  1. I use a BC Flood Gate to fill my passive reactors. Just dont forget about it while it's filling or you'll fill your room with something nasty.
  2. Back when I was posting designs for Big Reactors I was running one 7x7x7 reactor with 5 fuel rods in an X arrangement, powering 5 turbines. One of these setups is enough to power 5 Laser Drills at max speed AND have a net positive gain of Yellorium. I'm fairly certain this setup had enough extra power in it to run my entire industry setup as well, though I had an extra reactor feeding into that as well, same setup with passive cooling, still at a net positive gain of Yellorium in storage. Laser Drills are by far the best solution as you can keep them running with less loaded chunks as well.

  4. Big Reactors seem to be by and far the superior mod this iteration. Atomic Science is needlessly complex and seems to be a burden on your server when you need to have a hundred plus large turbines to deal with the steam output from a single reactor. You also don't get much opportunity to tune and customize your setup with AS. I use a system of two 7x7x7 external size yellorium reactors powering 9 large turbines producing 190,000 RF/tick. Both reactors use a combined 0.3 mb/tick of yellorium. I have a backup system consisting of an array of reactant dynamos with energized redstone and blaze powder. These are constantly on and trickling 4 RF/tick per dynamo onto the system, so if the reactors go offline for whatever reason, me AE ME system wont power down.

  11. I do, incoming post! Alright so here we go. I've been doing testing for the last few days on a good setup for running an actively cooled reactor and getting as much RF out of a single reactor as possible. I'm pretty sure I can improve on the design a bit, but for now this is pretty good. First up, my reactor design: The best reactor I've found so far for running turbines is a 7x7x7 external with a 5x5x5 internal space. The following two images show the reactor setup. The reactor has a pretty decent efficiency and produces a TON of steam. The problem with it is it requires a massive amount of water to produce this steam. I have 4 fluid transfer nodes sucking water into the reactor, each of which has 2 stacks of mining and 2 stacks of speed upgrades, and that wont keep the reactor full 100% of the time, but it never bottoms out either. With liquid ender pearls the reactor runs with a slightly lower efficiency than gelid, the following picture is of the gelid reactor efficiency. (Ignore the battery, the reactor used to be passively cooled and it wont go away.) As you can see, the steam output is filled completely which helps to drive the temperature up and increase the efficiency of the reactor. 7200 mb/tick of steam output is enough to power 4 of my turbines at full speed. The turbines are up next. So I played around with a ton of different turbine designs, and finally settled on what I believe to be the best combination of size and efficiency. The following picture shows the design that I landed on. These turbines are 7x7x16 horizontal turbines. They have 4 full rings of enderium coils and 10 fans with 8 blades each. Each turbine can handle a max of 2000 mb/tick of steam, with 80 blades. I found in testing that this design will spin out of control if I run it at 2k mb/tick, and settles just over 1800 rpm at 1800 steam input. The next picture shows the settings/ouput of this setup. As you can see, this setup produces just under 21k rf/tick. I am running 4 of these turbines off of the reactor that I showed earlier in the post. I like this setup, but plan on doing some more testing to see if I can get the turbine running at 1800 rpm using all 2k mb/tick of steam that the reactor can use. I *think* that I can add a few more enderium coils and up the RF output even more. Hopefully this is helpful, if not totally overkill.

  13. You can use any "metallic" block in the game. Each ring can only be 8 blocks immediately encircling the shaft, but you can have multiple rings.
  14. It looks like 80 blades running on 1800 mb/tick of steam with 4 enderium rings is a sweet spot. Just shy of 21,000 rf/tick after it stabilized. I'm still playing around a bit with longer blades and more enderium blocks, but it takes a long time for these to spin up to full speed so it takes awhile to get a result.
  15. I think the test is going to be getting 80 blades and as many enderium blocks until it starts throttling the rpm of the turbine too much. I've got a 9x9x16 spinning up right now with 5 rings of enderium, We'll see how that goes.
  16. I just built a 7x7x16 turbine, running on 1800 mb/tick steam with 4 rings of enderium. It's producing almost 21k rf/tick. That gives me a 100% increase in power generation at a 80% increase in steam usage and 50% increase in size. Going to try a 9x9x16 next. By the way, 16 is the longest you can make a turbine.
  17. So far I have a 7x7x7 reactor with 5 fuel columns running two turbine setups. The reactor has all of the rods almost fully inserted and it's producing more steam than the two turbines need. One turbine (my first attempt) is running off 600 mB/tick of steam and is producing 3500 rf/tick. This turbine has 24 blades and two enderium block rings. The 2nd one is producing 10500 rf/tick on 1000 mb/tick of steam. This turbine has 40 blades and 4 enderium rings. I'm going to build a few more of these and see how many I can run off the single reactor.
  18. I've been experimenting with the new version of Big Reactors, and I'm wondering if anyone has played around much with the active cooling? Right now I can't seem to get active cooling working with anything but water. Is this normal? I also can't seem to supply enough water to the reactor to keep it from going nuts in temperature. Also, do you absolutely have to drain water from the turbines to keep them running?
  19. Does anyone have a method of producing glowstone that doesn't involve flying around in the nether and breaking tons of it? I'm an auto-production junkie and glowstone is driving me nuts.
  20. Set up a MFFS forcefield with a single block gap in the center. 5 tall with a 3x1 gap. Turn this on as the wither is charging and it will kill it.
  21. It crashes when it's trying to load the first dimension. I get the [INFO] [STDOUT] Loading Dimensional Doors save data... And the crash as stated above immediately afterwards. Alright, I just fixed my server, at the expense of any warp doors that were set up. I move the Dimensional Doors Folder out of the World folder (backing it up) and then started the server. Seems to be working fine. Will report back when I try to make a warp door again.
  22. Mine is doing the same thing. Just started today. Edit I disabled Dimensional Doors and the server starts fine.
  23. I used Atomic Science reactors previously, but since the big update I've found myself drawn towards the yellorium reactors, They're much more aesthetically pleasing than the mess of pipes and turbines that come with the AS reactors.
