freakachu Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 as long as it has a real video card and not an integrated one, the answer is probably yes. Quote
BuccaneerRex Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 If it helps, I'm running Tekkit just fine on a 6 year old HP DV8000. Nvidia geforce GO 7400, Centrino Duo @ 1.73 GHZ and 4GB RAM. I can run on Far distance, with a few tweaks to the graphics. I found it extremely helpful to associate an Nvidia settings profile with Java. Quote
Torezu Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 That laptop will run it acceptably, but you won't be able to max out the graphics settings or anything. The video card leaves a little bit to be desired, but it's decent. Quote
BuccaneerRex Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I should mention that I run with the default texturepack. I can't run any sort of higher end resoution pack. No 512x512 photorealism for me. (why anyone wants those is beyond me anyway. I find the default charming, and exactly the way I like it.) Quote
MinecraftNewbie_98 Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Yeah I thought that graphics card would be no where near top end, but better than nothing I guess, as for texture packs I may/may not use default one but probably wont use realistic texture packs. Thanks to all of you for quick replies. Quote
hoho Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 It should run it but far from max settings. The not-so-awesome GPU is integrated in a not-so-awesome CPU. It'll surely be better than your old PC though. Quote
MinecraftNewbie_98 Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 Are there better laptops out there for simular ammount of money? Quote
The Merchant of Menace Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 as long as it has a real video card and not an integrated one, the answer is probably yes. Psh, my laptop doesn't have a video card and it runs Technic acceptably. Quote
Pulse95 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I don't know if yours can take it. Mine can run it barely and it's much better than the one you are getting In all honesty with that computer you are getting you can run 2 Technics at a time. Quote
Captain Scar Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I might be looking into getting the same type but its this can anyone tell me if its good? Quote
Pulse95 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 That computer is good though, I am not a big fan of AMD I'd much rather have an Intel i7, but to be honest you only need about a gig of RAM to run Technic and the video card is not half bad on that. Let's just say you could probably run a game like Day-Z or EvE on that machine. Quote
Captain Scar Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Yeah, I thought so but people keep saying AMD is the best ever graphics card Quote
Pulse95 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I am not very good at these types of things, I just buy the best power eating gaming computers they have and upgrade the memory. Quote
cmwatford Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I hate laptops when it comes to choosing graphics. Even when you get the best thing available as far as mobile graphics go you'll still be screwed in a couple of years. This is why serious gaming on a laptop is considered to be rather silly. Why buy a 'gaming laptop' that in a few years you'll have to abandon if you want to play the latest and greatest when you can buy a decent and upgradeable desktop for roughly the same price? /rant Really did not mean for this to turn into a rant. :S Quote
Pulse95 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 In the near future, graphics for games will hit their limit and we will no longer need to deal with this kind of crap. Besides, I don't really need that good of a computer, I don't play FPS shooters and Hardcore killing games much, I play things like Terraria, SS13, StarFarer, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, Republic at War and Battlestar Galactica Online. The only reason I have a High end PC is to play games like Day-Z, EvE and Diablo 3. Quote
cmwatford Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I tried dwarf fortress once. Had a great time untill i realized I had no idea what I was doing. Quote
Pulse95 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Dwarf fortress is one of the funnest games I have ever played in my life; It's in my top 5. Quote
freakachu Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 In the near future, graphics for games will hit their limit and we will no longer need to deal with this kind of crap. I really doubt that. this is kinda like saying that processor power will hit its limit soon and CPU choice won't be a hassle anymore, or RAM speed will hit its limit soon and we won't have to deal with figuring out what speed of RAM we want to go for in a PC. PC gaming graphics have been steadily improving since pong, and there isn't really any signs that they are going to stop anytime soon. at best you could make the argument that the rate of improvement has slowed due to the current console generation lasting way longer than previous generations. graphics power hitting a limit though? don't hold your breath on that one, I'd say.
