  1. Good to know. Thanks. The other problem is the community all want different things so a mod to bring them all together would be one heck of a feat. Really once the "light" has died it is very hard to rekindle, some people might get it back after taking a break or trying a new mod. Other will always have that hunger for that feeling of pure wonder and awe as they took their first steps into Minecraft. Heck I still remember messaging my friend "I just made a full set of wooden tools!" I was filled with pure joy over making the 2nd weakest item set in the game. Later I let shared a NOW pack modified version of 1.6.6 with some extra mods for wolves with my sister and she was so happy to have made a marble house and two kennels for the animals she tamed (granted there was much TMI and Single Player Commands usage). She liked her place so much she got furious at me when she was killed in game messing around with spawning sharks. XD Even the friend I gave my play till February 14th humble bundle key to fell in love with the game. The only person who involvement in Minecraft I was connected to that I don't know how they acted when they first got it was they person my friend ended up given an alpha key he had bought for me (it was a last minute sale and i was AFK and he forgot I had been talking to him about it for around a week I think) since I already owned a key. I have met the person but don't know him enough to ask without it possibly sounding creepy, like he owes me for it or something... But I imagine it was the general "Oh wow, awesome." that everyone seems to go through, maybe someday I will get around to knowing him enough to ask about it just out of curiosity. Really Minecraft just had this feeling of joy when you first figured it out that people just want to get back, I managed to prolong mine by being lazy and not learning Redstone sooner so not I can be proud when I make a new machine using one of the many available logic gate configurations. Trying to mix that up with dabbling in map making as well. Really I think the light might depend on what your niche in the Minecraft world is, Engineers get rekindled by things like technic, explores but terrain generation upgrades, social RPers by server updates, graphics lovers by texture packs and shader mods, and fighters by new mobs.
  2. In theory that wouldn't be to hard, most AVs are just programs that scan other programs for known malicious code (like the deltree c:\*.* /y command for DOS, enter that any any batch file on a windows computer and run a virus scanner on it, you AV will go off on it. Only mentioned that one because deltree is a long dead command if memory serves me right) So all one would need to do is program a lua script to read other lua scripts and remove ones that contain known malicious code.
  3. Re: Sugestion! THX <3
  4. it is possible, a virus would not be that hard to make, all it has is a loop of really horrible code. I made two for the command prompt in windows once, one was a loop of text (which was annoying but no big deal) and the other was a loop of launching more command prompts (which turned EVIL and ate up all the computers memory). The point of that is they where both rather simple batch scripts (No, you can not know what they were) and at least one of them had the power to eat up memory. Doing the same in Lua wouldn't be that hard if you know what commands to have it issue on loop to take up the most RAM.

  6. So I was asked a very interesting question by hindos, you see, while I am a relatively new face here I have been with Minecraft since around Alpha 1.2.0_02. I was known as the Minecraft guy in my English 102 class because most my papers studied different aspects of it (may offer for review in Avant Garde at some point). Anyways, the point of that is I see Minecraft as something that can be talked about on an academic level. That is the vision of this topic, to provide a civil discussion of Minecraft and the culture that surrounds it. Please understand. however, that this topic in no way overrides any forum rules just because it is also relevant to the topic. Piracy is a prime example, I believe (Mod edit me if I am wrong) that discussing Notch's stance on it or how it effects the community are okay but discussing how to do it or where to get it is a violation of the rules. In the end it is the mods and admins who decide what can and cannot be discussed even in academic terms and their word, not mine, are final. For education purposes only is not a get out of jail free card. The only additional thing I ask in this topic is that if you are going to argue make it intelligent and civil. If you think MC has been a POS since 1.7.3 tell us why? What makes you feel this way? I will start the debate off by answering hindos question, feel free to provide your on answer to it, to pose other questions, to