SherryMcG Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I had quite a few sheep housed in a double walled pen 6 blocks high, with a glass ceiling. When I went to dye some of them they had ALL disappeared! How did this happen???
Lothos Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 were they all sheep you led into the pen or bred?
SherryMcG Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 were they all sheep you led into the pen or bred? I had led three in there originally then bred up from there.
Lothos Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 well, spawned sheep can/will despawn, but bred sheep should have remained.
holymage! Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 well, spawned sheep can/will despawn, but bred sheep should have remained. unless you leave the chuck loaded (with a world anchour or something)
V00doocat Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 What pack are you playing ? It's been a while since I used Technic. (I mainly play on servers) but Technic has Mo'creatures mod that has an option in a seperate section of options the name of I can't remember. Something like global mod options or something. Anyway. In those options is a button to allow despawn of vanilla mobs (including sheep). If your playing Technic you may want to check that. Note: Like I said it's been a fair while since I played Technic so my info could well be out of date. Maybe somene can confirm.
racingpro Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Maybe somene can confirm. Confirmed, even up through at least dev build 7.3.6 (last version it was in, I think. Haven't kept up with the newer dev builds). It's a very annoying feature for sure.
Mythril Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 well, spawned sheep can/will despawn, but bred sheep should have remained. They don't despawn, actually. Passive animals never despawn, at the cost of very rarely respawning. The glitch we're talking about is one which causes mobs to reload in random spots. That allows them to get in/through a fence when you reload a chunk. EDIT: Forget what I said, VOOdoocat's correct. Mo' Creatures has an option to despawn vanilla mobs (all of them) enabled by default. Disable that and you should be safe. Although, I'd recommend keeping it enabled until you find new sheep, as that will allow some animals to spawn close to your home.

theprolo Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 It was my understanding that 1.4+ implemented passive mob despawning. I thought passive mob despawning was removed in Beta 1.8, when animal breeding was introduced(so that it would actually work).

Teraku Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 i thought it was when animal breeding came in...which was 1.9PR5 (offically 1.0.0) I'm pretty sure mob despawning was disabled in 1.8.1, but breeding wasn't added until 1.0.
racingpro Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Look here under the 1.8 update section. Animals no longer despawn which makes it possible to capture them.
