  1. Let me check into that. It MAY require you to unpack the jar file, find the texture, and remove the alpha blending from the texture (so you cant see inside). I'm not sure if the mod author would appreciate that.
  2. Ah, cheers! Also, success. My cohort and I cobbled together a rather basic package. Thank you for the help! Next question, where do I go to get help with a particular mod in a pack? And another, where/how do I turn off items i dont want used in a pack?
  3. Oddly enough, there isnt. You can possibly retexture the pipe. I've had much less lag with Uni cable than RECon. Also, Uni Cable is still a bit of a test item if I'm not mistaken.
  4. I was referring to placing the mod in the mods folder, not the bin folder. Next question is the instructions say to extract the Universal install for Forge, then repack it into another jar. What is the purpose of taking the jar and repacking it when we've done nothing to the file? *edit* Also, is there a particular order one should install mods? For example NEI, Buildcraft, or Rei's before or after other mods.

  6. Luke, I'm unfortunately still a little lost on this whole thing. I'm building from scratch and would prefer to keep dependencies down to a minimum. I'm stuck at the part where I've downloaded the mod(s) I would like to add and placed them in the bin folder. You mention using a similar mod that runs the same version of mc and placing files there. Well, this is difficult as there are no 1.6.x modpacks, unless I am to rip open someone else' modpack. I am a nitwit and this post is to be ignored. I fired up vanilla via launcher and am able to do everything.
  7. What I found odd was as long as its night cycle, it can stay there. The instant it activates or registers sunlight, it crashes the server. It has to do with the power boosting. I've attempted to remove the boost amount, but its the boost coding.
  8. MFR's Harvester is a great machine to grab plants. It sadly cannot replant, so it needs a Planter from the same mod pack. It's quite complex to setup, and requires a hefty bit of power to run. It also uses a lot of computer power to process the information. It can go quite fast and lag. You dont want to live next to this while it is harvesting trees. As far as starting off power goes the Wind Turbines from the mekanism mod is a good, stable source of power. It requires steel, so if you're running 1.3.9, it will be a bit painful for you to make. Updating to 1.3.13 will invalidate your world as the block ID's are different, but you will be able to simply refine iron in a furnace to steel. Osmium will be your linchpin on these. You must keep them 3 blocks apart from each other. The higher the elevation, the more power. 3 or 4 of these will keep the most simple setup running at sea level. Quartz Grindstone: If you are starting off and want to be really stingy with materials this is a low-tech version of the pulverizer requiring zero power, but a bit of time on your part. Its a worthwhile crutch until you can get stepped up to machines. It does not do osmium, so you will be hard pressed to get large amounts of that. There is a crank handle associated with it, so dont forget to make that. Gold, Iron, Tin, Copper, Silver are the only grind-able items in this. Forestry Clockwork Engines: Uses a ton of gold, but that really is not hard to find in bigdig. The nice thing about these is you can wind them up and power machines with them, like the pulverizer. The recipe is easy to assemble. You use the black wrench to change the direction it is facing. I recommend just putting it next to the pulverizer or powered furnace as they have internal buffers. It may take 2 or 3 winding sessions to do a full stack. If you want to be fancy, you can use a basic energy cube or makeshift energy cell and feed one or two into it. **note** Stop winding when it hits red. After that it will start to kill you. BuildCraft Sterling Engine: A good standby if all else fails. Burns any burnable vanilla item. Treat it like the clockwork engine. These WILL explode if you hook them to things like pumps, or let a machines power fill to full capacity. To answer the question which is the best power system, its a matter of efficiency and how much time is vested in setting up. BuildCraft's Minecraft Joules (MJ/t) require more complex setups, and the machines that use it are very power hungry. Mekanism's Joules (J), KiloJoules (kJ) or MegaJoules (MJ) are different than Buildcraft's, but seems to be more straight-forward. Mid-Game power should be supplemented by diversity. This means not relying completely on one type of power. Solar-Wind mix is a good example. 10 wind generators will do you quite well, supplement that with 9 advanced solar panels and connect with Universal Cable to an Advanced or Elite Energy cell. Dont expect this to run a BC Quarry machine for long.
  9. So I decided "Let make a space station cause it'd be cool!". Did I really think wrong on that one. After finding out that solar panels crash the server once the daylight cycle hits, replacing all of the glass 4 times, replacing other various blocks, I'm quickly starting to realize how much of a pain this is even in creative mode. To start off, GalCraft with 1.3.13 seems to have some issues with the fairness of oxygen generation. This may be the fault of mekanism, but let me continue first. My first tier's going great. Its so beautiful. I setup 12 electrolytic separators, attach them to tanks and let the things fill while I setup oxygen sealers. Attaching them and firing it all up, we wait gleefully as atmosphere was vented into the room. Hours go by and people start logging off. I stay logged in as creative overnight. 8 hours later, still not sealed. check after work, 8 hours later. Not sealed. The sealer was sitting there at 5% input. I scratch my head and start wondering why the hell its so poor output. The separators were low on power so I bumped the power and that brought it to 12%. I sat and did the math over and over. I'd need 75 to 100 separators to run ONE sealer at an acceptable level. Let alone the volume of water, aqueous accumulators, and real estate to put the bloody things. This brings me down to my disappointment. To get 100% on 8 sealers to cover my station: 2 fission reactors, each with 4, 3x3 turbines 20 aqueous accumulators 400 electrolytic separators I dont think a server's going to appreciate chunk loading 800 separators. Is there any way to either make the galacticraft stuff use less, or make the separators output more?
  10. 1.3.13 is very stable and fixes a lot of things thats in 1.3.9. It will require a world reset if you do migrate as the ID's are different on some blocks and items.
  11. I've seen this before. Someone else had blue ones spawn like crazy as well. I dont think there is a fix except to kill them all :sadface:
  12. Break them? yes! Use wrench ID 10993 (The black one), or Prototype Omniwrench and shift-right click. DONT do it too fast. It will spam the server and it will boot you off (non-fatal). Just rejoin if you do get kicked. Uni Cable use an Iron Axe with normal left-click. And thank you for that equation! That helps. I was using an AEC to BEC as this would give me a set consumption amount, leaving a remainder. Copper wire transfers power really fast, but you will loose huge amounts. I wish the energy cubes accepted redstone signals to switch off/on. You dont have to get rid of the RECell's, just utilize a RECon segment to set the flow direction going into/out of them. Uni cable will hook right up to the conduit.

