the_abiding_dude
I am having trouble smelting. I can mix ores in the smelter just fine and I have been making a lot of bronze. But I can't seem to pour it onto a casting table. I put a faucet on the drain and a casting table below it, but nothing happens. Anything I should know about what I need to pour metal? Lethosos
A cast is needed. You'll need aluminum brass or gold to be poured on an empty casting table to make a blank cast. But the books should have told you that, too.
the_abiding_dude
Ahhh I see my error. I needed to pour BRASS, not bronze, to make a blank cast. Thanks
the_abiding_dude
Actually, scratch that. I cant pour brass or gold either. What is going on?
Lethosos
Well, you can skip directly casting the armor by making the Ignot cast form. Just make a handle stencil and make it again with the same stencil. I don't think it was removed AFAIK, so give that a try.
Jay?
Are you sure you emptied out your reservoir of bronze before making the brass/gold? The smeltery will try to pour what's left of the bronze first.
the_abiding_dude
I had to reinstall it. Now it works and I can make blank casts. Now how do I make certain casts and stencils?
Lethosos
Use the Stencil Bench, you poke holes in them the same way.
the_abiding_dude
I don't know what you mean. There is only one input slot on the stencil bench. What do I put in it and what will it do?
Lethosos
O.o ...I'm done here, if he isn't going to read those books he gets for free in-game.

the_abiding_dude
Finally, after about 30 minutes of uncovering my idiocy and making progress, I am fully set up for smelting. Last thing: know of any alloys that aren't listed in the book? The book said there were more than just what was listed

Last thing: know of any alloys that aren't listed in the book? The book said there were more than just what was listed I haven't discovered any others, but i didn't do much experimenting. I'd expect steel to be an alloy of iron and one of the alloy-only materials though. tin or aluminum or something.
Lethosos
Steel only works if you have an another mod with Steel registered in the Forge Ore Dictionary. Also, mDiyo is planning on adding Metallurgy support, so that may be the other alloys he speaks of.

Jay?
HAHAHA!!! Now I have enough manyullyn to arm a small military Ah but have you fully sharpened your sword yet? Also, here's a tip. Without sacrificing tool quality, you can make bindings/crossgaurds out of paper, and get an extra modifier slot.

Jay?
So, what's the best thing to make weapons out of? o 3o I like Manyullyn for the blade and rod, and paper for the crossgaurd. I use longswords. If you can find a decent source of witherbones, i split the modifications 50/50 between witherbone and quartz upgrades.

Spudgy
If you can't figure it out from the books, which give the recipes for the different metals, watch a mod spotlight video. It'll also show how to lay out the smelter and use the patterns etc. Short video on the smeltery More detail http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tinkers construct
