CXXIVLDIVL
ok cururnir i have looked at the tutorial and i have done what you stated collect all those ores and stuff. i am only short on gold i have built the pulverizer and dynamo and have made some dusts now i am only wondering how to keep things organized. which room to put all the machines i am wondering if there is a save file for download, one which i can see to give me an idea on how to organize things and then build for myself
Moderators AetherPirate Posted August 16, 2014 Moderators Share Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) Once the quarries start going, storage becomes a crisis. I use Deep Storage Units (DSU) to store the stuff I have stacks and stacks of. A nullifier can help dispose of the garbage. The larger chests (iron, silver, gold if you can) can help too. You can make item ducts and servos to make stuff go where you want. But I often still have random chests full of crap. Other than that I race towards an AE system. With enough drives you don't need to sort. Edited August 16, 2014 by AetherPirate CXXIVLDIVL
Curunir
Any sufficiently large well-lit room is good for your base. Many find building a base compound quite enjoyable and have many creative ideas how to do it. Maybe look around Youtube guides for inspiration. As for item storage, AetherPirate already gave you the gold standard. For mass items like Dirt, Cobblestone and whatever else comes in large quantities, Deep Storage Units are the way to go. You can hook them up to Itemducts and automate things with Pneumatic Servos or Item Routers so you don't have to haul around the stuff by hand. For anything else, an assortment of Strongboxes should be your intermediate storage. They can be picked up while full, which is not true for the chests from the Iron Chests mod (including Gold/Diamond/Obsidian/Crystal Chests). Of course, if you have a permanent safe storage room, Obsidian Chests are a nice option. It should be noted that all Strongboxes are totally blast-proof and won't despawn even when dropped. Of the other chests, only Obsidian Chests share that trait, and I'm not sure about despawning and keeping their contents. Later in game, when you have everything aplenty and also gathered copious amounts of Quartz, an ME Network will be your final storage solution. You can integrate DSUs into it, and the other items will go onto Storage Disks that can be accessed via ME Chests or Drives. Applied Energistics is quite an advanced mod with lots of details to learn, so don't rush it. EvilOwl
now i am only wondering how to keep things organized. which room to put all the machines You can make a low-tech sorting system out of the chests (try copper chests and then silver chests, don't waste your iron for iron chests) and a long row of itemdcuts + pneumatic servos with whitelist filtering. EvilOwl
Look in NEI for the itemducts. Press E, on the bottom of the screen in the text box start writing 'itemduct'. This and this is what I had in mind. This can be done with the opaque itemducts also. They are cheaper. The vanilla chest is the input and the items are sorted to the (iron chest mod) other chests. One chest is for food, one for ores......... The last chests on the ducts (the ones on the left) need to be without filtering so any item that is not filtered goes there. You can add a filter by making a 'pneumatic servo' and right clicking with it in hand on the connection with the chest and click again with empty hand for the filters GUI. EvilOwl
Yes. They are next. You can also set NEI to recipe mode. That way you can left/right click an item and you'll get recipe for the item / recipes containing that item. Not spawning them like in creative (if in singleplayer). Press E then go to options -> inventory -> change cheat mode to recipe mode. While watching direwolf20 videos notice some difference in recipes. You can check actual tekkit recipe in NEI. Left/right click in recipe mode or press R or U hovering over the item in cheat mode. I didn't post Buildcraft spotlight because with a simple gameplay you need only two items: >quarry and a filler. Edit: As a beginner you should also visit this place. I guess Curunir has something on the topic in his starters guide. EvilOwl
When you right click with the backpack in hand you have additional inventory like a portable chest.. Be careful near lava when doing this because you may drop it. Edit: Later when you have more different materials you can make a strongbox, they are lava-proof. If you have 3 diamonds you can make a mining turtle. He will mine for you but you need to empty his inventory every 3-5 minutes or he will drop it on the ground. He needs some coal to work. Like 8 items of coal for a 3x2x128 tunnel. Steps in NEI: computer -> turtle -> mining turtle. Place mining turtle on the ground in front of a wall, right click, type tunnel 128 then take some coal to his inventory and press Enter. CXXIVLDIVL
ok, i have captured some cows, im going to breed them and get some leather for the backpacks i have a few strongboxs already yeah about the diamonds, i need a few to get to the next step in curnirs tutorial. making a nether portal should i make a mining turtle or a diamond pickaxe once i get some diamonds? you mean i need a computer for the mining turtle? i am having a bit of a problem guys. for some reason the machinist table is crashing minecraft. when i put stuff in the crafting grid it crashes almost every time also should i just go ahead and pulverize all my ores?
EvilOwl
If you want turtles you will need a diamond pickaxe - it's in the recipe (not damaged). You can also forget the turtles and go for the diamonds to make a quarry. The choice is yours. Turtles break obsidian instantly, so does the quarry. Turtles need some coal but the quarry needs a lot of power. Again the choice is yours. Yes. you will need a computer for turtles. It's in the recipe. For the crash: (if you are in singleplayer only) download simply jetpacks version 0.1.4.1 (precisely this version) and put the jar in your mods directory. Delete the old 0.1.4 version. You can read about it here. Pulverize all ores - yes. Smelt the dusts - not all. You will need electrum, invar and some other stuff later. Look up in NEI the recipes for conduits, energy cells and strongboxes (the hardened and better versions). The rest is up to you. You will need to make some mistakes in-game for it to be fun/little dangerous. Try to drink milk with a bucket.. Do it outside Not in the base. Curunir
Backpacks are nice, but there are two alternatives in Tekkit that I prefer. A Strongbox is not as convenient, because it has to be set down every time you want to access it, but it has the huge advantage of being nigh indestructible. Even if you die and drop it in lava, you can come back later, pump out the lava, and it will usually still be there. The more convenient solution is a Golden Bag of Holding. Works like a backpack, but can be imbued with Magical Wood to gain an enchantment that will cause it to respawn with you when you happen to die. Needs to be refreshed once it actually did that, but this may prove invaluable. As for Diamonds, I think my tutorial describes a way to get into the Nether pre-Diamond. Just generate the Obsidian from Lava in an Igneous Extruder. As for smelting all dusts, it may be nice to free up storage space. You can always re-pulverize the ingots if you need dusts, just takes some time and energy. Edited August 22, 2014 by Curunir CXXIVLDIVL
CXXIVLDIVL
@bochen i'll decide about quarry or turtle after i get dem diamonds, only have one of them thanks bro, replacing the jetpack mod with a newer one fixed the problem there all pulverizered. i just noticed i am gonna need a few more pulverizers cause just one is taking forever lol, that was unexpected. the milk acted a lot like water. how am i supposed to drink milk then? and speaking of mistakes, i tried to pick up the uranium after pulverizering it. got radiation poisoning! @curnir that bag of holding reminds me of dungeons and dragons that sounds sweet. yeah i tried both strongbox and bag and i think im gonna use bags right now. i dont like putting the box down and picking it up again and again ok, got it. one ingot equals two dusts oh yeah your right.... sorry i just made that thingie, and i needed it anyway to make me some cobblestone! yeah so i now have the obisidian and now im going to make a portal and go in the nether. wish me luck