  14. Uni cable does not have a (documented) loss. But it has its ups and downs. Uni cable if used with RECell's will drain them dead even with no output connected. Because RECells both input and output on the same face, there is no way to tell it whether you want energy or to store energy. Avoid this configuration if you can. Not all machines that output power, play nice with Uni Cable. I've listed some I've tested. Steam Engine Magmatic Clockwork Engine MFR's Bio Generator BC Engine's appear work fine with exception of redstone engine For machines that really hate it, but like RECon, you can use 1 or 2 pieces of RECon to extract the power, and then finish the connection with Uni Cable. RECon has some advantages. Flow control and bleed out if the destination is full. Also, after extensive testing, RECon actually stores some of it (buffer). This is why you see some "loss". Some of it is still there, just waiting to be used. There is a loss, but I personally wouldnt even call it 5%. RECon because of this buffering, and flow control, requires more calculations on host and server. Super long runs or complex setups may cause users graphics distress. Machines that dont like RECon MFFS machines (really dont know what the problem is with this guy. Only accepts uni cable or fortron pumped to it using liquiduct) Power transfer (Handling) for either cable system is equal rate. RECon is capped at 800MJ/t I've pushed well over 1400MJ/t through Uni Cable.
  15. Seems the option has been removed apparently. The setting is now larger to by default, making some of this thread silly. Bigdig crashes due to the horde of mods and the massive amount of RAM consumed. You can still manually select the allocation amount. Just keep it reasonable (2GB to 4GB). If you've been playing for 6+ hours straight, chances are its going to crash no matter what due to Mem leaks in java 7.

  20. This seems to be happening with the tessellation crash for quite a few people. Try joining without any texture packs loaded.
  21. Well the unthinkable happened. Some git lit off a red matter explosive. After multiple attempts to persuade the player against using it, he did so when nobody (so he thought) was on. No real destruction except in the middle of the ocean. For his crimes he was issued a temp ban for 2 days and fined 5 stacks of emeralds while i figure out how to get rid of the ever lasting black hole without having to resort to mcedit. Or worse, a backup restoration meaning the loss of 12 hours of work for most folks. I changed the radius setting so its super tiny, but its making a mess of things. Frankly, I'd like to ban the item all together.

  23. Indeed. I'm kinda salivating over that big reactor that was showcased. I've become more involved with my server denizens by participating in their shenanigans and am finally seeing that there's more fun in playing it than just running the server.
  24. The refinery requires the fuel to be pumped out. Just like the dynamic tank, you have to use the BC wrench to set the output and apply a redstone signal to it to draw the fuel out of the BC Refineries.
