  1. 1. Hmm... not really sure, there was Infiniminer which inspired notch to make Minecraft (believe that was overall look of the world). Dungeon Keeper also inspired Notch (thinking that was the first person aspect of it) and so did Dwarf Fortress (a Rouge-like that randomly made it's own world for you to quest in). You can look up that stuff... I really can't remember what inspired what part. Asides from the inspiration there was an arena shooter called Cube and it's sequel Sauerbraten (Cube 2) that both featured and option to build a level from blocks (and models) in real time (though you needed to enter edit mode first). Then there are other sandbox style games that might be similar but don't do the block look. If I remember right people where working on porting minecraft saves to cube 2 and maybe making a version of minecraft in it after minecraft came out. 2. I really don't know, I liked bukkit when I used it but I learn through Kaker that they are kinda dickbags and their negative mentions of hMod seem to back up Kaker's story. If done right they might make a good thing. Would have been nice if they hired the spout and forge teams as well as forge seems to be a good API for client mods and Spout gave use the wonderful Technic launcher and allowed the server to install the needed client side mods onto the player's computer. 3. I really don't know, wasn't there when it started. I know likely the most widely used at first was modloader. Also pretty sure the first modpack was NOW that's what I call Minecraft (which I believe had permission trouble, I know they failed to get permission from the creator of millinare though at the time the page said something like "I DON'T given permission to redistribute my mod, I want all downloads to go through this post, if you see anyone else offering it report them to me at once."). 4. I again don't know, morrowind and HL2 I believe still have an active modding community. Minecraft's modding might start to slow down when the NEXT BIG THINGTM hits (that is not a product, just me being silly). But it is not likely that they will run out of ideas anytime soon as new games seem to inspire new ideas for Minecraft. I doubt Jeb_ or Notch would sell minecraft, it is not like other indies where it only made a couple thousand and company can say "give you $250,000 for it." I mean Notch just gave his employees his 3 million in DIVIDENDS to be split among them. So unless a company says "we will give you 250 million for it." or something I doubt he will sell. Notch does not seem like the person who would let that happen to his game. As for Minecraft 2, I don't think there will ever be a proper sequel but there might be a version 2.0, I just really don't see there being a way to make another minecraft that would be as popular. Likely minecraft will just expand till it dies. Minecraft is akin to the internet like that I suppose. Feel free to keep asking or share your own opinions.
  2. You could always Google for depressing health issues.
  3. That would be nice but people see donations as an occasional flow of money and see ad.fly or adcraft as a steady inflow of cash (though it is more of a trickle). I can maybe see that helping small mods just starting off but big mods could live off donations. I can't remember if I already mentioned it or It was one of the post I didn't actually end up posting but it has been mentioned that ad.fly could lead to misuse like releasing version with bugs so people will return to get the bug-free ones and such. Plus a small amount of people can be huge dickbags and do a ad.fly link to adcraft that links back to the ad.fly link and tell n00bs "oh it is a glitch in the system, just go through it for about 3 minutes." and basically form a hamster wheel of page-views to generate cash.
  4. Hehe, I was just tying to pick the most eye burning color I could think of, though a single color texture pack would make stuff... interesting. I like the name "Techtronic". Just got to avoid any TRON references.
  5. So it is agreed we do the whole pack in neon pink? XD
  6. Opening one door in a double door setup opens both of them if i recall right. Think a pressure pad would also open both doors instead of only one. Really can't remember right now.
  7. I would have to experiment with them but just going by name I would guess that grassfix was to fix problems with the transitional coloring of the grass and that mod_doorfix was to fix the double door problem.
  8. That is unfortunate. Happens with my profile subtext since I change it to match the reason I got the pink. The current, "High Turnaround Rate!" one is because I managed to work off my last Keller quite quickly. XP But like Kakermix said just behave and once someone with power feels you learned your lesson they will cure you. Yep, it is right on the Memberlist page, just gotta mess with the sort by title option.
  9. You do know that NEI has a recipe function right? Just hover over the item/block in the NEI screen and press R, if you need to know how to make an object used for that item/block just hover over the object in question and press R again. That will work in Tekkit and Technic and will cover Minecraft's regular ones as well. As for just a list of Minecraft recipes, well you linked to it and there are a ton of computer and smartphone apps as well as websites to allow you quickly go through them. Now with that out of the way maybe I will try and start this back up again. Anyone have any questions or opinions about anything Minecraft they want to share?
  10. My guess is because the discussion has been interesting and it is a decent alternative to responding to "TMI not working, plz help" post.
  11. I would be willing to help thought I would be more skilled at helping with Phase I thought I might be able to mimic the style on certain lower detail items, I was able to pretty accurately add the spawner egg to my personal copy of Doku high back when it they were only in snapshots (took a bit of tweaking to center it right though). So I would be willing to help in whatever way I can... Well when I am not busy with classwork that is.
  12. So far I have not become addicted but I do find myself tinkering with the gadgets to figure out what they do and how to use them. So sometimes I do think about set-ups I want to try or things that I want to learn. Give it some time and maybe I will be working on late night automation projects.
  13. Software law is infinitely more confusing since unlike most tangible mediums there is only so many different ways to efficiently program something. Also they included that line to keep control on the content. It has to be vague so it is harder to get off on a technicality. If they said "A plugin/tool is anything that interfaces with the main class files directly." then as long as you made a tool within the bounds of the law but that somehow bypassed that system to let you do something nasty Mojang would be unable to shut you down. The clause could be used for evil of course but it is more a preemptive measure to provide Mojang with the legal power to have any dangerous mods removed and control what mods are allowed to do. Best real world example I can think of is the would have the legal power to shut down griefing clients and mods if they got out of hand.
