Joefesok Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 [Aperture sciences' history, as well as black mesa's go here] -GLaDOS kills everyone in the facility -Portal 1 takes place -The corpses of the subjects are turned into zombies due to the neurotoxin mutating -L4D(2) takes place -After an unknown amount of time, humanity has been restored (No proof, but it would work well to explain why we don't see zombies. Alternatively, black mesa is isolated from the incident.) -HL1 takes place -7 hour war takes place (game, not actual war) -HL2 takes place -An unknown time in the future, Portal 2 takes place -Planet may be stable, or maybe the second it cut to black chell got eaten by a headcrap.
holymage! Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 and what do you have for evidence?....you know...something you use to prove what you say is right
spartanyanni Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 and what do you have for evidence?....you know...something you use to prove what you say is right Absolutely none. Less than decent speculation, and would cause a paradox should it be implemented.
Teraku Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 L4D2 takes place way before L4D1, just a heads-up. In L4D2 the infection just started, while in L4D it's been going for quite a while. Fun fact: L4D was originally going to be a lot different, until Valve bought Turtle Rock studio. This is the reason why L4D is so much grittier and more polished than L4D2.

Grittier and more polished?
holymage! Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Grittier and more polished? i think he means more gore and more optimized...
miniboxer Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Left 4 Dead doesn't take place in the half life universe. Both Portal and Portal 2 do, however. pretty sure the events of half life 1 occured before portal, as if you have actually played the game, the Black Mesa incident was semi-caused by the companies Black Mesa and Aperture Science both racing to make a way of traveling via portals first. Something worth mentioning is that Portal 2 takes place approximately 20 years in the future from Portal

If it takes place 'way before' L4D1, then why do we have maps like 'the Passing', where characters from both games meetup?
holymage! Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 If it takes place 'way before' L4D1, then why do we have maps like 'the Passing', where characters from both games meetup? ITS A TIME PARADOX!
Teraku Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 If it takes place 'way before' L4D1, then why do we have maps like 'the Passing', where characters from both games meetup? Infection is already going strong in Northern USA while it only just started in the south.

Something worth mentioning is that Portal 2 takes place approximately 20 years in the future from Portal You're probably right in the first point, but Portal 2 happens at least 50 years after Portal, but most likely a lot longer. The computer tells you that at the start( "You have been asleep for: 50 years"), ("You have been asleep for: 999999999...")
miniboxer Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 You're probably right in the first point, but Portal 2 happens at least 50 years after Portal, but most likely a lot longer. The computer tells you that at the start( "You have been asleep for: 50 years"), ("You have been asleep for: 999999999...") actually, it says 50 days, and the second time just keeps saying 9 and then fizzling out before saying the time increment. approximately would have been better replaced with at least in the statement I had made
Lethosos Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Then explain the rampant potato plant growth.
Teraku Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Then explain the rampant potato plant growth. Potato batteries which accidentally spread.
Lethosos Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Potato batteries which accidentally spread. I'm aware of that part, as I've played it. I just mean the time discrepancy.
Teraku Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I'm aware of that part, as I've played it. I just mean the time discrepancy. 50 years is easily enough for rampant potato growth.
nedned2k Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 50 years is easily enough for rampant potato growth. Even twenty years would be enough for what's in the game.
theprolo Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 50 years is easily enough for rampant potato growth. Yeah, but Miniboxer is saying that it's 50 days. I'm sure it said years, not days. Perhaps in this universe, a year means a day.
nedned2k Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Yeah, but Miniboxer is saying that it's 50 days. I'm sure it said years, not days. Perhaps in this universe, a year means a day. Actually, miniboxer is saying it's fifty days and then an indeterminate amount of time, actually, it says 50 days, and the second time just keeps saying 9
Lethosos Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I just remembered something which may be relevant here--didn't the Ratman modify the long sleep system to ensure that Chell would actually survive the enforced shutdown after Portal 1?
Teraku Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I just remembered something which may be relevant here--didn't the Ratman modify the long sleep system to ensure that Chell would actually survive the enforced shutdown after Portal 1? Where did you get that from? It's not mentioned anywhere in the game AFAIK.
GreenWolf13 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Where did you get that from? It's not mentioned anywhere in the game AFAIK. There is more to the lore that what's in the game. Did you ever read the webcomics that valve released (and which are considered cannon)?
GreenWolf13 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 There's webcomics? D: I HAVE MISSED SO MUCH Yes. Yes you have. Also, you can go look at the wikipedia articles on the Half Life/Portal series. They've compiled a summary of basically the entire storyline.
miniboxer Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Another thing worht mentioning: Something that proves that Left 4 Dead has nothing to do with Half Life or Portal, is that Left 4 Dead is a movie. Yes, the plot of the game is that you are controlling the actors in a movie about zombies. I think it is an interesting way to present a zombie game that has a gritty feel yet also absurdly over the top.
