Problems joining servers

Hi -- trying to connect to a b-team server...I assumed I had to go into b-team mod via technic launcher, then choose multiplayer and set up the server, yes? If so, I do that, but then when I join, I get the 'dirt' screen, says "joining" but then kicks me back out to the technic launch splash screen...

 

What am I doing wrong? (and if I just go in via the game itself, it won't even recognize the servers.
