ShinShineSpark Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 that you just have to share the @#$! with others. Build nether portal at y=38 in normal world... Receive skylimit nether portal over lava lake with 90~+ drop in nether. [img width=800] Why couldn't the portal have just spawned on that handy nether fortress down there. So near yet so far. I'm very tempted to get 5~ stacks of sand, and move that nether portal the old fashioned way. The issue being I'm allergic to ghasts and that one is already firing at me.
jakj Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Bucket of water to get up and down, dude. Bring flint and steel to reignite portal.
ShinShineSpark Posted April 28, 2012 Author Posted April 28, 2012 Bucket of water to get up and down, dude. Bring flint and steel to reignite portal. Bucket of water. Nether. Yeah, something in that plan doesn't work. Like water in the nether.
jakj Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Water doesn't work in the nether? Interesting; Never got that far into it. I assume water from ice would evaporate as well.
DoodTheDud Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Water doesn't work in the nether? Interesting; Never got that far into it. I assume water from ice would evaporate as well. Right after Silk Touch came out it did. I think they changed it so that ice doesn't break into water anymore and/or silk touch can't get ice.
PsychoBob Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 In the latest snapshot, Ice can be gotten with silktouch once again. However, it evaporates in the nether, just like water.
xxmikegigsxx Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 You get ice blocks by compressing snow blocks and breaking ice in the nether makes a water source I just checked.
ShinShineSpark Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Unfortunately, the point on ice into water [also didn't have a compressor at the time. should have thought of that] is rather moot if 7 ghasts fire at you from all directions and you take lava swimming lessons. Blergh, maybe next map gen wont be be so ***. (Yes, I'm playing on Hardcore.)

Valkon Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Try oil then. Dumping oil onto lake of lava? sounds legit.
ShinShineSpark Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 7 ghasts...all firing at once? Large open area, ghasts on all sides. Aggro'd every single one of them on the way down. Dumping oil onto lake of lava? sounds legit. *Insert random x member of family died that way joke here*
Windoom Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Try out evertide amulet as you clearly use EE. Evertide makes water possible in nether sincerly,
ShinShineSpark Posted April 30, 2012 Author Posted April 30, 2012 Try out evertide amulet as you clearly use EE. Evertide makes water possible in nether sincerly, "..." I obviously have evertide when i've been playing for 3~ ish hours on a world in hardcore mode. And no, a single alchemy bag and the repair talisman are all I allow myself from EE when playing HC[yep, dont use the diving rod].
Neowulf Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Got 7 iron and a redstone? Make a turtle, place it over the edge, fill it with cobble, then use this program to have to deploy a pillar. Do that all round your area and you have an armored chimney. Just whipped this up, haven't tested it yet. local tArgs = { ... } if #tArgs ~= 1 then print( "Usage: quickPillar >depth>" ) return end local depth = tonumber( tArgs[1] ) if depth < 1 then print( "Depth needs to be positive" ) return end local function checkInv() for n=1,9 do turtle.select(n) if turtle.getItemCount(n) ~= 0 then return end end for m=1,depth do turtle.down() end for m=1,depth do turtle.placeDown() turtle.up() checkInv() end Edit: Already noticed an error...
Torezu Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Sneak and place one cobble on/over the edge. Stand back and place gravel on the cobble so it falls. Continue placing gravel until it fulls 2 full columns (you may need a lot). Dig out one column on the way down. Place ladders on the 2nd to get back up. The solution to the ghast problem is left as an exercise. > If you have enough gravel, just fill down all the way around. Make sure you stay as close to the middle as possible, or you may find you have to rebuild your way up.
