galacticraft Is the GalactiCraft rocket ship required to get to space, or can you get there just by going high enough?

Does anyone know if the GalactiCraft rocket ship is required in order to get to space, or can you get there by flying or towering high enough by any means? Because I had a really cool idea for constructing a space elevator with minecarts (and with oxygen- and power-supply tethers), but I don't want to dedicate resources towards it until I know it's actually workable.

Attempting to build upwards will only result in you hitting the build limit at y=256.

So, no, you can't build your way into space.

Just flying upwards won't get you there either (at least, not on creative mode).

The Galacticraft Rocketship acts like a portal to space. It was confirmed in CaptainSparklez/IIJeriichoII's Mianite Season 2 series. Forgot which episode, but it's in there somewhere.

Once I fly into space - the rocket leaves me and I get stuck in space without a way back into the rocket and I cant go anywhere. Any tips for how to stay in the rocket or how to not get stuck in space?
