Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 So I've recently been informed that my schools party-thing is going to require everyone to dress up, and the theme is Story/Fairy tale. I would like to be atleast a little bit original, since everyone has gotten the bright idea to dress up as Gandalf or Jesus, but still maintain a reasonable budget. My biggest problem is the fact that if I come as anything remotely original, hardly anyone will get it, since the majority of my class seems to be culturally inept 9gag-and Facebook-is-the-whole-internet-ers. Gaming-costumes are probably too far-fetched too... So does anyone have an idea what to dress up as, walking the fine line between unoriginal and urecogniseable? Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Hardly practical, and not from any tale. As I said (wrote?), gaming costumes will probably not work, the perfect costume would be something everyone would recognize, but would be atleast a little bit clever/original. The main reason this is hard is because most people in my school are uncivilized barbarians (non-gamers) :/ Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 ...That would be both game related and offensive... Quote

Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 blah blah blah the theme is Story/Fairy tale blah blah blah Quote
Torezu Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Rasputin from the Anastasia cartoon. Complete with detachable head. Yes, I have 2 small girls. Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 While this makes me want to choke myself, I must say it: not mainstream enough. These are the kind of people that thinks Facebook is a legitimate pasttime -.- Quote
ErusPrime Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 which fairy tales? the real ones or the disney versions where people don't die or get horribly tortured? Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Both. Something everyone knows about, though. Quote
Moderators Munaus Posted December 6, 2012 Moderators Posted December 6, 2012 Dress up as the mermaid :D Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 The mermaid? Also, no. Too bad the water is frozen, otherwize I would go catch a fish and make a kantele out of it's cheek, and go as Väinemöinen :P Quote
Valkon Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Any of the narrators from a Lovecraft work. Put on some normal researcher/archeologist/etc stuff and you're set. Quote
Moderators Munaus Posted December 6, 2012 Moderators Posted December 6, 2012 Death! Man his voice gives me the chills... Quote

penguins2946 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You should go as tinkerbell. I am assuming you are a male, and if I saw one of my guy classmates dressed as tinkerbell, I'd probably piss myself laughing. Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 What's up with girls wanting guys to dress like girls? Because that was the 2nd most common suggestion in my class, after Potter/Jesus/Gandalf Quote
Ozzy Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Go as a pretentious asshole. Just namedrop vainamoinen a ton and call your friends "uncivilised barbarians" and "culturally inept" some more. You'll be the belle of the ball. Quote
Kocken926 Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 It's Finland, everyone knows about Väinämöinen here. uncivilized barbarians (non-gamers) :/ Please take that with a grain of salt. It was meant as a joke. And I can't go as a pretentious asshole, I actually need to pretend to be something I'm not. Quote
penguins2946 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 What's up with girls wanting guys to dress like girls? Because that was the 2nd most common suggestion in my class, after Potter/Jesus/Gandalf damn right, it should be. Quote
freakachu Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 be nyancat. right up their alley from the sounds of it. Quote
Lear85 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Words... Story/Fairy tale... Words. Once upon a time, there was a red engineer named Kocken. He went to a party dressed up as himself, which is valid because he's in this story. And the recursion broke the universe and it was so awesome that everybody died. THE END. Quote
Sacrieur Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 All of the fairy tales I know of are older ones. Pretty much you have knights, princes, kings, commoners, and sometimes elves or trolls (rarely). I vaguely remember reading a story about some tiny little person, but pretty sure it was just a small human. I have to say, for all the fairy tales I've read, I'm at quite a loss here. Unless you want to grab something from Disney. Quote
freakachu Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 be rumplestiltskin, keep asking people to guess your name. being obscure suddenly becomes the entire point of the costume. Quote
