police and report those packs when their mods are being used against their will? If you don't want players to use your mods, don't put them up for public download.
Melfice Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I don't approve or deny solely based on posts; I use post count as a basis of how active the person is in the MCF community. And Minecraft players outsider the MCF community? Shit out of luck? Or would somebody with zero posts, like Maxis, still have a chance?
plokami666 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 As much as I agree with modpacks having permissions for all the mods they contain, approving or disaproving with a person's activity within the MCF community as a basis is quite irrational. As Melfice said, what about people outside the MCF community? What if someone is active AF within the PMC community for example? Of any other Minecraft resource related communities? What if someone has 600 MCF posts and 90% of them are talking about their love for walnut pie? And someone else has 10 total posts and all 10 of them are constructive and well meant critisism towards a mod? What then?