  14. What I get from reading the news update is that all it does is allows 1.2.3 to be installed to and ran from the vanilla directory instead of needing to install into and run out of the .minecraft folder. So now you can play vanilla 1.2.3 from the launcher instead of being stuck on vanilla 1.1.0.
  15. I will let you know if i see anything... or not, don't know what the policy on stuff like that is. I have the suspicion any secret I post will change from "Hey they are going to add this." to "Hey <Mod/Admin name here> is awesome and you should respect them. Also you saw nothing." So if I am singing the praise of Kaker you know something top secret must be going on.
  16. That is true. Some times it can even just be the fanbase of something that attacks someone trying to innovate on a mod. Loyal fans of anything are a bit nuts and will attack stuff until they are told not to in some cases. The main thing I find weird is as long as the other person isn't making a direct copy, why try to kill them off. Mods need competition to keep them innovative, if someone sees a way to improve something and they original modder doesn't want to merge it in or they decide not to work with the modder as long as they didn't steal the code the original modder used people should be getting on them for stealing the idea. The original modder should innovate if needed and make there mod even better instead of having goons kill the other project. Plus like has been mentioned before, most modders don't even know copyright law that well and just figure if you made it then you own it and you will win in court if you sue. Really if the modding community didn't have all the petty drama we could be somewhere. But stuff is constantly fragmenting because this person doesn't like that person and people are using ties with influential people to promote their stuff. It is all just so odd.
  17. Try reinstalling, your lwjgl.dll in the yogsbox is corrupt. If that still doesn't work just snatch a copy from one of the other mods in the Technic pack.
  18. I know right. Some of my best friends are dogs. They have never been to the pound, they volunteer at the local fire station, some are even employed the the local police, and they don't chase cars or their own tail. It is wrong how the media portrays them, say they thing beggin' strips are actual bacon and that all the smaller ones are ritzy and only eat premium wet dog food. Then there are all those news stories about the few bad ones that go an bite a human, then suddenly everyone is scared of them and what then banished from the city, fearing that they might to something to the children. It is just sickening and I find it beyond repulsive that speciest like EpicAppleSauce would perpetuate such stereotypes as they are not responsible, one of my dog friends works 2 jobs in order to give his 5 puppies the future they deserve, now tell me how that is irresponsible.
  19. Oh they might have finally added the yogsbox, I noticed it in the modpacks.xml awhile back and github showed they had been actively testing it. I will have a look at it right now and edit in what I find. Edit: confirmed it is the yogsbox for 1.1, it says it is yogsbox version 1.1.1 when installing... and it appears to be. So umm... AWESOME! Yogbox's modpack.yml dump: launcher: 0.5.4.4 current: 1.1.0 recommended: 1.1.0 latest: 1.1.0 lib-1: commons-io: 2.1 commons-lang3: 3.1 guava: 10.0.1 joda-time: 2.0 slick: 0.3 snakeyaml: 1.9 trove4j: 3.0.1 builds: 1.1.0: libraries: minecraft: 1.1 mods: basemods: yogbox-v1.1.1 armorstand: v1.1 craftguide: v1.4.1 custommobspawner: v1.4 ee2: v1.38.1 floodgate: v1.1 inventorytweaks: v1.38 millenaire: v2.3.1 mocreatures: v3.2.2 pfaeff: v1.1 reisminimap: v3.0_01 shelf: v1.1 thaumcraft: v1.2.5bc3 treecapitator: v1.1 twilightforest: v1.6r2 z-yogbox-configs: v1.1.0
  20. True. I would type more but I seem to end up ranting if I try. I will say I do like the ease of use that the launcher provides, while I could download, install, and config all the files myself it is nice to not have to do that and it does help make modding easier for the technically inept (though you wouldn't like the Technic pack much if you were) and kind of shows how mod instillation could be so you could have multiple modded minecrafts without have to switch jars or use tools like the Minecraft Profile Manager (which only works on windows and maybe wine if you can figure out who to get Mono to function correctly to read all the .net code).
  21. You don't want to do that, the Program Files (x86) folder is for 32-bit programs and the Program Files folder is for 64-bit programs. (This is only if you have a 64-bit OS if you don't you will only have one folder called Program Files and it is for 32-bit then). While it make work it could lead to some problems later as programs that find java there will be expecting the 64-bit version of it and will get the 32-bit. You should uninstall it and reinstall the 64-bit version and if that doesn't resolve the problem Google how to set the path variable or just add the line "C:\Program Files\Java\jre(whatever)\bin\javaw.exe" to a .bat file. You can just wait till it give you problems if you want though, since it seems to be working for you.
  22. People are weird like that. The money and fame from making Minecraft mods seems to highly affect some modder and thus they see modpacks as stealing some of that fame and fortune and donations from the guys that run it as "Here is some payoff so you like me and I don't feel bad." I kinda wonder if modders would be less protective it they didn't expect to make money or become community famous. I personally would have taken the money if I were a modder, but I wouldn't care about making money or getting fame from modding.
  23. Yeah it seems a lot of people have the assumption that the team is a bunch of lazy bums who just steal money from the modders by giving away the mods for free (Some see it as stealing because it cost the user like 8 cents on ad.fly). That is the one bad thing about the modding community, they are a tad touchy with mods because they can actually make (very little) money from them. Also, programming a mod to crash if it detected a modpack, that is actually kind of cool, what mod was it? (I'm just curious.)
  24. That was my first thought when I read this too.
  25. He has to make sure it is a quad slot or at least a dual slot, my single slot only got around ~10fps.
