  1. Okay... Ignoring the almightyskippy.... You will need a minimum 1G of RAM to run Tekkit smoothly for 1 player with no issues. You can then count on needing at least an additional 150 - 200Mb of RAM per player. Personally if I want things to run smoothly I would run a minimum 4G of RAM for 20 people and probably 5G for 25 people. You can usually run it with that many people with a lot less but you don't have so much room for expansion, and I don't personally like to set limits on what players can and can't do. On a side note... the almightyskippy isn't 100% wrong, You DO need a good processor, the newer and higher clock speed the better, of course comparing server host processor specs can be a bit of a pain given that the good ones will usually be using Dual-Quad Xeons, (2 CPU's x 4 cores on each) But with those anything over 2.3GHz should be fine. (if they say it's 5GHz or more... avoid them like the plauge)
  2. P.S. It occurred to me when I read the email of your message that I completely missed something. The CPU is the most important component of your server, followed by RAM, then internet connection bandwidth. You may want to have a word with your host. because if they refuse to tell you the CPU specs it's most likely a desktop grade CPU like an i3 or a AMD bulldozer, as opposed to a server grade Xeon for example, which may result in stability issues. Unfortunately the only way to test how many players your server can handle is to actually have that many people connected. You may be aware that for every player you have online, you need an additional amount of RAM and that the amount of RAM required is directly proportional to their position in relation to other players. So sure, it's potentially possible you could have 100 players on a server with 2G RAM, but they'd all have to be in the same chunk for it not cause any server lag, of course it will quite likely create FPS lag for most of them and there's a very good chance that your players may not know the difference between low FPS and low TPS.
  3. You know items "inside" a pipe aren't actually counted as entities right?
  4. Ah okay... well the 80slots is probably just what your host limits you to, not what your actually capable of getting without creating some major lag issues. My server has 4G RAM and I limit the slot count to 15 to make sure that everything keeps running smoothly. Much more than that and we start to see some very noticeable TPS drops. How many players do you actually have on at any one time with no lag. Also please note that in the case of Minecraft, the term "lag" includes both latency and TPS.
  5. I can't speak for Akliz, usually if a host is advertised anywhere its because they paid for it, not because the site owners actually recommend them. I would on the other hand highly recommend a VPS service like the one CreeperHost offers, otherwise you will find yourself missing a good deal of the control you have gotten used to. I personally use CreeperHost and have done so for about 3-4months now, to the extent I now actually have two VPS's from them to host both my Tekkit server and Feed the Beast server. They have amazing staff and actually take the time to communicate with the customer. At the moment they are currently looking at running an IRC server specifically to streamline real-time communication. The control panel can install a MySQL server on your VPS for a small one off fee, or you can freely install it yourself. They put no limitations on what you can or cannot have on your VPS. I currently have 1 of my VPS's running Tekkit, my website and my MySQL server. Some pro's: Great Staff, Great Service, No Lagg, Good choice of server locations, Great Control Panel, Good range of options to control your server, (You can connect via FTP, SFTP, SCP, SSH and HTTPS), Useful applications to download so you can see and use your server console on your home PC like you can normally when hosting it at home. Useful API you can use to dynamically update your website, or even create your own Control Panel. Great Backup/Restore service from the control panel, It even allows you to perform Remote Backups to one of their secured off-site servers in case of "catastrophic failure" They are constantly upgrading their control panel and hardware to get better performance. They actually listen to their customers. (I have asked for 3 "new" features, all of which were added to their system within 12hours of the suggestion at no cost.) Some con's: Each VPS is initially limited to 30GB local storage (although you can usually negotiate for more)
  6. You can manage to get 80 players on a Tekkit server with plugins and no lagg and only 3G RAM? Care to share how? What CPU are you using?
  7. I would love this idea, and would love to put something like this on my server, RM and Quantum are seriously overpowered. As such I'm obviously biased towards you releasing it to the public ;-) I would however like to see configurable scalable damage values for a range of user configurable items. With about 3 seconds thought your config might look like this: #Vs Quantum 80:30208:1:Mining Laser 55:27572:*:Red Katar 45:30149:*:Nano Saber #Vs RM/Gem 80:30208:1:Mining Laser 55:27572:*:Red Katar 45:30149:*:Nano Saber The first value would indicate the scalable bonus damage value (perhaps in percentage so that 100 would equal a 1 hit kill, 0 would inflict the same damage the item does without the plugin) the second value is the item id, the third value is the meta data and the last is the item name. I find including item names is very important in configs, because there's no possible way your going to memorize items by their ID's so when you go to edit it later you spend 10mins just looking up all the item ids and what they are. I'd also like to say, don't underestimate the marketing value of: This is our plugin, come here to see it in use the way it was intended. Like it? feel free to download it for yourself. I think you'll find you'll have a large number of users still coming to you for it. (Potentially larger once the plugin becomes more well known.) I'm even quite certain you could potentially make some money out of it. (Not enough to quit your job, but certainly more than you'd get for keeping it to yourself.) Obviously I've only put about 10mins of thought into this, and have no idea how this would turn into code, my programming skills are pretty much limited to printing "Hello World" in about 50 different coding languages, so I won't hold it against you if you choose not to do this or choose to modify the idea and make it your own.