answer questions that have been posed, or to just speak you mind on something so long as it has to do with Minecraft and is civil. Now onto the question: As a long-time vanilla player why do you think some people say Minecraft is taking a turn for the worst with all the new updates? What was it like before? What was supposed to be so much better about it? As a long time addict player I can get where some people are coming from... While it was before my time, some of them grew up (minecraft wise) in a world of Seecret Fridays and that one Seecret Saturday (instead of the Snapshot Thursdays of today) when they would try to figure out what new wonders Notch had left for them. They Punched their first tree and were like "WOW!", then they built wood tools, then they built a shelter, then found a cave, improved their tools and built a proper house, learned redstone and mob farming (when it was added of course), then they built a castle, dominated the nether, and forged their own world where they where king/queen. Then things got segmented, People like FlowerChild got mad that notch added wolves and not more technical stuff while others loved their new furry companion. Then the end was added and Minecraft had a goal and this segmented players further, some welcomed an overarching goal while other felt it killed the open-ended and infinite spirit of Minecraft. Heck, even the rise of mods segmented players, some feeling most mod BREAK the feel of game other felt they gave it new life. Minecraft, truth be told, has an odd effect on people, it was not just "Notch's precious baby", it is that to all the players. It is our own personal Eden, we have ultimate rule there but only after we had earned it, we decided who could comes into our own personal world, we built it block by block, we mined it of it's resources, we grew it's crops and foliage, we protected it from the likes of the creeper and his undead pals, it is ours! All in all the old players simply suffer from a case of nostalgia, the older game just seemed better to them, not because it was actually better but because everything was new and interesting back then.
  7. Re: How long are you playing Minecraft with Technic? and what made you play Technic? I am starting a topic here that will have the message I sent and McNostalga will let you give the old alphas a whirl. Someone who played technic longer then i have will have to answer that.
  8. Oh internet, there is no such thing as too soon with you is there?
  9. Re: How long are you playing Minecraft with Technic? and what made you play Technic? That was my first modpack too. I have all the copies of it I could get legitimately (I will not say how, it was removed for a reason and the yogsbox is technically the current iteration of it). It was my first introduction to how you could enhance minecraft with multiple mods installed in parallel. Bah! I sound like an old man with all this reminiscing. :P
  10. Plus you also got a lot of people who misunderstand Notch's stance on pirates as being "PIRACY IS A-OK KIDS!" and not the he simply sees pirates as potential customers or people who might lead there friends to buy the game and that services, not DRM, is they way to defeat piracy. Using advances powers of critical thinking I am able to understand he is saying "Piracy is bad, but it is pure evil, better service for legitimate users instead of crippling DRM and legislation is they way to combat it." Sadly most people can not comprehend more them soundbites now a days and read it as "Notch is not against piracy, so I can pirate games." My big question is, why do most younger Minecraft players have this inability to READ? Oh the irony that a game made by a MENSA member (go check his homepage, Notch IS a certified genius) is played by so many idiots.
  11. As far as I know that is impossible as most the tekkit mods are the bukkit ported version of their respective SSP counterparts and well look at the name: Tekkit = Technic (or technology) + Bukkit
  12. And lo' Hindos did sigh long and hard, for on that day a keller posth thus "How doth I play thine pack if thou is not premium in the eyes of Mojang?" And the angels did weep, for written upon the Stone of Rules and Guidelines was thus "Thou shalt not illegally obtainith thine Minecraft but shalt get a job and fork over thy approximately $26.00 USD at time of writing to the house of Mojang." ~Except from the New Book of Technic
  13. Oh yeah... isn't the hourglass the sand village symbol? Not that into Naruto so I not sure. Sorry we keep getting of topic ValkonX11.
  14. If i remember right I think he just got changed to the "probated" avatar, just like Cheap Shot "banned" Kaker when the topic was locked.
  15. I will PM you links to the original... Don't be creepy though I don't personal know the artist. Now back to ValkonX11 awesome tablet skills.
