Low FPS on high end PC

I'm running Tekkit Classic on a high end PC (i7 4th Gen, GTX 970M, 8gb ram), but the game will only run at around 4 fps, making it useless. I have tried the most recent vanilla, and it works fine at around 70fps, and I've tried installing optifine onto the tekkit classic pack, but this did not help either.

Any ideas?

Dedicate more RAM to the game in the launcher. Go to Launcher options --> Java/Minecraft --> Up the ram to around 3-4GB (should run most packs fine)

Tell your system to run java processes with your GPU, not with your integrated graphics. Considering you have a GTX, look for 3d options on your NVIDIA control panel.