  8. Did you try running Tekkit on a different port? eg: 25566 or 34125 ?
  9. Really? I've been working with Windows and Unix servers for the better part of 15years now, and my windows server have NEVER been as stable or responsive as my Unix ones. (One example I actually used today for something totally different, my Unix web+irc server has been running non-stop with no interruptions or restarts for 2 years now. In contrast my Windows box has to be rebooted practically every other week.)
  10. Ban ownership of the item rather than just the recipe.
  11. More and more people are running their servers from home and home invariably means Windows/Microsoft or Mac. It wasn't till I came home to my parents where my internet isn't good enough (5mb down 1mb up) to host a server.
  12. Then you already have another program/process using that port. Try running MC on port 25566 Or just pick a random one between 25500 and 65000 (My port range might be a little off, it's been a while since I had to worry about what the lower bound and upper bound user defined port ranges are.)
  13. What permissions have you given players for modifyworld? (Since that is essentially a "protection plugin")
  14. Can't players just use the Swiftwolf ring? or Ring of arcana? Also yes, I do believe that the /fly command has been broken for a while now, I've never known it to work in all the time I've played.
  15. I Highly recommend CreeperHost.net They have sites in England, US and Europe. With high quality machines and amazing customer service, (Ie less than 30mins response time 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Often I get responses to my tickets within 5mins.) Coupled with low prices, VPS packages and a very useful control panel, featuring one-click installs for various servers and plugins. (I currently have players from the US and even Australia playing on my server in London with no lag complaints at all.)
  16. Just keep the folder "Players" and "Data" to save players inventories, Alch bags and transmutation table progress.
  17. Not likely it was Win8 itself (I have been running Win8 Pro for the last 3-4months, 2 of which I home hosted my own Tekkit server.) If that's the case though, might be a firewall issue.
  18. Stopping the server is the idea. Once the process is killed and the server is actually stopped, the port should now be closed and you can start the server normally again.
  19. This happens alot on rented servers when you try starting your server process before it's been properly stopped. The fix is pretty simple as MrKekson says: Just kill the java process and try and start again.
  20. Also depending on what other plugins you have you might want to restrict Nuclear Reactors. There are also plenty of Dupes which may or may not break your servers economy if you plan to have one, and can in my experience create lag issues, (players building 100x100 sq HV Solar Arrays when in reality 6 HV solar arrays would work just as well and in reality they would have only had the resources and patience to make 1 or 2.) I'd recommend using TekkitCustomiser and *possibly* TekkitRestrict (I don't personally use TekkitRestrict anymore, I keep trying it and it keeps causing errors of one kind or another for me.) As for Server hosting, I recommend CreeperHost.net low prices, great support, and they give you full access to your VPS giving you maximum control over your server, unlike most other minecraft hosts which only give you web based control and maybe FTP. Another note, make sure you check out the EE Patch which fixes lots of issues with EE items bypassing protections (eg factions or towny) Depending how much money you have you may want to restrict World Anchors, Dimensional Anchors, Teleport teathers and the like as well as DM Pedestals (50+ watches of flowing time, creates lag. Not to mention people using the EMC sugar cane farm which if setup wrong will crash your server in 3 seconds flat.) You may also want to put restrictions on things like Mercurial Eye, Philosphers Stone, Ring of Ignition, Zero Ring, Infernal Armour, Abyss Helm. if you want a complete list of things I've restricted myself see: http://robynsworld-forum.guildsite.net/index.php/topic,6.msg7.html#msg7 (Personally I've made lots of stuff on that list available to players who reach a certain playtime, or have made a reasonable donation.)
  21. Most mods have a .cfg file in /config on the server, although from personal experience I have never managed to get the NEI one to work. Each time the server boots up it seems to wipe the file and re-wirite it from the .jar. As far as allowing players individual permissions to certain mods, I think thats something you'd need to acomplish through the use of a good permissions/ranking + restriction/item banning plugin. Something like TekkitRestrict or TekkitCustomiser should work, or you can try NoItem.
  22. What command are you using to launch the server process?
  23. Ok, chances are you just need to "op" them simply type: /op [buildCraft] /op [industrialCraft] This should only apply if your using plugins like Towny or Factions which protect players land and usually create a "Wilderness" ie: unprotected land These are the "FakePlayers" created by their respective mods. This allows you to give the mod itself permissions to do certain things or not. For example, move or break blocks in a given region. There is another "FakePlayer" [RedPower] but I've never known anyone to need to give it permissions for anything.
  24. Do the quarries work normally with engines on in the same location? are both BuildCraft and IndustrialCraft oped or given the appropriate permissions to break blocks?
  25. Hmmm, The only other thing I can think of, is take your machine out of the DMZ and just forward the ports you need to. - Reason for this is it's possible your machine is getting flooded with packets due to everything going to your IP will be sent to your machine. It's pretty unlikely it will make any difference. But other than that I have no suggestions. Other than to make sure that everyone trying to connect downloads a fresh client.
