  1. Here is what startup batch looks like: java -XX:MaxPermSize=1024M -Xmx8G -jar BigDig.jar nogui --log-limit 100000 :edit: <Curse you shortcut keys!> Oddly enough, I'm finding that chunkloaders are not really needed any more and my machines work regardless if someone's on, or off the server. This may also be causing some of the problems. RAM flushing is far more efficient on the server versus client. It seems the more my denizens explore, the more RAM chewed by the server.
  2. If the game crashes at all, try the sticky thread here on how to fix some of your crash problems. The mod pack author would like pastebins of the crash log and FML log (in your own thread). Try that thread to see if that helps.
  3. To quote the main page for Big Dig: "It might as well be cheating!" And as such, I've actually disabled the use of mining wells and quarrys on my server. Cant make it too easy, eh?
  4. If you wish to persist with such wreck-less behavior, make sure your personal firewall installed is not blocking the program. Hamachi = EPIC BAD. To do my best to not get to complex, its a massive security risk to you and your friends.
  5. I know its not as cool as some giant mechanical contraption, but linking books from Mystcraft may be your only alternative at this point. With the removal of the link table, make sure you have stands to place your books or they'll disappear from your hand when you TP.
  6. Actually, what you may find interesting is something called "Solar Wind". Search engine it some time. It has been thought that we can "sail" on these magnetic winds, just like on earth.
  7. Odd, I do not even see it listed in the NEI interface. Did you add it in?
  8. I'll take a poke at that in just a moment.
  9. Quartz Grind Stone (ItemID 1313:1) causes FPS drop from 112 to 10 only when being used by a player. Affects others in vicinity. When not in use zero effect.
  10. The redstone conduit transfers everything except EU/t. Very handy, but some of the UE machines will not accept input from it. So you will have to convert it with a Basic battery. Also, make sure the conduit is configured properly. The two types of cables do not connect to each other.
  11. The rednet wires are a little tricky to get used to, but they act like the bundled cables from redpower2. The precision sledge is used to change the "color ID". Frankly I too miss the massive rooms full of cables strewn about. Most of all... I miss this... As for IC2? I am happy its gone in a sense. You need half the equipment to process ore. No need for redstone engines and wooden pipes any more. No guess work as to what face does what and how to connect said pipe. Frankly I've become a bit addicted to having TE and MFR. Thermal Expansion (TE) again eliminates the need for complex pipe systems. I use half the stuff that I did before. With IC2 I was using 10 macerators and 10 electric furnaces with OC upgrades. Now I'm doing it with 5 pulverizers and 5 powered furnaces. The best part of TE's pulverizers are that you get a chance of getting gold from copper. Now who doesnt like that?
  12. Khronology, Please check out this thread. If it does not help, please pastebin the last ForgeMod log generated. http://forums.technicpack.net/threads/lagging-out-or-crashing-on-joining-try-these-steps.46768/
  13. Correct, even in other mods via tekkit, I've had to cap the RAM at 3-4GB. So far, running great now for 1 hour!
  14. Groups of item 1510:6 greater than 3 in a close area (within 64 blocks of player) causes incredible lag.
  15. Hello all you diggers and tree punchers! I'd like to offer up a few suggestions for folks having the dreaded FPS drops and random crashes. CanVox has pointed out that PermGen size option needs to be enabled in the launcher. Also suggested multiple times is the allocation of more RAM to the game. 2GB or more is highly recommended. Hopefully the image here will give you a hand with this. You can get here by clicking the gear in the upper right corner, left of the red X box. The launcher will not allow you to allocate all available RAM installed in the machine. If you have exactly 2GB of ram, it will limit you to 1GB to 1.5GB depending on your machine. If you have 4GB, it will limit you to 3GB, and so on. Enabling "Increase PermGen Size" has allowed me to finally play. Despite running on a 24 core Intel Xeon workstation with 48GB of RAM, this baffled me how it could simply run out of memory at 2GB of 16 allocated. I hope this helps! --EDIT-- If this doesnt help you, then make a thread and pastebin your logs.
  16. I was already running 3GB allocated. Increasing PermGen option has smoothing things out for now. Greatly appreciated! Does this option also happen on the server?
  17. @CanVox: This has been happened once while opening up in creative single player. Other times they've been shutting down randomly. All I've done is gen a world and then walk around within the same chunk and open the inventory for two minutes. I will be happy to get pastebins of the past 3 FML logs if that will help, but each are different.
  18. I tried .12 and it still caused the problem. I'm going to start disabling mods until it goes away then report back.
  19. Yes, The world is still accessible. I will see if those two mods are doing it as well.
  20. @CanVox: I have to agree with OP. It's one of the mods that are included with Voltz that you recently added. Regardless of what I set the RAM allocation to, when it hits 2GB of use, it grinds to a halt. What can I do to help?
  21. Some of the mods that compose Voltz have a strange problem of jamming up the servers. I had it a lot when I ran a Voltz PVP server and had to reboot it every 4 hours. One of the mods has a memory leak I think and its getting hard to identify which one. I just fired up a creative world and my xeon workstation ground to a halt after it used up all 4GB in 20 minutes. Had to task-kill it just to get my pc back.
  22. Just to make a note here. I've noticed with Voltz that some of the mods in it cause some rather odd problems. First and foremost, I cannot run Voltz (and now Big Dig) for more than 10 minutes without the client maxing out its memory allocation and grinding to a halt. I'm now sitting at 4GB alocated in the launcher and it will use all of it in a matter of minutes. This might be the FPS drop you're talking about.
  23. Fascinating! I was wondering what those were.