  16. There I made the cliffnote version. I never new they were so evil but it don't surprise me, with 4 million players or so the community for MC is full of people like this. I really do hope that they prove you wrong and somehow make improvements comparable to the existing ones be. Sadly I have learned that most Minecraft projects are fueled by drama. Oh hey kaker... wanna see something funny... here is THEIR version of what happened from their About Us page and there FAQ answer to what makes makes Bukkit different: "You're in good hands Much of the Bukkit team consists of people who were Minecraft users first and then hMod plugin developers giving the Bukkit Project a unique and varying view of what a Minecraft server mod should be providing. Along with experience as developers, many of our Team members, including myself run popular and large Minecraft communities and servers. Furthermore, the core Bukkit Development Team consists of the people who have been maintaining hMod for the past few months. In fact, the birth of the Bukkit Project resulted from a discussion between Dinnerbone and myself about the many changes we were interested in making to hMod which would result in complete breakage of current hMod compatibility. That being said, we have a few months of experience under our belt already maintaining and developing mods (both our own and by other people)." And there FAQ answer for hMod devs thinking about developing for it: "I used to use hMod, what is different with CraftBukkit? hMod was developed with a mindset of "add it as it is needed" which made for some messy and inefficient code. CraftBukkit has been designed focusing on performance and doing things right. As such, CraftBukkit is, essentially, just like the original Minecraft server but made to be extremely extensible and customisable through the use of plugins. " Back up your story as it looks like they had some kind of vendetta against hMod. Sorry for the info overload. At least the Bukkit source is available if it comes to that point Technic could attempt to fork it. Edit: Fixed some incomplete thoughts.
  17. I just said he needed to get off his "lazy pirate arse" and figure it out himself and to read the rules. The I said I omitted some backseat modding prayet thing to call on cheapshot to lock this. I got keller'd for saying "you will be punished" to someone. So I am worried about doing it again. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
  18. Fixed. Sorry lazy pirates really make me mad.
  19. I will have to give your plugin a try. Also I want to thank you for improving the overall quality of this forum with your post.
  20. Can I have some? Please read the rules. Edited for backseat modding.
  21. Re: How long are you playing Minecraft with Technic? and what made you play Technic? I have to head to class and my reply will be rather long. Think I should start some kind of "Ask a long time player" topic here in Open Discussion as not to take up space being off-topic on here?
  22. MOAR DONGS! Nah, in all seriousness it means they hired some of the communities more competent developers and that we should get a good game mod API and maybe a server mod API upgrade. It also means it is not just going to be Jeb and that AI guy who's name i can never recall will not be the only ones working on Minecraft. Truly I hope that this not only brings bukkit's improvements to minecraft but that the bukkit team might also work with other teams like Forge and Spout to improve the Launcher, the Game, and the Server. Hopefully it means the technic crew will have an even easier time making the pack. At worse it mean the complete and utter end of the Technic pack.
  23. Re: How long are you playing Minecraft with Technic? and what made you play Technic? Since about the same time I joined the forums. Learned about it like most everyone, via the Yogscast and wanted to give it a go. I had played modpacks like NOW, YogsBox, and VoxelBox so I decided to give Technic a whirl. Patched Minecraft with Tekkit 1.1.4 then the next day Minecraft updated and I never got around to using the modded version. Finally decided at a later point... Hey I really should try that technic, so I downloaded the launcher and fell it love with the use of modified spout to provide an all-in-one solution with a separate instance of Minecraft like AdventureCraft and ZombieCraft used. I have been toying around a test world to get used to the pack and plan to try a cheat disabled legitimate world when I feel I know enough to not waste resources. I DO still play minecraft, mainly the snapshots (Iron Golems and upside down stairs now) as well as some AC and ZC (both of which I posted fixes for to MCFourms only to learn NO ONE READS!!!). Been Playing minecraft since alpha, I think the first version I played was the one that had the F9 nether portal spawning feature (which I didn't learn of till after the update). I love Minecraft's openness and Technics example of how you can expand and improve upon the base game in a fairly easy manor. Tl;DR: Played since account start date, Found via Yogscast, still play vanilla snapshots, and I'm a raging geek.
  24. They are working on trying to do just that.
  25. I will test and see if i get it as well... Might just be a change in the code is causing it to grab the wrong space as a head on the skin image file.
